Hey when you took your inlet manifold off did you remove the fuel lines first? I’m having trouble getting the last nut in the bottom corner. Also idk how you got the nuts off for the egr exhaust pipe. That’s footage I would pay for. I had to chop mine
I used a special tool to remove the fuel line nuts, same one as pictured on this link. www.supercheapauto.co.nz/p/toolpro-toolpro-spanner-set---3-8-drive-crows-foot-flare-nut-13-piece-metric/591843.html#start=42 . Egr on exhaust side I brought a cheap socket and cut it down for one of the bolts and used a strong bar. The bottom bolt was the challenge, top one was fine and loosened straight away.
@@4AGEEDGarage I’m having a hard time getting that last nut holding the inlet manifold on. It’s right next to the oil filter, the very far bottom right nut. I had to remove the fuel lines first. I hit it with some pb blaster. Hoping it comes off. Not much clearance. Im kinda screwed if I don’t get this manifold off because the EGR is stuck between the firewall and manifold. Everyone’s videos made it look pretty chill. But the hilux surf has no clearance for any of this job. It’s been rough
@@N8_10 have you removed your oil filter to give you more room? Mine was straight forward and they all came off reasonably easy. Might need to use a strong bar to help crack it without doing damage. Must be very frustrating it hasn't been straight forward.
@@4AGEEDGarage I did remove the oil filter. I used a small 6 inch ratchet and threw my whole body into it. I finally got the Manifold off and now everything is ready to clean. Technically it was pretty straight forward. But the surf just felt like it wasn’t meant to do an egr block without lifting the engine.
Haha learn as you go. I did research first and read about a person using the celica loom at the ae86 ones are super expensive. Originally I was just make a manual switch to go up and down and then have the separate light switch. My car is registered as a Trueno but had levin front and wiring 🤷♂️
Hi, are you talking about the sump/oil pan? I scrubbed it out by hand with a brush with degreaser, then flushed out with brake cleaner to remove the residue. Engine block was acid dipped when machine work was done. Hope that helps
Did you end up getting the thing? If so how? I’m watching the video and I got my breaker bar but I have 0 clearance to do shit. The egr exhaust pipe is in the the way for a regular ratchet. I’m pretty hard stuck here
Welcome, no downsides at all or any error codes. I was expecting an engine light or something to appear, but nothing. All vacuum lines and electrical plug still connected to egr valve. Performance is better now without the exhaust gases going through the head and ports clean.
@@4AGEEDGarage Great to hear, I’ll be doing an intake cleaning on my Surf sometime in the next few weeks and I’m also planning on installing an EGR blanking plate. I have a ‘98 JDM Surf that was imported here to the States, so I’m sure it’s way overdue for some intake maintenance!
Sure is finished, I had a mad rush to get car ready to make it to Toyota Festival, also have shifted towns and haven't had time to complete my build videos 👌
@@4AGEEDGarage Ahh no, well it looked like it came out really nice from the Photos he took, I told him they would’ve looked even better if the rolla gt was parked next to it 🤣 but still looked really good, weather definitely made it more dramatic. 👌
@@calcium1_639yeah it would have been nice with both cars parked up. Trueno has come out really good. Just need to build my 4ag turbo engine for it now and find a good condition Altezza 6 speed gearbox. He asked if I could take him to his school ball and asked to take some photos before we went which I didn't mind. Was pretty cool weather although the editing enhanced it quite a bit.
@@4AGEEDGarage Best of luck finding that box. Pretty sure some other cars used the same gearbox design from other manufacturers if that helps a bit. Can’t wait to see it in person at some point.
@@calcium1_639 Yeah they do, s15 Silvia and have heard GT86 are similar gearbox. I need specifically 3sge altezza box as already have adapter plate for the 3s bell housing to work with 4age. You will see the car one day no doubt
Haha yeah it is, paranoid of breaking things, although I did find a few things that never had a bolt in the which I put a new one in to eliminate any future rattles. Video a bit overdue but will out the next few out soon to keep up to date
hi bro, can the cylinder head be installed on a 4ac engine block? because both are the same A series engines with the same engine block, soo will it fit?
Hey. I got a Glazier to come in and cut them out. They are glue in like the front windscreen. Previous someone had masked up to the windows and paint was flaking away from the edge
hey man, did you removed the butterflies in the throttle body as well? i did blocked the EGR both ends today and just reading some forums saying it will have to remove the butterflies if not it will restrict air flow? how is your engine going so far? any issue after blocking them?
