Of course OP shouldn’t invite her family. After all, they told her how it would upset the sister, so OP is just being thoughtful and avoiding doing just that. And she understands that the parents would be in a quandary about choosing between daughters, so she’s helping them make the right choice. She’s a good daughter, making sacrifices for her sister. (Yes, I’m petty.)
People who say horrible things to others, and then tell them to get a sense of humour are horrible. A good comeback would be, "I have a sense of humour, but I am not sensing any humour."
If I had a parent call me filth I’d never speak to them again and give them the finger on my way out. Not only is she a cheater but blaming her child for her own circumstances automatically makes her worse than trash.

As someone with controlling parents I think I can see where he could be coming from. I mean the way his parents didn’t approve of his girlfriend I think could indicate that his parents were very controlling and manipulative in other ways and they might have spanked him so that he was less willing to be honest with them. One might try to argue that if that was the case he should have done more to keep his job, but I think childhood trauma from abuse could make the requirements of work more stressful and make it so that he has to have a job in order to get away from his parents but also needs to have a break from his parents in order to recover enough to be in a position to work. Shopping could be a way to cope with childhood trauma. Oftentimes society doesn’t recognize that it’s possible for someone to have rich parents but, still have parents that are control freaks, and so he may have felt that he couldn’t really trust anyone enough to talk about his problems, or he may not have even had the words to describe them. Of course one might say that he probably shouldn’t have been in a relationship then, but I think that would maybe be a bit unrealistic especially because if he had controlling parents then he may see a relationship as liberating him from his parents. Of course even if what I say is true then that’s still doesn’t make it fair to the OP, but the point is that I think in this case it’s at least possible that his parents are the real AH and are the reason he behaves the way he does. I do think there are better ways to go about it if this is the case, such as asking a potential girlfriend how she feels about people who have parents who are very controlling and then using her answer to determine whether to discuss his situation and continue the relationship.
I dont get people like this. Why would you continue to lead someone on if you aren't in love with them? I can only assume she enjoyed cheating and was too much of a coward. And wanted to break him so she just left without a word. Either way, im sure she's cheating on his brother. Cheaters always do it again. They can't help themselves.

You would be surprised at how stupid people can be. My ex-SIL got mad at her roommate and told Food Stamps that she was giving roommate money every month for rent. So...undeclared income. The woman was literally FLABBERGASTED when said roommate kicked her out. It never occurred to her that THAT could be a possible outcome. I can completely see this story unfolding, particularly about the sister telling on herself. When you have a complete lack of morals, you think 1. everyone is like you, or 2. they are simps waiting to be taken advantage of (like the OP).

It's odd to see one of these stories where the family rally to the aggrieved Son. Usually the family sides with the cheating son and tell the other that *"Family comes first"* and demand he forgive his brother.
Here's the future I see. At some point they split custody, and his parents spoil the kid and turn the kid against her, and she ends up losing them to money.
op isn't very smart with that 6 month offer in exchange for not contesting the will. it was in his best interest to have her vacate the house as soon as possible and take possession of it himself. he might have even given her the idea to contest the will with that offer.

Fake story, fraud can be brought to civil courts; but it is definitely a criminal crime they would’ve had to do jail time once the bank found out the documents were forged; he could’ve taken them to civil court on top of that for emotional & financial damage bcuz his credit score would’ve went down after the bank made an inquiry, but then just settling out of court would’ve been the least of their parents worried & the sister would’ve been complicit in the fraud for that to never come up seems like the story is fake

Maybe in his eyes , yes , it was favouritism ... But what i hear is that they both (the sons) had their own qualities in different fields and Jared being the oldest made achievements earlier than Nathan which lowered his own self-esteem and became jealousy. What i hear is , Nathan saw his parents fawning over Jared's achievements while they '' didn't '' for him. Which is apparently false , but he also didn't tried. They were good at different things but Nathan was insecire af.

I think that the story might have been written by AI or rewritten by AI. It kind of took me out of the experience of listening. Too much purple prose, unnecessary details, it seems to just pad the reading time or whatnot. I also agree with you, OP's sister is a character and toxic toward OP but yet, OP decided to go to the hateful sister's house for dinner and be late lol. OP does have a hand in the drama since OP chose to engage, so I call BS with her statement that she's disengaging. Also, it's not that far-fetched for siblings to be helping each other out in the kitchen during dinner party. But sister's request sounded like a command and she sounded like she's a hateful person to begin with....
Besides Nathan, this is the truest definition of family. This is the exact type of structure and respect I'm trying to teach my sons. I hope that as a father, the values that I'm teaching my children will foster honorable sons like the OP in this story. Forget what everybody else is saying. The grandparents are the real MVPs of this story. To both OP and his wife. Because they clearly raised phenomenal kids. But above all, the grandfather deserves special recognition because it's completely obvious by his response that he clearly runs a tight ship and expects nothing but the best from his family. Their response to Nathan might have been harsh. But not only was it completely justified, it's the only response that you can give to a person trying to destroy the whole family. Cut him off and separate yourselves from the cancer within your family. Just like surgery, it takes time to heal. But in time you will heal!
