I love board games! I post board game videos and stream regularly on Twitch: full play throughs, Top 10 lists, interviews, and more. You can find me on Good Time Society, Rahdo Runs Through, and all over the interwebs playing and talking about board games. Happy gaming!
Late to the video but the play through convinced me to buy this for my classroom. I had to see a play through first but I knew as soon as I saw this game I wanted it one way or another.
Thanks for the play through. I'll have to try this solo variant. This is honestly one of the best game designs I've played in ages. Short but packed with choices, different avenues to victory, awesome art, and how it all fits so snuggly in such a small box is great. Fab game
A question about the wild flock. If someone yanks them, do they have to be stolen as a flock, or can who stole them break them up to use as other, three of the same flocks?
My June favorite new games are Castellans, Faraway, River valley glassworks, Grand Austria Hotel Let’s Waltz expansion, Azul Summer Pavillion, Let’s go to Japan and Captain Flip. June was a great month for games.
This is an awesome game, glad to see a game a family friend and fellow Voices contributor (Marcus Ross) worked on get more attention!! Great playthrough! Love seeing that you had fun. - G
@@corey3145 I loved The Princess Bride Adventure Book Game. Just like this one, it captured the feel of the story in a light strategy game. After I finish Lord of the Rings, I'll play The Wizard of Oz. 😊 As far as Lord of the Rings, I'll admit I'm not a hardcore fan so I don't play too many games of this theme. But there are supposed to be some good ones out there.
I think you've slightly misunderstood the spawn a walker action (which occurs after you Explore): for example at 09:25 and 10:59 you were supposed to spawn a walker directly next to the location card you placed (if possible), and not add another survivor. Adding a survivor can only happen if it's not possible to place the card so that a walker is spawned at the explored location, in this case place that occupant card in any valid location - if no valid location to add after these options have been looked at then proceed to scoring.
Thanks for this teach/playthrough! One question - at around 11min after you explore, I believe the next occupant card that comes out because of that has to be placed adjacent to a walker side on the recent location - not any side?
All thanks to you that we found out about Trio-- or, well, Nana, the one you introduced to my dad. Great stuff! Love a lot of the other ones here, like World Wonders! - G
I just got this game. I am intimidated because people say the rule book is vague for those that haven't played Gloomhaven before - and I haven't. Thanks for the walkthru.
Thanks so much for the kind words, I was so pleased to see you got to play a copy of my very first game ever! It's so amazing that you enjoyed it so much, thank you so very much for all the kind words. I makes my heart smile that you ranked it above so many amazing games!
Andrew, congrats on a stellar first game! Super excited to share this games with more folks and I hope Wine Cellar gets the attention and love it deserves.
So much fun chatting with you, Ruel! Hope you had the best May the 4th and Revenge of the 5th. What a magical weekend! I felt so much love for Star Wars this past weekend.
I had such a great time chatting all things Star Wars with you, Amanda! Happy to hear you had a fun weekend. Looking forward to hanging out virtually again! :)
I can see a bit of a runaway leader scenario, but there are also some really big single round scoring things like the one that gives points for money so there seem to be SOME chances of coming back. The lack of any hidden scoring makes the endgame super easy, but also can lead to an anticlimactic win that is pretty known a few turns out. Not too bad for a short game like this though.
I have seen the seasons comparison many times and I agree with that in that it has that 'feel' thematically and somewhat in what you are doing. This is SO MUCH more streamlined though. I have had Seasons on my buy list for AGES, but every time I am about to pull the trigger I rewatch a playthrough and just find it too fiddly and feel that would keep it on the shelf. This game has VERY little barrier to entry. I could see playing this with nongamers easily as well. I also really want to bling this thing out with really pretty stones and a holder to underline the 4 stone limit. Want this game so much, it is in the Kohaku level of game that is just super easy to hit the table. Now to get my wife excited about it, because she is the person I would mostly be playing with.
@@RuelGaviola Can't wait to get my hands on this one. Sea Salt & Paper is another small box winner from Pandasaurus (and the upcoming Pixies is yet another).
I love this playthrough! The A.R.T. Project is one the favorites in our household. You did great considering how the game is, in my opinion, EXTREMELY HARDER solo... - G
I've been hoping to try Knarr. Hearing so many good things. Strike has become a great filler game for us - something we can pick up, go a few rounds, bring in non-gamers and knock out the game. Captain Flip is another one that I've enjoyed playing quite a bit. Thanks for sharing, Ruel!
Thanks for the nice gameplay video. I really like this game. I play this on BGA solo, controling two players (hotseat). It's a simple game with simple and quick turns, so it's really easy to play for two players at the same time. Sort of really interesting experience, trying my best in two different ways at the same time and seeing which strategy and tactics combination wins me 40 points first.
I’ve only played this on BGA but do enjoy it. I enjoy the tension of when to add another card vs when to break up a nice Viking engine for one of the top cards. This is an interesting solo mode. I like how it isn’t just a beat your score variant and keeps the “race” nature of the game. I wonder if it might add something to it if, instead of counting rounds up, you set a limit of rounds before the game adjusting for difficulty and count down each round to race against the clock.
You're right -- the race element is still there in the solo game. I still haven't beaten 13 rounds so it looks like I'll have to play a few more times. :) Thanks for watching!
