Welcome to Sow and Tare! We are in USDA planting zone 9b in California; we grow as much food as we can on our 7,000 sqft city lot. We have quail, chickens, rabbits, edible landscaping garden, over 40 fruit trees, and preserve food via dehydrating, canning, and freezing. I am always teaching people wherever I go and whatever I'm doing, so this was a natural progression for me to share information with more people. The name "Sow and Tare" was on my mind for about a year before I started this RU-vid channel. "Sow" means to plant--for most people this is to plant seeds to grow, but it can also be used to start something in motion. You can sow a seed, sow a thought, or sow an action. "Tare" means to reset from where you are measuring from--for most people this means to put a container on a scale and make it so the container weight reads zero and is not calculated in the weight of whatever you are weighing. This could also mean to take measure only of the stuff you want--the good stuff.
Sea Grapes have high C as well. Pecans are a great tree to grow, as well as. If you can grow hazel nuts and walnuts, then you should be able to grow pecans.
Hands down one of the best channels I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Just binged a dozen or so vids of yours..... I became a subscriber, what is the Katrina's Kits? What all is that, a subscription? Thanks, love your channel <3 Edit: omg I live in Grants Pass!!! That's pretty cool you are pretty local to my area.
Awww, thank you, and welcome to the channel. "Katrina's Kits" is a membership (and was named by a viewer as a play- on words, as a kit is what baby rabbits are called). We get together monthly over a Live Chat open to members only to cook something. You should see a "join" button under each video. This month we are actually doing two back-to-back days and making bear claws! I'm glad you are enjoying the channel.
Katrina-Natural disasters are hard to understand and relate to. I know people in Florida. I just saw a video from one of them showing how they were trying to get their things up high. They will be leaving the area before the hurricane hits. We here on the West Coast have fires to contend with (as you know) and we live in the Ring of Fire. We are overdue for a large earthquake and Tsunami. Very scary things. What you were speaking about is very important! I live in a town in the Portland area right now, but hope to soon move to a farm/homestead soon. I want to garden and learn that kind of stuff. My friend and roommate knows a lot of that kind of stuff, thank goodness! Take care and God Bless.
Katrina, I agree. People need to take the book knowledge and turn it into wisdom. The difference between knowledge and wisdom is the experience of practice. and practice makes perfect.
If those strawberries have yellow flowers, then they are mock strawberries, and are tasteless. I know this, as there are lots of them in my area. But their leaves are still good. Now that you have done the trees and bushes, wonder what other goodies you have, that grow wild. Blessings.
Those tiny crabapples are a great source of pectin. YOU do have a food forest. I am so happy. here is a link of what I found about hackberries. www.google.com/search?q=is+hackberry+edible&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS990US990&oq=&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCQgAECMYJxjqAjIJCAAQIxgnGOoCMgkIARAjGCcY6gIyCQgCECMYJxjqAjIJCAMQIxgnGOoCMgkIBBAjGCcY6gIyCQgFECMYJxjqAjIJCAYQIxgnGOoCMgYIBxBFGEDSAQ0yNjY5NzQ2MDJqMGo3qAIHsAIB&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#cobssid=s
The eggs in the nests crack me up. Those clouds of bugs I have seen here and I found out what mine were. You could go to the outer edge and get close enough to see what kind of bugs they are. I think you would love a trail camera to see who is eating all those apples.
Absolutely, my chickens have too many choices... I have security cameras and have not put up my one trail camera yet. I want to get a bunch more to put up further from the house too.
I had a thought, idea that you might like as it could maybe remove that wood beam for the netting under the rabbit cages... my thought is tentioned cable wire in its place... all around, like a trampoline base and tighten the netting up enough to keep it so they can't hit the rabbit cage bottom... Just an off the cuff idea... cheers :)
Mama is on guard all the time and chases the other adults away. This gives the chicks a safe place to go. If you don't do this around the food (chick food is higher in protein), the adults will go after the food instead of their layer food and trample them. Another thing you can do is to separate them completely.
You’re a great teacher and this info was pretty dern useful! (I will confess 🙋♂️horrible gardener here.😂) We have the microclimate/deep valley near water growing area.
Maple isn't the only tree you can get syrup from. Try it, you just might like it. you are really blessed with beautiful sunsets and sunrises. See you tonight.
Yes, We want more adventures. They are important to learn your land. Also important to learn what nature has given you to eat. Blessings. I really enjoyed this video.
I knew you said you had a lot of nest boxes, but seeing is believing! The girls probably have option paralysis😊 what a beautiful rabbit area! Why do they shed butt chunks? Normal or abnormal?
Rexi is the only one laying, as the other two are molting...she hasn't chosen her favorite box yet. Rabbits shed a few times a year and it can look dramatic, sometimes it's in chunks just like dogs with thick fur.
