Glad it is helpful! For your information, I also have a number of Top 10 Trail videos on my channel. So, depending on where you plan to travel I have lists for the best places to MTB in: Moab, Sedona and British Columbia. And, I am always working on more. Thanks for watching!
Well then you are a lucky guy to have so many fabulous, scenic trails to ride…and also only a short drive to Moab for even more trails! Thanks for watching!
Rode it for my 2nd time two weeks ago. Both times counterclockwise. You make it look easy. It's definitely a blue with black features. Love the views on this as well as Mary's.
Yes, it's definitely a winner! And, by the way, I am about to release a Top 10 MTB trail list for the Fruita/Grand Junction region. And while it is skewed a little to the expert level trails, it also has a number of the better intermediate trails as well. Thanks for watching!
Yes, always a good time! That was my second time riding it. The climb all the way up is always a challenge for me, since I live at sea level and climbing to 1,500m is always a struggle. Thanks for watching!
Hey Ron! We are getting our Van towed to Smithers! We might be stranded there for a few days/weeks so we might have a chance to ride this one! Yay? Anyway, how did. you get to the top? Did you shuttle it? Do you know of anyone in town that offers shuttles?
Bummer about your van...hope it's not a big repair bill! As for the Backdoor trail, I had my girlfriend shuttle me to the top at the ski hill and then she drove to the parking lot at the bottom of the trail to meet me there. Meanwhile, she did a brief trail run up and back the same trail so she had something to do - while she waited for me. The trail is a legit black if you ride all the features, so it wouldn't have been suitable for her to ride it anyway. I talked to the gang at the McBike Shop about a shuttle and they advised that they didn't know of anyone but you could investigate there again - they were very helpful with trail advice. If you also happen to ride in nearby Terrace, make sure you ride the Shangri-La and Downtube trails - they were fabulous! Thanks for watching, and good luck with your van!
Great video! I live in the mountains of Colorado and I can’t get enough of those Vegas trails when we’re there. I’m gonna ride this one on our next visit. Best wishes.
Thanks for the compliment! This trail is probably the most flowy trail I’ve ridden in Vegas. But you’ve got some pretty great trails in Colorado too! Thanks for watching!
Great overview and resources, Ron. We were in Sedona in the spring and used your vids as guides for trail selection. Worked out great for us. This list is exactly what I need for my wife for next time. Thanks for providing all the info! -Rob
Thanks for the compliment… and for harder trails, I also have a Top 10 list for Sedona that includes black and double black trails! Thanks for watching!
Rode all these trails except for three. For most part had a blast! Would like to revisit a few of these sometime, but since discovering Moab, not really sure we'll get back to Sedona. We found that Sedona is more like a wine and cheese party with some MTB fun, but Moab is more coffee and an absolute MTB paradise, with a bit of pizza, steak, and wine of course.😄
I travel between Sedona and Moab…but also put Hurricane on your list! All fabulous places to ride and each have their own uniqueness! As for Moab, check out my Top 10…you will find a wider range of trails at all skill levels! And thanks for watching!!
just arrived in Sedona last night, will be using your videos to plan a route. Thanks for posting, these trails look like a great warm up before hitting some harder ones.
Perfect timing! Should be an awesome trip! But also, FYI, I have a Top 10 MTB list for all the Sedona trails, that include black and double black levels: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SgTmj5Gd_dI.htmlsi=8iTCuO-AFuXbeJdr
This vid really helped me out. Perfect for me. Medium runs are my game. All the other vids I watched were non-stop teeth rattling chunk. This seemed much more palatable for my riding. I'm a desert rider. Thanks!
I've ridden a number of these trails during my one trip to Sedona, and I really enjoyed them! You are right, Sedona is a special place! Thanks for putting together the list! I really appreciate you highlighting good intermediate trails, for those of us who don't want to tackle the black diamond trails!
Thanks for the compliment! That's a hard trail for sure...but I like the janky challenge of it all. The climb was brutal, so it's not for everyone. Thanks for watching!
