3:01 Atheists cannot be their own gods. That would require them to believe that they are gods, which means believing in at least one god, which is theism, not atheism. Also, science makes no comment about the existence of the gods. There are plenty of good scientists across all religions. The difference is none of them make the silly claims about reality that you do.
@lhvinny
@lhvinny 7 месяцев назад
1:02 sunrises are caused by the rotation of the earth. Stars are constructed by gravity. Neither require a god. No scientist has attempted to say they make the sunrise or that they have made a star. Again, your assertion that we are taking God's place is false. You are just falsely attributing a god to phenomena that don't need one.

0:36 No scientific study anywhere suggests or concludes that a god must be real, yet alone your god specifically. Science itself seems to not help theism either, as the percent of theists among scientists, especially the hard sciences, is drastically less than that of the general population. A reasonable prediction is that if science promotes theism, theism would be as prevelent, if not more so, among scientists, not less. We have a direct observation that contadicts your claim.

Completely contrary to what many would have one believe, Halloween is _not_ a holiday that has close ties to the ancient past, nor does it have some ‘pagan’ antecedent, nor is it a continuation of several ancient pre-Christian customs. The truth is, to say Halloween’s connections to ancient Samhain, or anything “ancient” for that matter, are, at best, extremely tenuous, would be grossly overstating the facts. A direct connection between Halloween and Samhain has never been proven. Least of all with any legitimate satisfactory evidence to back the claim. When we celebrate Halloween, we are definitely participating in a tradition with historical roots. But those roots are firmly situated in the medieval Christian past, not an ancient pagan one.

I think Christianity is merely a hobby for many people. 🤷🏻‍♀️
@endofthematterministries300
I would agree. I have heard people use terms such as church social clubs. We are to be a light all the time, inside and outside the church.

I heard this message. I used to be a theologically progressive Christian. Then 2020 hit & a bunch of people started acting crazy. So when Lent 2021 arrived, I started studying the Bible. For the first time, I discovered the truth of the Bible as the word of God (not just men) & of who Christ is. I was discerning about Catholicism for about a year and ultimately discerned against it. But I have not managed to find a new church home in the several months since. There seems to be a lot of profound error everywhere. But I'm sure there must be a Biblically sound Church that isn't focused on seeker sensitivity and feel good Christianity somewhere in the greater Portland Oregon area. So you have encouraged me to continue looking more earnestly.

your church is ridiculous, and depends on ignorance and fear. As for your god mentioning the sabbath, funny how you guys don't obey it and kill those who dare to work during it as your supposed god commands. Too inconveinent for you?

It would be good to see a chapter and verse for when the Sabbath was changed to Sunday, but that really wasn't what this video was about. The pastors I mentioned in the video saying that their churches showed a post-pandemic decline were from Sunday churches. God bless.

@@endofthematterministries300 it was changed by the Catholic church about 325 AD due to Emperor Constatine outlawing Christians observing the Torah. And the Catholic church wanting to include sun god worshipers in the area who of coarse worshiped on Sunday morning.

If you don’t believe that God can give that man life… so as to believe… then why did you say “I prayed for the man” at the end of your video? What can God do? Here is the problem, we tend to “believe” testimonies of men over God. Leighton actually believes what Derek Webb was saying… that Mr. Webb wants to believe, but is just sitting around waiting for God to show up. But of course, Mr. Webb is lying. He is caught up in sin and loves his sin. The last thing he wants is for God to show up. He is dead in sin… has rejected God… and his only hope is that the God who is obviously there and who gives him physical life every day will give him Spiritual life. That is why you prayed for Him. You prayed to God because you know and I know that God is his only hope.
@kellyneumann2489
@kellyneumann2489 2 года назад
I do believe God can give him life. I believe Mr. Webb is in rebellion to God, and instead of submitting to him, he uses Calvinism as an excuse not to humble himself. I believe that was the point Mr. Flowers was making. Using this framework for understanding the Bible is dangerous, an excuse not to respond to his call.
@bradburns9346
@bradburns9346 2 года назад
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? (Rom. 9:20) Adam blamed God for his sin too. (Gen. 3:12) If this person really wanted to be saved he would be by either theology's doctrine. We will always make an excuse or find someone to blame. (James 1:13)
@andys3035
@andys3035 2 года назад
I think the point is Calvinism led him away from faith rather than to it. The system itself leads to atheism because of its coldness literally teaching some are made for heaven, some, if not most, for hell. That idea is an affront to the God of scripture.
@brentonstanfield5198
@brentonstanfield5198 2 года назад
@@andys3035 - Underlying all of Calvinism is the understanding that God gives to man everything that we have. Far from being cold… any warmth, any light, any goodness that we have comes from God. To those who understand it, it has the exact opposite result… it produces a profound gratefulness to God and a realization that we need Him. If we are going to do anything good at all… it must be God who works through us.

@@brentonstanfield5198 The point being though, there is no decision to be made, God either chose Mr. Webb or not. In this theology he will have an irresistible call or not. I agree that Salvation comes from God alone, but I don't ignore that he saves those who put their faith in him.

@@kellyneumann2489 - There is a choice to be made, but our choices depend on God. Here is how Jesus describes how choices work: Luke 6:43-45: For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Our choices depend upon what is in our heart. Either the Spirit is there or the things of this world. We know what is in Mr. Webb’s heart by the choices he makes. We can know what kind of tree he is by the words he speaks. That is why we should pray for him… pray for him as Paul prayed for the Ephesians: Ephesians 3:14-21: For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory HE MAY GRANT YOU TO BE STRENGTHENED WITH POWER THROUGH HIS SPRIT in your inner being, SO THAT Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith-that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, THAT YOU MAY BE FILLED WITH ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD. Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. His hope is to be filled by God… he depend on it as do we all.
@kellyneumann2489
@kellyneumann2489 2 года назад
@@brentonstanfield5198 I don't think I said anything that disagreed with what you just said. Mr. Webb needs to definitely humble himself and bow his knee before the father. He needs to put his faith in Christ. Noting that Paul was talking to fellow believers in the Ephesians scripture.

I wonder WHY Christians still wonder about this. They leave BECAUSE THEY CAN. They aren't entrenched in their parents church anymore or anywhere else. They haven't wasted a decade doing jobs and giving money and serving on committees yet. They don't have kids who would be disappointed to leave. They are FREE to leave. You guys ought better be worried about the folks who are sitting there who haven't believed that mess in years, but all their friends are at church. Their life has been structured around the church doors opening for so long. But they have done their homework and come to their albeit painful conclusions. And when they can't stay any longer, they'll leave, too. Trust me. They're there. I know of one PASTOR who preached for 3 years AFTER he became secretly atheist. They're there. I was in the church for decades and once I figured it out, I sort of waited for a break when my kids were old enough to get why. A church split over a building program came along and voila! Out the door, never looking back. Even the strictest Amish give their young people a time to challenge the norms and come to their own reasoned choice.

Thank you for commenting. I wasn't really wondering about the answer to the topic, the video was about the authority of God's word and parents sharing their faith with their kids. You commented that a lot of people are in the church out of family obligations, traditions, or commitments made. When going to college, if there has not been a real relationship with God the decision will be to leave the church. Our default is set in sin, 1 Corinthians 2:14 "The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned" (ESV). I want to encourage Christians to make sure that they talk with their children about why they believe what they believe. I agree that the kids will eventually make the choice, but if their default is to sin and they are in an environment that is of the world then turning away from God is the choice they will make. The video was meant to encourage parents to share their faith, not their religion, with their children. You did a good job pointing out that religion without God is like a demanding social club! I agree.
