Country living is a way of life for me, and I am a Jack of all trades, a master of none. I enjoy the outdoors, especially lawn care and gardening. I like working with my hands, creating structures, and maintaining the property. I currently own an automotive repair shop, and my wife and son run it. It allows me to pursue my passion for improving the property and making RU-vid videos. If you like my channel and content, please subscribe, like the videos, and hit the notification bell.
Hoq long can wiper blades stay in their containers before use? Do they dry out or end up useless in a couple of years? Or will they last as long when they sit for a long time?
Always wanted a Corvette but …….. never had the money to buy one. My fav one is the C2 (1963). Guess it will stay a dream of mine because ….. haha, still haven’t the funds for it.
Participants sometimes have a display explaining the restoration of the vehicle. All vehicles attending the show are described by make, model, and year. It can be seen lying on the dash.
It looks like the bolts used with the brackets were not flush with the board. So, if you are stacking items in that area, they will not be flush and will not sit evenly. I believe you would need to go into the board for the height of the nuts to be flush. Otherwise, that was quite a project.
I was aware of the bolt's head sticking up. If I tightened the bolt enough, it drew it into the board, which helped with the bump. I could have countersunk the head by drilling a hole a quarter of an inch deep. I am going to continue the shelf today, and I may just do that counter sink.
My wife wants me to make something for the cat since the cardboard play house wore out. I used scrap lumber to build it and it took less than two hours to build.
This seems like a video you presented before. I am curious about the lessons you learned about the building setup for Tesla. Did you need more room. You put in a charging station. How is that working out for you? What have you learned from that experience?
David, I did episodes as the build took place and made a summary. The garage turned out as I expected. As for size, no matter what you build, more is needed. However, it was built for my son, who only plans to park there. The charging station was a straightforward hookup at the shop panel. It requires a 60 amp breaker and #6 copper wire. He starts and stops the charging on a schedule he desires. What I learned is that I would build another as desired.
I am always amazed by the space you have there. Advantage: you can fit a whole lot in there...... disadvantage: some things do require a lot of maintenance, but....... at least you have a choice of 5 wheelbarrows 🙂 !!
You made me laugh about the wheel barrels. Everything comes to me, and I didn't purchase any of them. They were given to me. As for maintenance, I painted them and repaired the wheels. I am very blessed to have what I have, and I thank God for it. I am uploading a video today that took me four hours to edit. You will like it.
The disadvantage of too much space ...... you collect again and again and find it a waste to throw something away. Nice to see that you are organizing everything neatly.
As I aged, I became a "Selective Junk Hunter." In my early days, I would bring stuff home from other people's trash. I don't do that anymore because I have evolved to a new level. Since I have been going through stuff, I have second thoughts about how many extras I need. I am getting older and want my children to only sort some things. My plan is to do it while I am alive. I enjoy the peaceful time in the barn by myself. I appreciate you!
Shipping containers are a speedy way to add additional space. When you compare the cost of the container, including delivery, to the price of a wood frame structure and the person-hours it takes to construct, there's a big difference in cost. Paying more for a one-trip container is worth the additional expense. The door works great, and the amount of damage is next to none.
Thank you for the comment. Amazingly, you use the term Engineering because it is a natural ability for me. My next video will be about organizing all the scrap materials I have collected over several decades.
Due to my income, I decided to use slag on my driveway just to touch it up. It already has slag on it, so I thought that might be the best bet. I ordered 5 tons, and was disappointed in how little that actually was, and it was mainly dust, so I wasn't prepared for that part. But I do think it was worth the price I paid, so we will se how it holds up. Also, I don't have a tractor, so I ordered a small pull behind the lawnmower grater, that worked fine for me. Thanks for the video. This was great information.
Five tons is a small amount. I usually order 20 tons at a time; in most cases, I order two. As you can see in the video, my driveway is over six hundred feet long. As for the dust, it may be a good choice because it will harden like concrete. Since you already have a slag driveway, I would not contaminate it with limestone. Thank you for watching.
Let me share a little history of the property. I purchased the land in 1974, planted all the trees, tore out the old fence rows, and built all the buildings. The only exception is the shop, where I hired a construction team to create the shell. I did all the finished work, such as electricity, insulation, and interior wall coverings, showing my personal investment in the business. It takes a lot of effort to keep up with routine maintenance of the buildings and the grounds. It has allowed me to stay busy and not become a couch potato. Remember, I raised four children while working and maintaining the property.
@@jamescarpentercountryliving Hats off for you James. Keeping busy as long as possible. Seeing all your property it will take a long time before you can settle down. Doing things yourself brings pleasure and honor. (and costs less $$$$ 🙂)
Hi James, nice those peppers. Did you know the bell peppers we call them paprika’s in the Netherlands. So the bell peppers (as we know them as paprika’s) they also come in (and I think you knew this too) in red, green and yellow. Did you know there’s a difference in the peppers/paprika’s? Turn a pepper over and check how many 'bumps' there are on the bottom. If there are three, then it is a male pepper. It contains fewer seeds and is better for stewing or baking. If there are four, you have a female pepper with more seeds, but a lot sweeter and suitable for eating raw. Enjoy your meal(s).