Just did Frisby 2 weeks ago. Awesome. Hardly any bugs as well. Unfortunately clipped a pedal on a rock on way down. Revy ER very good - a few stiches to the elbow
Bummer about the elbow…I’ve done that to each elbow! But not on Frisby…fortunately cause it’s such an awesome rip! I didn’t experience many bugs either but I rode it in late August. Thanks for watching!!
I didn't have time to ride it this trip. Maybe next summer...I rode it about 5 years ago and remember it as a pretty steep, chutey, ledgy trail...but I suspect they have upgraded it since. I also rode Keystone and Martha Creek in previous trips...Revy is awesome! Thanks for watching!
Superb episode, Ron. The more descriptive and informative regarding the trails you ride, the better. I watch your videos to help inform me where I should go to ride. Thank you!
Thanks so much for the compliment and encouragement! I never know how much to talk on my videos...sometimes I get to rambling and later decide to edit some of it out. But I always want to provide helpful tips to riders who decide to try these trails - and comparable trails elsewhere to also ride. Now is the perfect time to be planning an October trip to Sedona!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the kind words Ron, glad you like the trail and new features, lots of work to be done in the coming years so come back and ride again. Enjoyed the vid 👍
Thanks for the compliment! It’s easy to recommend such a well designed, built and maintained trail! I will definitely come back and ride again! And thanks for watching!
Topp Notch is fun but not even close to the best trail in the area, let alone Alberta. Check out Prospector and Dog Daze near Exshaw (the latter of which is not on Trailforks but is easy to find off Prospector), or Razors Edge.
Not sure about the A-frame but Ned’s has been significantly refurbished from a few years ago. They’ve made significant maintenance to a number of trails on Mount Seymour. It’s a great place to ride! Thanks for watching!
@@ronsanderson99 NP's Ron. By the way I may have passed you on the highway😀 as I was going to Banff from Salmon Arm. I say this because you put out a video about Revelstoke just after you were in Banff. I actually don't know if you put out videos just after you actually ride them. Just thought it was an interesting coincidence that gelled with my travels. Have a good one Ron and love your videos!
@@thatisartnotpffft6368 I rode Revelstoke after riding in Banff, so we may have passed on the highway. And it seems like I need to spend more time in Banff so I will probably return next summer. The riding is so fabulous! Thanks for watching!
@@ronsanderson99 I'd spend 2 to 3 weeks here in Banff in summer, but head to SW USA for most part. Some suggestions when you are in the Canmore, Banff, Kananaskis areas next time: -Quaite Creek/Prairie View/Stoney Trail/Jewel Pass loop, but get your navigation all figured out forsure. Green and Blue mostly but fun! -Highline Trail, and Nordic Centre I mentioned before. -Bragg Creek area: I haven't done Jumping Pound Ridge trails, but will because they seem very interesting and out of the trees I think. These are black diamond runs though, so they say. Enjoy and ride safe Ron!
I have done the southern trails at PW several times but never this northern section. Was debating stopping in there on the way through and you convinced me to ride these trails. Look fun. THanks!
Thanks for the compliment! I cant comment on the e-bike friendliness of the trails but you can probably find out by looking the trails up on Trailforks. Most of these trails are more cross-country type trails which don’t really involve big climbs. Thanks for watching!!
Anna and I are on a very similar road trip just a few months behind you! We are in Homer, AK now, but we also passed through Whitehorse and rode Wolverine! What a dope trail!
@DustyTrailsMTB yes, Wolverine was awesome…wish I could have spent a few more days there. And I need to return to do a bigger trip through Alaska…I love the wild!
Another great video, thanks! Looks like an interesting place to ride. How do you find all of these areas you are showing? I don't know anything about riding it that central area of BC. It doesn't get the attention of areas like Revelstoke, Nelson, and Kimberley, but it looks like it's got great riding. Makes me want to do a trip to the interior of BC!
