This is a great video, not just to show us the incredible scenery and operations, but also some explanations of operations and staging and a glimpse behind the curtain for electronics. It shows the teamwork that is required for a very successful and popular layout. My thanks to David Parks and his memory, his wife's memory, and to all the hard working and dedicated crew.

Although the layout might not mean much or seem impressive to most people, this layout and the store were an important part of my early years in the hobby. I ran just about every kit-bashed and scratch-built model I made here from when I first started out until a few weeks before the store closed and moved to the new location. Most of what I needed to do the work was bought at Just Trains, and inspiration was found around every corner inside. While I’m glad that Wes is keeping things going at the new store, I am sad to see old place close. It was a special part of my growing up that I will always remember. One of these days I’ll edit a video together of my various trips to run on the layout, showing how my models have improved over the years.

When the layout was remodeled to have the back loop moved out into the store instead of running through the stock area, Bill Shaefer, Ken Dado and I (Jim Rohrbach) helped to fine tune the rough track work and make sense of the wiring. All the while, the scenery was being created and installed. Now, as Wes said, it was all for naught since the store had to move from its original location to another near Buchanan Field. It was a great place to run trains and buy some stuff every now and then. I'm looking forward to making the trip to the new location soon. See you then, Wes!

Very impressive and handsome ac4400cw model, Scaletrains truly produces excellent locomotive and rolling stock models and this has to be the best/ most accurate model of an ac4400 available in ho scale outside of any brass type models. The ac4400 was/ is a very common and popular freight locomotive and this Scaletrains model is spectacular by the view of detail features accuracy.

This was my hometown store growing up back when Joan owned it. Very sad the layout had to be torn down, she would let teenage me come and run on the layout when I wanted something a little more than my 4x8 in the garage. Great history on Kermit's structures, Wes. Glad a new location was secured for the store.

Grew up here in Danville, still living here. Remember as a young boy riding my bike down to the tracks to watch the train run through town near the old lumber yard before the line was abandoned in 1978. I could hear it approaching downtown from our home near Podva Rd. Such good childhood memories.

Glad to see Just Trains carrying the flag for Kermit Pauls' amazing creations! Long ways from Bay Area so can't drop in, but thankfully you've given us a glimpse here.

It was nice to see that layout in the times that I visited. It is sad that the layout will be no more, but it is nice to see this video of what it was. That said, I never knew the deep history and the involvement of Kermit. Having been a member of the SMRHS I knew of the things that Kermit had done for them, but was not aware of what he did for Just Trains. It is nice to hear that Just Trains is working to preserve the legacy of his work. Lastly, I visited a few months ago, and the news was grim. I am very glad to hear that you found a new location and that Just Trains will live on. When I get the chance to come across the bridge, I will make it a proagative to stop by and give them some more business.

What you missed to mention was how crisp the letter markings are (in some videos you've made a closeup to those details, it's great!). Then check the weight. When you light the grills from behind, we could appreciate all of them, even those further down! Nevertheless quite impressive. Full of details; maybe some weathering and thats it👍🏼 The horn sound ~ hmm Thanks for the review 🤙🏻👍🏼👍🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I found a pint can (must be 30 years old) of Rustoleum rusty metal primer that works great for old rust. Plus I use it for airbrushing my ore cars and boxcars. I have to thin it to shoot it through my airbrush but it goes on quite nicely. I've never heard of Owl Mountain. Where do you get the kits? I still use women's eye shadow makeup I get for $1.00 at the dollar store and it sticks better than any chalk or weathering powders you could ever hope to use. And it comes in every color under the sun. A whole lot cheaper than weathering powders. I've built a couple of Tichy Train Group flatcars and I painted each board on the deck a different shade of brown to grey mixing the colors in a plastic communion cup as I went along. Came out really realistic. Before I weathered the deck I used my razor saw to gouge the deck and added wood grain to the boards. Then I highlight it with dry brushing a light grey & finally add the weathering makeup. Cheers from eastern TN

I've just recently discovered Red Caboose HO scale rolling stock along with Silver Streak and McKean models. They all have just about as much detail as a Kadee piece of rolling stock. Only difference is Kadee has coupler cut levers. Cheers from eastern TN
@w.rustylane5650
@w.rustylane5650 6 дней назад
I also use Kadee draft boxes and have surgically removed several molded on coupler boxes. I also like to drill a hole through the center and tap it for a 2-56 screw and after the coupler is mounted I always put a drop of CA next to the screw head and bottom of the draft box to keep the screw from ever backing out. Then I paint it black. I usually through out the sheet metal screw to hold on the trucks and drill and tap the bolsters for 2-56 screws. Grey is .10 and red is .15. I use tire weights in either 1/2 oz or 1/4 oz I get from Harbor Freight.

@w.rustylane5650 6 дней назад
You just gotta love the old craftsman's kits! I always use Walthers Proto 2000 metal wheel sets with metal axles & body mounted Kadee couplers. I always toss out the plastic grabs and use Tichy metal grab irons. I also use Tichy bronze phosphor .20 wire for the train line. So far all the Tichy models use the wire train line. After it's painted, you'll never know it was wire. Plastruct glue works well for me. I have a quart can of MEK and believe me, it does NOT work on styrene for gluing.
@tsgmultimedia
@tsgmultimedia 5 дней назад
Your MEK must be defective because it's considered by many to be the absolute best for working with styrene. I'd try a different canister if what you have doesn't work. Either that, or what you're working with is not styrene.

I've just recently discovered Red Caboose HO scale products. They are as detailed as a Kadee piece of rolling stock just without the coupler cut levers which I don't mind. I've had to re-glue the coupler cut levers on both of my Kadee boxcars. I've also discovered that they produced a lot of kits which I'm interested in building. I've got a McKean kit on the way as they are quite detailed as well with separately applied grab irons and good brake detail on the underneath. I've just completed 3 Tichy Train Group kits, 2 ore cars, a 40' 50 ton flatcar and a 40' 50 ton wooden side gondola. I'm presently working on a single sheathed, outside braced boxcar from Tichy & it's proving to be difficult. I broke some small parts trying to cut them off the sprue but they go underneath so maybe no one will notice. I'm looking forward to building the McKean kit and will eventually build a Red Caboose kit and a Silver Streak kit for the Central of Georgia Railroad. Since I used to live in Jonesboro, GA, I model the Central of Georgia Railroad and just about have to build all my rolling stock from kits since it's quite difficult to find RTR stock from the early 1900's. Cheers from an ex-Georgian in eastern TN

I had the opportunity to attend an op-session at Dave's in 2011, and yes Leo was in charge of staging then. I got to see Dave again at the Orlando convention. This is a fantastic operation layout with many unique features. The artistry of the backdrop paintings and other electronics. For example, there's a car scale simulation by Boulder Electronics the creates a job to weigh cars for a train to determine the amount of locomotive power needed. How many layouts do that? Great job to Leo, Dave, and all involved.

Definitely Roseville. You can see the green arch for Vernon Street above the far right UP engine. Better question than where is when??? Looks like either the Reno Fun Train going home or a private owner special and I haven't seen either one of those in many years.