Hey mate. I cleaned the main intake manifold throttle body only, but not the egr valve butterfly as it on the otherside of the blanking plate, no gases flow through egr valve since being blocked off. My Surf runs great and not one issue since blocking it off.
Hey, thanks. I'm using a rust neutralizer/converter and a cavity wax from a company called Wurth. Many companies sell a similar product, we just use this at work and find it good. Another good rust neutralizer is called Brunox which comes in a orange spray can.
@4AGEEDGarage I'm in the middle of a 4age 20v blacktop swap myself atm just found your vid today. I'm using all the loom and everything out of the levin wiring wouldn't be my strongest
@@MrDavid2124 awesome you will love it when finished. Yes wiring wasn't my strongest either hence why my wiring video isn't too clear what to do as it also took a long time. There is a mr2 page with has photos of all the blacktop loom plugs which helps alot when trying to join the two looms, I also used ae86 20v swap forum pages to help as is more common to find information although the engine is rwd setup, it is similar.
Hey So those two bolts on the exhaust manifold I got the top one, but the bottom is stripped and afraid I’ll snap it if I go any farther with a wrench extractor bit. So if I just disconnect the egr pipe from the intake manifold side where it runs into the egr itself 2 bolts there and block that side, will I have back pressure issues? Like higher egt’s as well? Since exhaust gas will still be able to move through the egr pipe before the manifold intake? Thanks from America 🇺🇸 great video.
@@SamFixesThings thanks for the message. No good about your stripped bolt. Unsure if it will disrupt flow if the exhaust side isn't removed. In my mind I think there would be some disruption but I'm no expert. The injector pump sorted itself out by itself for me, had to wind it over for a bit before the diesel reached the injectors.
@@usmanyounis2401 all good man, looking forward to getting this car back together. Just bolted the sunroof panel back in this evening actually, went in good.
Wicked, you will have a blast. Yeah it's pretty good weekend and cruisy, good atmosphere. Unfortunately not heading to this one as trying to get my other car done otherwise would be there too
Thanks Phil, enjoy sharing the progress and what involved that most people don't see. All the hard work paying off now that paint is going on the panels. Looking forward to having it on the road again
Looks great, the lines on the white/black transition is mint ! What paint did you use for both ? I plan to do the same to restore mine. Thank you for sharing your 86 to the world :)
Thanks mate for the comment. Very please with how it came out. Looking forward to getting the other panels done now and putting on my 15x8 wheels that usually are on it.
hey man nice video its helping me tons. Having a problem getting the injector fuel lines removed to get that last intake manifold bolt on back bottom. did you take the injector fuel lines out then remove the manifold or take out the manifold then the lines? Because the lines block me getting that last bolt out easy. its been a task thats for sure. thanks!
Excellent work mate. I am doing the same to my sunroof area. Quick question.. What is the brand/part number of that mastic tape you are using? and what sort of width and thickness is it? also, did you put the same thickness around the inner sunroof panel (bolts to the roof) as you did on the sunroof rail?
Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the late reply. I'm unsure of the brand of mastic sealer, it was a canopy seal we had at work that I used. Was about 10mm round by memory and I moulded it to shape. I haven't fitted it to the car yet, but yes will be the same thickness around inner sunroof panel that bolts to the roof.
@@4AGEEDGarage No problem at all mate - no need to apologise. How did you remove the nylon tracks from the opening mechanism. I want to clean mine but I cant seem to remove them. Some do appear corroded though...not sure how that can be repaired?
@@usmanyounis2401 the only thing I did was drill out the little fastener things that connect both sides to the center so I could blast the rusty center section. Other than that I flushed the side rails out with brake cleaner as it evaporates and lubed it up with a dry lube like they use on bike chains so it's not sticky and oily.
Thanks. I haven't had it dyno'd, but the fun track days I have been too it has definitely pulled well against other cars of similar power. Very happy with how it performs
I see that you made sure the valve was closed on every intake that you cleaned. But won't the leftover soot and crud still be able to fall into the cylinder when starting the engine?
Was flushed right out multiple times with brake cleaner after scraping, wiping the ports. Any possible crud would be minimal, if any, and no difference to the rest of the crud the engine has sucked through from the egr in the past.