The interior is well worth a trip…there are so many great riding areas. I found the Burns Lake/Smithers/Terrece MTB trails from a number of videos by Nate Hills. BC tourism had given the towns along Highway 16 some money to market their tourism, and they hired Nate to do some MTB videos. They also created a website for a whole tourism initiative. I also follow lots of others who post videos and make note of great trails to ride…I’ve got a “bucket list” of over 400 trails to ride all over western North America. So to ride them all, I’ve got my work cut out for me! I also use recommendations from Trailforks and advice from my ride buddies who have also ventured afar to ride trails. If you are interested, you can find a number of videos on my RU-vid channel with Top 10 ride lists for some of the best destinations. I love riding in Revelstoke and the Nelson region for outstanding alpine trails. Thanks for watching!!
I would also add that if you make the effort to drive to the Burns Lake/Smithers etc region of BC, then you've also got to put Prince George and Valemont on the list - they also have many fabulous trails to ride! So ride along Highway 16 from Valemount to Terrace and make it a big, awesome trip! There are still so many great trails I didn't get around to ride in each of these towns that I might do a return trip for next summer!
From Vancouver it was about 6,000 miles, including a few short diversions to sight see along the way. Total drive time roughly 100 hours. The road north of Meziadin Junction all the way into Alaska and until you get back to Central BC and deteriorates to an average speed of 70-80 kmph.
South Central AK has some good riding, mainly on the Kenai, but even Anchorage is building more trials. Hope to see you get deeper in if you make it up again, I’m 3 hrs from Tok outside of Valdez…cheers!
Thanks for the compliment! This was an awesome trip...even though it was exhaustingly long and tiring I'm already thinking of a return trip to visit Alaska more extensively! Thanks for watching!
I used to ride that trail at least twenty times a year during the 1990's for about ten straight years. The sound of riding on the decompose granite is unlike anywhere else. From watching this video, some changes have occurred, but so much is the same. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Tom! Nice to hear from you...still riding? No, I am back home right now....just completed a big trip to Alaska so will be releasing MTB videos from this trip soon. I have had the Whiskey Trails on my list for a while to ride, but haven't made it out that way...a little off the beaten track. I would probably want to pair that region with an intent to return and ride Oakridge again...how is the forest fire situation in your area? But I am also planning another trip, probably to Colorado in late September. Too many plans and so little time...
@@ronsanderson99 that's sounds like a really cool adventure. I am still riding and my boy is really into it again. We just got back from Whistler and had some good fun. The whole family rodea and we took lessons.
@@tomaskranites6861 That’s so awesome! Glad to hear you are still riding! Even better to ride with your boy. I am riding with my daughter and her guy when I get a chance…it’s so awesome to share these trails with family!
Great Video! (Well, I've really appreciated all of yours! They've guided me to some incredible riding over the last few years!) We seem to be riding in the same age bracket. :) A question: I'm travelling from North Bay, ON(Aug25), through to Los Angeles(sept 3). I'll have potentially 4 days of riding. Last year, you helped me with Hiline and the Hogs in Sedona and all the trails around Phoenix. My dilemma is what trails to hit (solo) from Denver to St. George, given that limited time and energy. Capt. Ahab looks awesome but BIG (too big??). I haven't ridden Fruita/Grand Junction in 10 yrs....., Gooseberry in 6 years..... Any advice?
Thanks for the compliment and glad to be helpful! If you can ride Hogs and Hiline then you’ve got to ride Captain Ahab in Moab. I would also ride Porcupine Rim in Moab. In Fruita/GJ you should ride the Ribbon in GJ if you can arrange a shuttle. Ride Zippity Do Dah and Hawkeye in Fruita they are two very different trails. In Hurricane my Fav’s are South Rim and Zen in St. George. That will likely be more than 4 days of riding but there you go. You might also watch my Golden Triangle video which covers these regions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4wx7EDI5W_8.htmlsi=vCKVcLq-_xsbOj6c
@@ronsanderson99 Thanks Ron. So many good trails! I guess it'll all depend on how I feel with the long drive to get past Denver. Might B line to Moab, rest and hit the Captain, then on to Hurricane. Thanks for the video suggestion, I don't think I've seen it.
I used to live in North Van. I rode in that area every now and then on a trail that I called Lumpy Gravy. Someone told me it was called that but I think it was this trail. That has to be 15 years ago now.