I do appreciate your information about male and female peppers. I have always noticed the three and four humps on the bottom of the paper; however, I just thought it was how they grew. I had some of those bell peppers in my omelet this morning. I grow potatoes in my garden and store them in my root cellar. I have a video on the root cellar if that interests you. Thank you for supporting my channel. It helps me to continue making videos. It is easy to get discouraged when you see the low amount of views I receive. The channel will soon take off and provide me with additional income with the help of people like you.
I appreciate you are telling me what the tool is. I will take it out of the drill bits and put it in the house. I am curious if I will have much use of it.
Thank you, David. Organization is critical if you seek efficiency and, likewise, recycling other people's discarded materials that are either free or very low in cost.
Like many things in my life, the compressor was a cheap purchase. The story behind it goes like this. A person I know received an inheritance and purchased some excellent tools. When the money ran out, he sold off the tools, and the compressor was one I bought. It was still brand new when I received it. I paid less than half the price he paid for it. I have two compressors in my auto repair shop that are better than those in my videos. They are older cast iron compressors. Over the years, I have developed an ability to manifest things I want. My friends say everything comes to me. The ability started long before I knew anything about manifestation. I ordered two components on Amazon. One is a reducer, and the other is a 30" adapter hose. I will install them today. I'll point it out in my next video. I appreciate you and your interest in my lifestyle. James Carpenter
Still there James 🙂. Took me a bit to response. Nice project, the scrap-cart. If I may post a remark, make a simple drawer to put inside the top of the cart, so when you want to vacuun the sawdust, you only heve to pull out this drawer instead of fundle in the hose in yhe hole on the top shelf. Maybe you find this "bull" but ..... I'm only thinking what I should make extra for easier vacuum the collected dust. Now I'm going to watch your other (later) posted clips. Btw. Great using scrap ...... w all would like to use shop-purchased lumber but wow ...... the costs these days.
Thank you for the suggestion. When I get to the shop this morning, I will look at the cart. I added a tote to catch the sawdust. I will post later today to show how it works. I'm working on cart #3, which will hold the chop saw and the lawn mower blade sharpener. Both of these tools omit nasty dust. I can open the garage door and let the sparks exit my building. It saves a lot of time cleaning up.
Hi James, we are contemplating using steel slag for our rural drive. Have you heard anything about the toxicity of the product in comparison to using limestone, etc.? For example, are there high levels of lead and/or arsenic in the material (byproduct)? The only reason I am asking is because we have children and someday expect to have grandchildren. Additionally, the drive would be adjacent to a grove of fruit trees. We aren't big enviro nuts, but it has certainly sparked some curiosity. We don't live too far from a steel mill and the product is considerably cheaper than limestone. I believe the company refers to the product as Dura Berm in our area. Anyway, all the best and thank you for taking the time to make and post these videos for all to appreciate and learn.
I have no information on the toxicity of this material. However, you can search the product for information on health effects. Thus far, the EPA has not outlawed its use. I know it will reduce the amount of money you spend on driveway upkeep. On wet days, limestone omits a mud-looking substance that gets on the car's body. That will go away, along with potholes. I have about three inches on top of my limestone driveway. In the high-traffic area, it will harden like concrete over time. I understand your concern for the grandchildren.
It was exciting watching you fix the wood-burning stove. Have you considered replacing the stove? The newer ones would be more efficient, and you could find parts easier. At what point will you consider replacing it?
David, I considered replacing the stove. Two things caused me to keep and repair this one. The cost of a new stove and the duct work would not adapt to the new stove, requiring a lot of fabrication.
When you dump it from the loader, there is dust. Once it's down, there is no dust. In the high-traffic areas, the slag hardens like concrete. Since it was put down, my driveway maintenance has been near zero. The slag I use is smaller than 57's down to dust. I'm sure the dust or smaller particles only help to lock things in.
In most cases, I like to screw a unit to the wall; however, I am selective because I don't like putting holes in the pleasant panels of the walls. The shelf is very sturdy.
James, I watched the video but the build is not for me …… I’m no potato-man, more a rice and pasta-one ….. butnever mind …. nicely build 👍🏻 Btw, why not using clamps to hold your material in place …… see it as an extra hand.
The project was too small and didn't require clamps. I may have done it the way I used to before I had clamps. My next video is on building a shelving unit. It's actually an addition to the one I built to hold bins.
Every weekend, I make breakfast for my family. I enjoy cooking; eggs, spaghetti, and chilly soup are my favorite meals. As a child, I followed my Mom around the kitchen and helped her out. She never used directions. Every ingredient, including the amount, was her choice. To this day, I do it the same way she did it. I make many people happy when they enjoy the taste of my cooking.
