I love taco salad, but since I can't do hot spices or tomatoes anymore on the GERD diet and I'm allergic to avocados, garlic and dairy, can you recommend a ranch dressing that's dairy free? I've discovered that Violife or Follow My Heart faux cheese is yummy, but the ranch dressing continues to evade me. I've tried several homemade recipes, but they just don't have the same zing that store-bought does. Hope you can help.
As a parent of kids with allergies, shout-out to Spencer for sharing his story and setting such a great example of taking care of one’s self. Awesome role model, it’s clear his mom taught him how to look out for himself well.
I can’t do high fructose corn syrup because in addition to food allergies I have fructose malabsorption and GERD. But thank you for the shopping trip. Good to know what they carry.
😱A lot of what you looked at had corn on the ingredient list. I don’t know what your specific food allergies are but most of those foods sure won’t work for me.
Thanks for this! Parents of children without food allergies really don’t understand the importance of finding safe foods for our kids that they actually like to eat!
I have fructose malabsorption, therefore am intolerant to the fructan or sugar in wheat. I would assume that wheat starch contains fructose, am I right? I eat gluten-free products, because generally they are wheat-free. Thanks for the warning!
Yes, we didn’t ask for this. I have had asthma since high school and this year diagnosed with 11 food allergies. I also live with other diseases such as pigmentary glaucoma, arthritis, GERD, fructose malabsorption, etc.
Sounds like you had a great time! Thanks for being brave for us and telling us about the trip. I told my husband some time ago that a river cruise would be great fun as we live in the Midwest, then I found out about my 11 food allergies plus I’m following the GERD and a modified Fodmap diet. Communication is key, I think. 😊
I was asked this question recently and I didn’t know the answer. I’ve had asthma for years, but was recently diagnosed with 11 food allergies, one being soy. Soy margarine makes me wheeze: can soy candles also give me an allergic reaction?
As Dr. Stukus refers to at 15:15, diffusers and candle fumes can be an irritant that triggers symptoms. As someone who also has soy allergy, I find it's not clear whether soy candles contain actual soy protein. But I tend to avoid, as do most people with asthma as well as soy allergy. Proximity to fumes matters for symptoms. Speak to your doctor/allergist, but you may be OK if you've pretreated with albuterol and it's 1-2 candles you can stay away from. But if you know a host, it's also just easy to raise this ahead of time. Perhaps offer to bring some candles? Best with.
I put out a teal pumpkin on my front porch last night. We only had 1 trick or treater and she wanted candy. We haven’t heard of the teal pumpkin project here too much in our small town, but I realize the importance of a non food treat now since I’ve been diagnosed with 11 food allergies in June of this year.
Well in all fairness, they had to prove that it would be effective during an allergic reaction with nasal mucus. That’s not a straight forward study. They got it done. Buy early. Buy often
I'm going to try the vanilla one. I want to start making my own oat milk so there is less in my recycling box. Thank you so much for your delicious recipe
Thank you for making this video. It definitely simplified things for me. I have a lot of health issues and I’m trying to figure out what’s causing my flareups. Right now I cut out Gluten (doctor recommended), dairy (I’ve had issues with it for years), and processed food/refined sugar (new but also doctor recommended) I’m new to meal planning but I’ve been cooking for years so I just sub out all the stuff that I can’t eat with some thing that I can. I have to be on a special diet when I’m in a Crohn’s flare up though because like everything causes it to flare up. Basically, I have a collagen issue which caused a Hashimoto’s which kind of went undiagnosed uncared for for over 20 years. The past two years I’ve developed a lot of weird reactions to food, medication, lotions, and even things like sunlight, and getting too cold. I will say, though cutting out the things that were bothering me has made a massive impact on my life. I really wish there were more videos about meal planning when you’re on a special diet. I really appreciate yours though. Thank you so much!

I am planing to travel this year by plane with my 4 years old son with multiple food allergies and I am scared because there is no answer and a lot of unknown how he will react 😢
Rice and beans are our must. We buy 20lb bags of rice because it's mostly what my middle child will eat. I cook rice every single day. We have over 14 food allergies and don't have a pantry. I put a plastic 3 story shelf from Walmart in our one little storage closet and we put food on it. The closet has shoes, Christmas decorations, the whole Christmas tree, the vacuum cleaner and food. 🤣🤣 When covid hit We were at a local food bank crying because there was so much food but we couldn't hardly eat any of it. I will never forget that day.
Great summary of tips, Megan! I remember what that initial diagnosis was like 24 years ago before food labeling laws and the HOURS of label reading in the middle of the night (usually after the 2am feeding) at the grocery store so I could figure out what I would serve our family that week. The learning curve is steep but they're all building blocks to an easier future. Thanks for all that you do to role model learning from each other.
This is so good. I guess not many people with multiple food allergies out there. But for the few of us parents with children who have multiple allergies, this is good. 5 months into managing my baby’s allergies. I feel slightly more confident.
16 years in and its still a nightmare. But I’m dealing with: fussy teen (with allergies); fussy son (autism); fussy son (just fussy); fussy husband (diabetes and just bloody fussy). Nightmare. 🤯
I make sure to have a good rotation system down, that it hopefully doesn't happen. I buy things we regularly eat, so we're eating through it and replenishing it constantly. I throw things out if they happen to be past the sell date, but thankfully that doesn't happen often.
Does anyone here work in an allergy clinic and still believe in human ethics and rights? I have a question which someone who is kind enough to answer. Can they jab someone who takes regular allergy shots without them knowing ?
I was against getting vaccinated until my job sent all employees an email letter stating that for those of us not vaccinated we may be let go from our positions. So I got vaccinated I received the Pfizer vaccine first on 10/19/21 all I experience was a sore/tender arm for 2-3 days but then I got the second vaccine 2 weeks later 11/2/21 i believe ( my card is in my wallet) in the right arm again with the arm tenderness and sore but then a week later I noticed a rash on my hands, inside of elbows and underarms. I went to see my doctor he put me on the prednisone pack regimen and Benadryl, it cleared up but as soon as I finishes the treatment the rash came back with a vengeance now it’s in on the bottom of my feet around by nose, my scalp, on my lips , on my tongue and the areas I had already mentioned. I am miserable and doctors don’t want to hear me when I say it was after the covid vaccine they are quick to shut me down. 😭
