I went to a small college in Northern NM in 1990-1993 (NMHU). 1 year Langston was on the football schedule and they brought the band. From about a mile away all you could hear were the base drums …wum wum…tikatikatikatikatikatika wum wum…. And then we had our lil ole 50 piece marching band. Langston band and halftime show was amazing.

As a non usa, i dont mean any disrespect when im asking this question; i thought that segregation was abolished in the 60s, do they have all white kids schools too? Or all Asian kids school as well? I am just curious and hope i didint offend no one with my question.
It's a HBCU, that's why it's mainly black people. Since black people weren't allowed in other colleges in the segregated times, we had our own colleges. It's not segregated anymore, but I guess it just stuck because of the culture, etc. Other races can go to HBCU's if they want to lol.
As an American, I do not blame you Canadians and Germans for being confused. I'm 67, and all my life, I've been aware that white Americans like myself, simply cannot move the way black Americans can. What you see, the dancing, the band formations at half-time on the football fields-----the majority-black high schools and college bands are incredible. The majority-white schools do a good job, but the show is nothing like the performances by the black schools. This "funk train" is a celebration with alumni groups from each fraternity and sorority dancing down the line. It's impressive, but the big show will be the current students' band and majorettes at the Homecoming football game's half-time, later in the day or week-end. It will be outstanding, I feel sure.
