Wow...RU-vid is a true time machine! I remember watching this video back in the 80s numerous times on VHS prior to sailing on the tropicale in 1987. Last time I saw this video was in 1987, and nearly 37 years later, here it is again, watching again for the 1st time.
I took the original Celebration in 2019 during it's late run stint with BPCL. I had to. I love cruise ships so much. I've been going since I was 10 and my first was the Fantasy. This was back in 04.
I saw her in the port of San Juan in December ‘91. I was on my first cruise on the Star Princess. She turned heads back then and I was lucky enough to sail on her sister, Majesty of the Seas, in 1995. I miss the old days of cruising!
I worked 3 ships for Carnival (1993)as a musician! It was the greatest job I ever had! They are all great people that were very good to Me! I have since invested in Carnival stocks and have really enjoyed seeing the company continue to grow through its people building and with job promotions from within!
Traveled on all the Sovereign class ships and the Legend and Grandeur at their beginning and the quality of the product then was first class food service and entertainment was excellent.RCCI started to fall away with the arrival of the Radience Class and then the Voyager class is when Royal Caribbean went into the floating resorts and lost their individual cruising experience.The ships got bigger and bigger and changed their customer base .The ports now are overcrowded and these modern experiences are not relaxing.
I was so happy to find this video! The Grandeur of the Seas was my very first cruise-back in May of 1998. It was my Honeymoon, and I booked an Owner’s Suite (the DaVinci Suite #8502), situated one door away from the Captain’s wheelhouse. It was an absolutely amazing room with first class butler service, and the ship was top of the line at the time. I am amazed-but not entirely surprised-that it is still in service today! I’ve been on many incredible and massive Royal Caribbean ships since then, but would love to take one more cruise on this amazing vessel!

No, I don't think the original Mardi Gras had any balcony accommodations. Though the Festivale had a small amount. Balconies became popular in 90s and have been ever since!
She is ready for the scrap yard .. She is in really rough shape these days.. our bathroom was piss soaked from a million drunk dudes pissing in it since the 90s 🤣🤣🤣 I think that ship has its own species of norovirus also ...
Actually Sin Princess was the original Love Boat followed by Island Princess then Pacific Princess! I had the fortune to sail on both Island and Pacific Princess!
I sailed on her when she was Royal Viking Sky for a trip to no where out of New York in the mid 80's That Sunday we sailing down the Long Island Sound, surrounded by all the Weekend pleasure craft. when a cigarette type speed boat thought it be fun to cross the ship's wake, On one pass the boat did a backflip . Of course the ship stopped to help, but there was so many boats around they rescued the driver of the speed boat. The ship itself was beautiful!
Amazing how high the standard of service and food and entertainment was on those RC Ships I was lucky enough to have travel on them even up to the voyager class ships just once , the beginning of the massive ships and the massive changes in standards .
An insightful video of 1990s CUNARD. They have progressed even further so well since. The brand has been enhanced. My favorite cruise line. Their safety at sea is legendry. They are the 'real thing'. They invented ocean travel.
This was fascinating. My impression was ‘May we drain your wallet Sir? Voyage with us, nip back on Concorde to have your Bentley waiting to whisk you to one of many Châteaux??’ Cunard in this time was uber expensive and an indulgence of the well-heeled. Unfortunately this model was never going to see the company survive so it had to evolve to meet more egalitarian tastes. Thankfully it has. It still has that certain something, but the elitism has disappeared thankfully. Now the company thrives as it needs to do. Whilst QE2 and Caronia were nice ships, they were both well past their prime by 1999 when this was filmed. I remember seeing QE2 really close up in port one time around then and she looked really tired. I have sailed with Cunard and will do a transatlantic soon on Queen Mary 2. We loved our previous experience and are looking forward to the next. Cunard is not as ‘stuffy’ as portrayed here…
While the ships look beautiful, I think it is way too fancy for my taste. My husband and I thought about doing a transatlantic on Cunard, then did some research on the line. It isn't our style, but I am sure it is wonderful for others.
I hope you didn’t base your decision on this 25 year old video. We sailed on Queen Elizabeth recently and will sail on Queen Mary 2 later this year. It was fantastic and not like this older video portrays. Cunard has moved with the times….
@@OrnumCR No, not on this video. It was a couple years ago we were looking so we watched a few videos and read some opinions and made our decision from that.

True. This ship was actually known as the Vistafjord for most of her life though. She also had a luxury sister in the Cunard fleet for many years called the Sagafjord.
I was on this ship in 1986...i was 7 years old...i had an amazing time, and i just got off a carnival cruise back to the Mexican rivera 2 weeks ago....love crusing and love carnival ❤
