As a Ford technician, I'll say that I think they knew exactly what they were doing on these motors when they didn't put any keyways on the timing components and it's not because they are being "cheap". Personally I think they were trying to make the job more difficult (even impossible in some cases) for a diy or independent mechanic to perform these basic jobs keeping the money in the dealerships. Doesn't bother me too much since it's job security for me but I certainly understand why it is frustrating for guys like you and would probably piss me off as well if I was in your shoes.
I’ve been struggling with getting the bike started after new carburetor install. I’m pretty sure I have my gasket properly installed, so I’m gonna have to play with a larger jet. In NE Ohio so probably about same elevation. Gonna have to play around some now, thanks for the video.
Elevation is not a concern here in NE Ohio neighbor. How to start the engine is not often talked about. Right or wrong here's what I do. One pull choked, then turn the choke off. Open the throttle to about 1/8 and pull. The second it starts quickly let go of the throttle. This is the same process I used to kick start my dirt bike. But I didn't have to let go of the throttle because the bike is in neutral. That had a VM36 Mikuni with no idle screw.
@@taddy656 I did this a couple months ago on a stock 196 and it worked well. Ran the best with a 120 main. You wouldn't want to use a stock 196 muffler. Get a header and muffler for it. I wasn't concerned about the internal governor running less than 5K RPM. I would pull it if I knew I was going to turn more than 6K RPM just to be safe.
Hey, how about the VM 22 knock offs that say Miki on it? Are those do those worth the same as this one. Also one more important question where do I get the Jets for it as far as the pilot goes I have jets for it, but I cannot find pilot jets for this carburetor. I looked all over Amazon everywhere and I can’t find it.
Funny thing about these governor videos. The good ones don't get very many views, but the ones done by guys who don't know what they are doing get 10's of thousands of views.
Just a quick thanks and great job taking time to explain for those of us that do our own or help others out, as is my case. I was surprised Acura made it a bit easier than most as I've had the dash out on some. Real pain. Thanks again man!
So its been a year i was wondering if you tried to use that valve seat cutter again? And if so how did it go? I was going to buy one and try to make a 31mm in to a 32mm. That kit is $64 on Amazon now and its the only one thats not over 300$ for a 32mm.
Excellent explanation of the air leaks!!!! Had a few guys tell me these exact carbs where cheap shit.... Yet my son's small Baja 196 rips with it. Your explanation of the jet sizing is gonna be a life saver!!! Cause I've been getting bogging at about half throttle. I'll swap the standard jet for a larger one. I'll report back once done
I'm about to do a first carb change. I'm going with the cheap Amazon one to replace the stock one on my Chinese bike. It's interesting to see all the details of possible problems when setting up.
I meant metal cooling fan. Just came in. Wonder if I should even put it on? Also just plug that low oil indicator hole with something like a bolt righ. Sry for all the questions first time messing w a small engine since last month. Sry for hard times in sales but hopefully you can start taking in RU-vid revenue brother that Philly accent gives us confidence lol
@@dirty7739 oh yeah didn’t realize until I opened it but it is. Was only 30 bucks. I rly want to get the stronger billet rod but 100 bucks seems high for one part in a motor that’s 100 bucks. Hopefully it doesn’t blow out the stock but I won’t rev too hard. Just need it to go 35-40 mph on a 15 min backroad to my plant back and forth
Damn I noticed my bike shuts off when I go around a turn quick. Guessing I have to actually delete the governor. Just about to install one of these knock off mikuni carbs as well and your vids are extremely helpful. I thought the governor bypass method would work and it runs fast but running into issues so guess I need to get it over with lol. You have a great voice for describing what’s going on and thorough unlike most vids. Keep up the good work subd
@@dirty7739 nice thanks! Probably going to go ahead and do a full delete right now just to make sure the new carb does its best. I’ve done a Briggs recently so should be fine though I left one little part of the governor in there somehow and blew up that engine lol. I have a cast metal fly wheel and some heavier valve springs being delivered today. Not sure if that’s needed but was only 30 bucks. I’ll let you know how she does
If you need choke to keep it idling a 130 main jet isn't going to help. Look for a vacuum leak like he said in the video. The main jet doesn't do anything below half throttle.
@@Deucealive75 I had a host of self inflicted errors, vacuum leak was one of them lol. I’m new to all of this so your input is definitely a huge help! Thank you!
Damn dude its been a minute i feel the same seem like we all got hit wit a fuzz or something gotta get back out there 💪🏼💯💨💨💨 sorry to hear about your ol lady pain sucks
So I lined up the seal as best I could. It does not line up as center as yours does for some reason idk. 🤷🏼♂️ gotta get her warmed up to operating temp and see if it’s still a vacuum leak. I’m convinced this carb just takes in to much air and that’s what’s causing my exhaust deceleration pop or backfire. Idk 🤷🏼♂️
Dude I got the same carb, it intakes to much air for the 196cc. I ran it on choke and my bike ran flawless without backfiring out the exhaust. Soon as I turn off the choke I get backfire out the exhaust from to much air. I’m in Michigan so I had to down my pilot jet. I might have to bump to a 30 though cause now I’m to lean as well. Rich or lean I still had backfire. I’m gonna check to see if it’s a vacuum leak
I’m at 4500 feet elevation and mine bogs real bad I tried a lot of things like adjusting the needle clip and it’s will start and idle fine but bogs what would you recommend I do ? It’s a Vader 125cc
Awesome!! Saved this video because I am going to need all the help I can get. I had accidentally offset one of my rockers and now the bike will not start. Full-blown newbie here lol. I appreciate your brother.
Good to see you man, missed your videos and humor! I was showing my nephew your Philly riding videos the other night while we were at dinner. Can't wait to see more build / update videos.
it is easy to find main jets ,but pilot jets are a different story . my only complaint about the vm22 clones ,is the pilot jets are a different styles and hard to find . i have 2 carbs both super rich at idle i have ordered jet kits online 2 times and the jets won`t fit
