Hey everyone! I'm Nate. I started this journey in 2016 in a self-built Honda Element camper. Since then, I've upgraded campers (a few times), traveled across North America, and met some amazing people along the way. I have been inspired to live my dream life and I hope to inspire others to get out there and live free!
I'm very passionate about minimalism and affordably living a nomadic lifestyle. In addition to travel videos, this channel features camper conversions and off grid living in the high desert. I invite you to follow along as I learn and explore this beautiful continent from coast to coast.

not to be offensive guys, but what's the point to going to the desert and continue living like grid folks? it does not make any sense. I would rather start braking in the soil and start planting crops, or herding animals.....
Oh the struggles of cooling your rig. Yeah, the roof RV units? A waste. For mine, I built a whole van around a portable AC unit. Epic fail. Lousy at cooling. I have gone your route since then. A $150-200 box unit does a great job. Using my gas gen.
I just hope you charged both batteries at the same voltage level, if not the lower one got a 1000 amper charge from the other one, they balanceing in paralel, and if there is a different chargeing state that can couse problems.
Your video is so far the closest idea that I had in my head. One difference is because I hate taking a table apart, I am thinking of mounting a fold-down table on bottom of bed. Thanks!
pull-down UV shades on the exterior windows are also great. they allow light but not heat to pass through. this prevents the heat from the sun from entering the home. drawing the shades on the inside of the home blocks light, but the heat still enters through the windows and hits the curtains. stopping the heat before it enters the home is a game-changer.
you need to switch your solar pannels ....if you cover the roof completly it will be much cooler inside and you should be able to get more than 450w just use house pannels 1,8m to 1m will give you 450w if you fit 2 and get 900 you can leave ac on all day ... than just add batteries and set a timer for ac to switch on every like 2h
If you have a well you may be able to blow cool air off of the cold well water by running it through a radiator and then dump it back into water supply if your casement is large enough for a return dump off.
I have a Chevy Silverado single cap with an 8' bed. Been thinking about making a shell that can double as a camper but I was going to use aluminum tubes for the frame.
On the hottest time of the year, for us this is october/november, drive a fence picket into the ground in full sun. The hottest time of the day, around 2-3pm, look at the shadow line. This is the direction of your dwelling. That way the sun stays overhead and not on external walls except for the western end late afternoon, which is where you plant a tree!!! Great vid
Here in Lakeland Fl. (Central Florida) I’m learning and enjoying your content and builds! If you ever need or want a place to plug in and stay. I have two camper parking and hook ups at my house, you would be welcome to use. Reach out anytime.
as a thought, you could add a full width hutch extending over the cab of the truck. make the front angled to decrease wind resistance and get storage for the surf board
@@ElementLife They make them so well that it’s hard to not just keep using the old bird even even new ones come out. Nice work dude. You run a good channel.
A Swamp Cooler humidifies the air in dry climates. An A/C works in the Humid Climates. A Swamp Cooler would be a great investment for you as long as you had water to run it. Nice Homestead. I see you still have the Honda Element... I watched your video's years ago. A tall guy like yourself in a Honda Element was interesting! Congratulations on the Homestead! Swamp Coolers!!! You need Swamp Coolers! (Waves)
Fans are crucial to surviving in a van. I have several fans and use cross ventilation as well. I use a combination of 12v, usb, and battery operated fans. I agree. Insulation is crucial to staying cool. I use a DC to DC. charger to charge my house battery. So I park in the shade which helps a lot.
Warning -Off grid Inverters These off grid inverters are Ip20 not Ip68 ABB uno on grid inverters is ip68 Last 6 rs working fine. ES5000 off grid inverters are Not dust protected Must be installed 50mm away from the wall With flysreen netting enclosure with Aluminum or wooden frame Does not compatible with our environment in Sri Lanka. It is humid and if not, that's protected without an dust proof enclosure. And if you cannot look after them well in a proper environment don't go for it and being f***** twice with error number two(heat) and Sri Lanka. We don't have reliable service personnel with whom you have to deal believe with of whatever they say so but they avoid of offgrid inverters at all. If you need as a backup, not for 24 hours. Use in a Dusty humid environment. This is my warning because I am being f***** twice now. Finally for having a off grid inverter during power cuts time,I have paid a fortune.
Hold up! You got another Element? Way cool! I saw a bunch of your earlier vids and was sad to see you got rid of it. So now I come across this vid, was confused at first. Hopefully you are keeping this one!
Mate, 38c is fine. Absolutely fine here in the hot dry areas of EU. IF you are not high humidity. 😅 We had years with 48C and extreme humidity. We are now moving into lower temperatures, so we are going into cooler years. Despite what the “experts” say. Go figure, ay?!
To touch on the window ac... for the price, NOTHING compares. The only drawback is having to need a literal window to place it in. Otherwise it genuinely the most efficient and powerful A/C on the market for off grid (400-600sqft or less). It's literally a mini minisplit. Im almost afraid of people know how efficient these window a/c units are because then the price will go up lol
What happens when someone outside closes your tailgate with you inside? Can you partially open your door and open the tailgate to get out of your Camper? Or is there some other hidden escape hatch?
Hi . I live in Central Florida and know all about the heat and humidity . Here's a tip for everybody . Sleep nude . Just throw a sheet over you . I've slept like this most of my 70 years . And the women like it too ! Nighty - nite ! 😊
