I Am from Muncy Pa. Work at the Stone Quarry in Montourville. Love it when the train goes by. I joke about jumping on and riding it away. (Knowing its only a short line).. maybe make it to Northumberland Yard on a Friday night lol
This unit was originally built for the Southern Railway so I wouldn’t doubt if it spent time in that area!! Far from home up in Ohio, but it’s got roots from down south.
About the time I start to worry about having perfectly flat and level model railroad track on my layout, I see a video like this and stop worrying about it.
I like sitting at the volleyball place there. I’ve picked up a few detectors east of town there. Also I’ve heard the dispatcher in Weirton WV and down on the ex MGA territory by Waynesburg!
Never have sat over there. Once in a while I will go to that Pet place across from the River Street crossing. Do you know how big Conway Terminal’s territory is?
I know nothing of the train symbols anymore, I used to have them all indexed and then they screwed with em and I can’t keep one from the other anymore. Soon as I memorize them, they change them. Lol
Awesome videos. Once in a while I go to Emsworth and sit at the volleyball building. Occasionally I sit at the pet place in Osborne but I really like sitting at Leetsdale especially at Wendy’s. The only negative with that spot is the radio reception isn’t as good as other locations. But the fact you can see the signals at Leetsdale makes it very good. What’s your favorite spot to railfan at here and out of state?
Around here I definitely like Emsworth purely because of the scenery and how quiet it is compared to Osborne or Leetsdale because you’re further from 65. I also like a lot of the spots along the Wheeling southwest of the city. Out of state, the stuff up near Salamanca NY is pretty beautiful if you’ve ever been. The DGVR in West Virginia is also a favorite, need to get down there again.
@davidcoleman958 I’ve never really been to any of the big Ohio spots, the most Ohio railfanning I’ve done was just over the border from WV and PA and not much more than that
Noticing the two columns of exhaust upon startup, I think this locomotive is the non-turbo. It would still utilize a blower for air transfer through the cylinders...
That’s right, it’s a roots blown non turbo. That’s why it’s got that more thump-thump-thump sound rather than the more whiny sound of a 40 series unit.
The GP38-2's & SD38-2's are the last units from EMD that were naturally aspirated/roots blown. All other EMD units with the 645E3 motors are turbocharged.
