This is our first year having sheep. We had one have twins and one died. The mother would not take the other one. We have him in the house as it’s 20% outside. We have been feeding him about every two to four hours and we did start with the colostrum. Any more advice you can give me.
Sometimes the mothers reject them. Sometimes, the mothers die giving birth or after. And sometimes they have more than two and they don't have enough milk for more.
A couple of things you could try. Change the nipple you're using. Make sure the bottle is cleaned of old milk. If these don't work, consider tubing her.
if you cut your nipples lengthwise they will not leak as much because they will close until the Lambs nurse. still get a little loss but not a steady stream.
There is a few things wrong here. Number one if they're 4 or 5 days old and eating 6 times a day they should be on about 4 or 5 ounces a day. A hungry lamb is a healthy lamb.
We have been raising lambs for 20 years. 4 or 5 ounces a day is NOT healthy, nor nearly enough for them. The proof is in the pudding. Look at these lambs and you tell me if they're healthy or not.
