Same here! I’ve never worn a bad pair of Hoka shoes. I do use trekking poles, it seems to help with the load. As for the bug netting, do you mean like a head net?
Beautiful country! Again, thank you for all the detail you put into your videos: the beauty as well as what is involved in this hike. Glad to see you’re not hiking alone. You all did it!!! Yay!! 👍
Finally getting time to look at your video on hiking venture. Excellent video--describing each item. Appreciate your pointing out positive and negative aspects. Happy Hiking!!
My best summer sleeping bag is an Ozark Trail bag from Walmart. I found it in a thrift store for $5 and bought it because I only wanted the compression sack and was going to toss the bag in one of those donation bins, but when I got it home is when I realized it was brand new and shockingly good quality. It's even US made somewhere in Louisiana. So I kept it and it's been great.
The grayle is a water purifie, sawyer is a filter. Have put many many miles on mystery ranch bridger. Great start. And put your chapstick in your hip belt pocket.
Nice video bro. I had that same head lamp. I used it for years but it stopped charging. Now I have a sofirn and wuben light. Those to brands are very good and affordable. Just in case you run into the same problem. Cool pack they are expensive way out of my price range. I'm a budget backpacker.
Thank you! I will check those out. I want to do a budget video at some point in the future, so if you have any other ideas, please comment in my post in my community tab on ideas. Thanks for watching!
Mystery Ranch is the brains behind the old Dana Design Packs in the nineties. Awesome packs and ones I logged hundreds of miles. It will serve you well.
I am still in the process of upgrading my gear. I have a 40l Gregory pack, big Agnes sleeping pad, Kelty 20 degree down sleeping bag (never cold, even in freezing temps), kelty 1man trail tent, cheapo amazing stove, but it works fantastic and it’s only a bit bigger that a small fuel canister. When we backpack when ita warm enough and I don’t have to bring my under-quilt, then I have a cheapo hammock with a cheapo rain fly but they are both pretty light and work great.
Darn Tough socks are the best and so is their warranty! Our troop goes to Trail Days in Damascus Virginia every year and the people at the Darn Tough booth will literally take the nasty socks of your feet and will replace them!
So interesting! I don’t even camp, and now I want to go get a hammock and go into the deepest parts of the woods and get on a hammock and enjoy the outdoors! 😆
Great video and info for beginners! The one thing I have to say though is that mosquitos will still bite you through the hammock (unless you use an under quilt). We use the cocoon style bug nets.
Double layer hammocks and underquilt protectors tend to bypass that. I just treat mine with permethrin like I do my hiking clothes so I rarely even need a net.
Hello everyone! Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe! If you want me to make a video about a particular thing, please let me know, I would love to hear from you all!
Welcome to Shavano Outdoors! I have been moving the past month and have not been able to make any videos! Thanks fore your patience, I have many great videos planned!
As briefly mentioned, please be careful to those who take this advice and know little about foraging. There is a nearly identical plant called death camas. It doesn’t smell like onion, but damn it looks like it. For an inexperienced person, this will kill you. Please do your research before eating or cooking. Stay safe y’all!
