The whole course is on-demand, so I took a bit here, bit there etc. There were also some sections I felt I was already confident in thanks to reading the book. It does take some time if you are starting from scratch, but I highly recommend it if you are in the ITAM world!
I think it was the best chance to just touch on types of VDI I.e. persistent and non persistent infra and the complexity that comes with it. But, I understand that could be had been too much for this video😊
Because of this merger I got impacted, I have cleared all my pre screening and technical interviews with Flexera and existing to waiting for all HR round. I got an email from HR saying this position is on slight hold due to merger and they are reassessing staffing needs and organizational structure during this integration period.
Every SAM analyst must understand software compliance and software licensing. With 10 years in this space, I also push software deployments via sccm daily while sitting in multi million dollar microsoft licensing negotiations with microsoft and our resellers/vendors. Understand the difference between perpetual and subscriptions. How do VDI or O365 effect your licenses. The industry is expecting certified CSAM analysts to do more with less and if you want that six figure paycheck (I make 120k/yr) you HAVE to be on your toes and even pay for certs on your own dime.
I would first go and meet the Director of FP&A to understand what does Finance declare as an asset vs a device? Once I know what the assets are I’d evaluate how can I inventory those assets? Physical inventory? CI Discovery? Does the inventory tools have this data? If not ServiceNow or a lower cost option like SysAid should be purchased. Keep in mind if there is no change ticket process sitting on top of the assets, you will chase your tail
Thanks Iain! To be honest, a lot of companies still do monthly audits with both the scanners, then a spot check on the serial number to confirm what is being scanned is actually the correct Asset. I tell clients that, depending on the size of your HAM stock, to aim for a 10-25% manual audit rate each month. Easier to hit the high number if you have a small stockroom!