After seeing the Father's Day deal you showed, I received an advertisement from Phantom Fireworks for 50% off. Your deal was even better at around 66% off.
Some jobs are not so hard to do but need to be done from time to time. Leaving it the way it is, the harder it is to correct it in the future (if it isn't already too late). Have a nice weekend too James. Prepare yourself for more DIY-stuff 🙂
It has been less than a year since they were installed. I hope they will straighten out. If not, I will leave the brace in place. These doors will not get used much.
Wow James, that's a lot of fireworks. Hope you stored them safe. The only time we can buy (and set it off) is New years eve. As you already know, we don't have a 4th of July celebration because it's an American thing. People spend milions of euro's/dollars here buying fireworks. Every city/street changes in a war zone here because almost everyone buys fireworks, well I think about 75% of th Dutch. I must admit me myself havený spent 1 euro/dollar in 50 years on fireworks. I think I can spend my money on better things and can enjoy the fireworks of others around me. By war zone I mean ...... see the crazy RU-vid clip "How to sutvive Dutch fireworks" : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rGJseovT8ug.html. (meet some crazy Dutchies) 'Till next time. Greetings Mister J56 (Hans) 🙂
In Ohio, setting fireworks off was against the law; however, we did it. Last year, they made it legal to set them off on certain holidays. Putting on a show like we do is an expense. I started out twenty years ago by having a show for my family and employees, and it has grown to the point that people stop on the road to watch. I don't do videos about my auto repair shop because I've been doing it for over thirty years and lost interest. It is just an income source for me. The link is to my auto shop website if you are interested. ais-hp.com Enjoy your weekend. I appreciate your support.
I just watched the video you recommended on Dutch fireworks. The Dutch take fireworks to the Next Level. We fire them off in a fenced-in area, and I keep it safe for children and adults.
Haha, thanks for mentioning me (well, I guess you meant me 🙂). But for this video, which was interesting because I had to look up what a culvert is (Google Translate) To be honest with you, I have to admit I skipped some minutes, which I hope you don't mind. Looking at repeatable parts of getting boulders, dirt etc. was a bit to long (for me). The video was interesting but could have been 15 minutes shorter. I hope you don't mind saying this, it's just my observation (and I feel safe on the other side of the pond 🙂). Success with finishing the culvert-project and hope your "cold" will be over soon..
Yes, the comment at the end of the video was for you. My channel is small, and I don't get thousands of comments. My Dad was in Holland during the war (WWII). He was with the 30th Infantry. I've been on RU-vid for two years, and my editing ability has grown. I appreciate your honesty and will apply it to my mission to improve. As for the cold, I feel much better today. I appreciate your interest in my videos.
@@jamescarpentercountryliving Great thanks to the people like your father for their service here in the Netherlands (and in other occupied countries). Well, I subscribed to your channel so I hope to see more interesting stuff 🙂. You know what they say about the Dutch ..... they are very direct in what they're saying (good and bad), but that's how we are. We say what we're thinking. Have a nice evening and ...... see you! FYI. correction .... I know many people (even Dutch) use the name Holland, which is incorrect. The Netherlands count 12 provinces and 2 of them are called Noord Holland en Zuid Holland but the whole country is named The Netherlands. The Dutch government has officially decided in 2020 to drop the moniker of Holland going forward, and will only refer to itself as the Netherlands. Btw. Don't "grow" to big because before you know it you have to reply to your comments 24/7 🙂
@@MisterJ56 Thank you for subscribing. I like that people from the Netherlands are direct and to the point. The world would be a better place if everyone spoke the truth. My Dad and Mom returned to France in 1976 and took a tour of the path of the 30th Infantry, including the Netherlands. My Dad became friends with some locals during the war and got to see them after several years. Is there any video content you would like to see me do? As you can see from the footage and what you see in the background, I purchased my property in 1974. It was farmland. I built the buildings and planted the trees with my two hands. When my Mother passed in 2019, I purchased her property from the estate. I remodeled the house and two barns. I have videos of the shipping container barn and restoring the 1800s barn.
Value of this forklift ? Depends on construcyion year and which type I guess. I'm totally NOT into forklifts or other heavy duty vehicles ......... sorry 🙂 FYI: Hyster Company is a leading designer and manufacturer of lift trucks with more than 90 years of experience and the strong backing of its parent company, Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. and yes ....... also sold in the Netherlands.
I've done some research and found that the forklift is from 1973-1980. I should have looked for a data plate, but didn't think to do so I will check it before purchase. I found similar units in better condition for $7,000 and up. I feel $5,000 for this unit may be a tad bit high, so I'm going to see if the owner will take $4,000 or throw in another piece of equipment.
@@jamescarpentercountryliving You are right. Condition of this one seems to be not in the finest conditions. $5000,00 is a lot, considering it needs a load of work/effort/money to restore this one. Perhaps $ 4000,00 including 3 gallons of paint and a lot of sandingpaper will do the trick. Good luck with the negotiations.
