I'm thinking the silcone will leach into the water and the birds will drink from it. I know there is silicone made for fish tanks they are probably safer for the birds to drink from.

This is so really cool if you have all that money to put into making this! I looked the prices of these terracotta pots, and the big one is $145.00, the smaller one's are around $75.00, and you can get the regular smallest one's for about $10.- $12.00. The pump is around $20. And the hose is about $8.00. You may as well purchase one that is already set up by the time you pay out the money to make one like this. $270.- $300.00.
These pots are anywhere between $125.00 - $225.00 just for one. You are looking at around $400.00 - $600.00 in just making your own. You may as well buy one or "2" outright for that much money!!!
