@@chevy0771 Exactly what they told me when I asked them. Forged arms can only take the specified ball joints they sell on their website. Tubular arms tho, you can fit other ball joints in them like MOOG.
@@danieldeanda5816 depends on the wheel and tire set up. I had 24x14s and 35s so I was replacing every year and half cause they rough on the suspension but now I’m on stocks and I’m going on 3 years no problems.
Okay so figured id help a few people out so what i figured out is that this balljoint doesnt fit the new style forged ones it fits in the spindle but too small to be pressed in the arm. Only option is to order from rough country
You are correct cause those are not forged upper control arms there tubed upper control arms. But if I’m not mistaking you can look on RC’s website and they’ll tell you the part number in the description but they also come with a year warranty anyways. I found the part number for my tubed upper control arms on a Silverado forum. Sorry for any confusion.
I have a 1999 Sierra. 6in rough country lift stock control arms. I need to replace upper ball joints and Oreilley has moog k6540 as what I need. But I have seen 2 reviews of it snapping and now everyone on here is saying that. What is going should it be fine on stock control arms? I have put the moog k6541 lower ball joints and it’s been great for the past 2 years

Bro, I have a 3.5” suspension lift on my 09 and had a local shop change mine a year ago. He made me go drop $300 on stock upper control arms from a part store and said they’d be fine with the lift. He Kept my RC UCAs. Been having to replace wheel hub assemblies, CVs, and all kinds of front end issues lately. Had 4 of 6 studs snap smooth off my front driver side zooming on the interstate just recently, and luckily had to pull off and take a leak and noticed it. Reckon the stock control arms are what’s been causing all this chaos?
“Cast steel K6540. Cast alum/ Stamped steel K6696 Moog part#'s. If it is a castle nut, you can get them at the local parts store. If it has a nylon lock nut you need to order it from Rough Country”. This is the message they sent me, I tried both ball joints and they would not seat correctly.
Jelani, Not sure why it wouldn't let me reply to the message you sent me. But yes my K6696 fit perfectly but my original ball joint that came with the truck had a castle nut.

FYI I tried the K6540 you are correct they do not fit the RC upper control arm. I then went and tried the Moog K6696 and you are correct they do fit the control arm but they do however do not fit the steering knuckle. Now I don’t know what to do.
I just wanted to add some info to this, about which ball joint to use. If you have a newer 2014 GM 1500 Silverado or Serria. And you have the silver aluminium lower control arm. The Moog K6540 will be to small. You need to buy the Moog K6696 which is slightly larger. At some point they switched to stamped steel upper and lower control arms which use the smaller Moog K6540. Good video but I removed the tire to make it easier.
Ya bud I have a ready lift sst kit in my Silverado and they do have a snap ring. Moog K6540 is the part number that recommended by ready lift and is what I installed. But the boot is not installed and super brutal to put on and have to put on after new ball joint is pressed in. Such garbage.
Im having the same issue, did you have a 6 in lift kit on yours, I have 35s on and If thats the part number I need I'll literally just do that rather than try to find a whole uca because my ball joint is busted and im stressin heavy
If your ball joint is not a lock pin ball joint, than you will have to order your ball joint through Rough Country. I called there customer service line and they were under 1 year warranty. I purchase the moog product first and it did not fit correctly. It all depends on the type of ball joint you have on your rough country control arms. Hope this information helps.
