In case anyone forgot, MS Windows wasn't free. If you didn't buy it separately, the license was built into the cost of your computer. While Motif widgets weren't classically beautiful, it actually looks better than early windows and appears to have been easier to use. I might be willing to try that over Windows 11.

@@mikechappell4156 Motif, CDE, et al were costing much more than Windows. Also, the Windows and MacOS widgets were looking (and working) better than Motif (because people, not programmers, designed them).

You used CDE from 120 years in the past to 30 years in the future? Man, that must be a great desktop environment.

I'm not sure if I can do that. But i can give you a list of the parts you need for this battery. The most necessary parts cost a total of 50 euros. A 3pin XLR connector to connect it to the camera, a 12 Volt Li-Ion battery with BMS unit and charger. You don't even have to solder and can connect everything with screw terminal blocks. Maybe you know someone who is able to put this together?

Just in case you're still looking, I was able to solder together the XLR4 jack that plugs into it on the back, and a Type-C PD trigger cable from Amazon that triggers at 12 volts. The pinout of the XLR4 jack is provided on the back of the camera, and there's just two wires, so as long as + and - are not mistaken it should be easy. Then you just plug it into any Type-C PD capable charger or power bank and off you go! Most power banks max out at 9V though, even if they have 12V written on it, but my Victor KY1900 in particular works just fine down to 7.5V, albeit the "Low Battery" light is a bit annoying sometimes. The advantage to this solution is that working with LiIon batteries directly as suggested above is dangerous, and with a Power Bank it comes prepackaged in a nice little box. And if it explodes during charging anyway, you can always blame the manufacturer and not yourself!! xD

@@massesesclaves644 Since then I have actually tried the KY1900 on a powerbank with USB PD from Anker. One issue was that it didn't want to trigger on 12V, and the KY1900 does not work at 9V. So instead I had to build a 12V QuickCharge trigger cable - that kinda worked but the colors are all over the place and there is noise on the picture, because the powerbank is too weak. So you need to get one of the big ones which can be used to charge a laptop for example, a 60W one. Then search for a "USB-C PD Trigger Cable" with the correct 12 V voltage, and an XLR 4-pin connector (might be easier to find at a professional audio-video shop). Wire the output to the XLR connector ensuring correct polarity, and hopefully you should be all good. I don't use amazon so sadly I can't point you to a specific cable.

Hey, im using the USB EasyCap device. It outputs a MP4. I've read that they can have different chips inside, so they have a different capture quality. The Software I use is OTG View 4.3, it shows a squeezed image on screen, but the recording is good. Don't get the 4.3.3 Version, that one gave me Problems. I still have not found an ideal capture programm for Android. The ones i found are more or less crappy.

I think, I had two bad caps in the viewfinder. Does the camera not do a picture otherwise? Have you tried to connect a TV or USB-Capturecard to the composite output of the camera?

You can use a RGB/BNC to VGA Adapter but you also need a monitor that can display RGB with Sync on green. The Samsung SyncMaster 931BF worked with that.

Ja, alte Videos Kameras werden so langsam wiederentdeckt. Habe mir schon einige RU-vid Videos dazu angesehen. Aber solche TV Kameras sind eine noch kleinere Nische in der Nische. Aber freut mich auch wenn Ich nicht der einzige bin ^^ Mir bereitet die Justage der Farben einiges an Kopfzerbrechen. Ich weiss nicht, ob die Lampen unbedingt eine Farbtemperatur von 3200K haben müssen oder ob es OK ist wenn Ich die Farb-Charts einfach irgendwo ausdrucken lasse. Wirklich genau ist das ja alles nicht. Ich will mir die Kameras nicht noch mehr verstellen als sie eh schon sind ^^ Ausserdem zittert das Bild manchmal horizontal, das kann man auch an manchen Stellen im Video sehen. Vielleicht hat das was mit dem horizontal sync zu tun, aber keine Ahnung.

@@megaflops3860 Bei mir hat das vor ein paar Jahren angefangen, als mit ein Kumpel so eine alte Newvicon-Kamera in die Hand gedrückt hat, ich wollte mehr davon, stiess auf Trinicon, fand das beeindruckend gut, was da aus der HVC-3000 raus kam, stiess auf die DXC-1820, die viel cooler aussah und bin so bei den Broadcast-Kameras gelandet. Eine DXC-1820 habe ich bis heute nicht, sie wurde zugunsten der DXC-M3A gleich übersprungen, zu der sich dann mittlerweile über 20 weitere "Exponate" von 1981-2006 gesellten. Das Neuste ist dann eine heute noch gut verwendbarere PDW-F330. Die Sammlung hat mittlerweile die antiquierten Rechner weitgehend ersetzt, meine letzte DEC3000 ging neulich auch über den Tisch :) Wenn Du bis zur Justage der Farben (und damit auch Gains und so) kommst, wird es langsam etwas knifflig. Ich dacht, mein farbkalibrierter Dell Monitor ist doch prima für sowas - aber auch in voll aufgedreht hat der nicht genug Helligkeit, um bei ausreichend geschlossener Blende die notwendige Amplitude zu kriegen - wenn die Blende zu weit offen ist, sieht die Wavevorm "vignettiert" aus, zumindest denke ich, daß es daher kommt, die Preamps sind wohl in Ordnung. Du wirst also wohl tatsächlich mit gedruckten Charts und einem angemessenen Scheinwerfer mehr Erfolg haben. Wenn der nicht exakt 3200K hat, stimmt halt Deine Weissreferenz nicht perfekt, aber ich denke, dafür extra ein Colorimeter anzuschaffen, würde diese Leidenschaft dann doch zu weit treiben. Wichtiger ist bei der Beleuchtung sicherlich der CRI, also die Gleichmässigkeit des Farbspektrums, da siehts dann bei LEDs schon eher schlecht aus und etwas sonderbare Effekte nach der Einstellung einer Newvicon-Kamera vor einer Weile könnten darauf zurück zu führen sein, daß ich den TV als "Patternbox" missbraucht habe. Ich denke immer mehr, daß das alles irgendwie nix wird, wenn man sich nicht doch mal so einen 500W Halogen-Scheinwerfer dazu holt. Wird dann aber schnell arg warm im Arbeitszimmer. Ich werde die JVC Kameras wohl daher mehr nach Gefühl einstellen, das wird aber nicht viel besser als das, was Deine ohnehin schon ausspuckt. Wenn ich dem eine DXC-M3A gegenüber stelle, die nach 35 Jahren einfach so ein farblich tolles Bild mit perfekter Registrierung auswirft, stärkt das meine aufgrund anderer Erlebnisse mit JVC Broadcast-Technik schon ziemlich beeinträchtige Meinung über diese Marke auch nicht gerade :) Habe sie erstmal wieder in ihren Koffer gesteckt, bis ich mal wieder die Geduld habe, weiter dran rum zu drehen. Das Bild ist aber trotz der Schwierigkeiten jetzt schon viel besser als vorher, auch, wenn alleine die Geometrie-Einstellung mehrere Abende gebraucht hat, bis sie mal wirklich sauber war. Bildzittern jeglicher Art ist bei mir vollständig verschwunden, als ich restlos alle 47µF/10V getauscht hatte. Davor (noch nicht vollständig recapped, mir sind die Elkos ausgegangen) hatte die Kamera immer auf skurrilste Arten rumgesponnen, gerade Sync war nie stabil, die Elkos waren messtechnisch zumindest stichprobenhaft noch okay und hatten nur teilweise grüne Füsse, aber seit dem Tausch habe ich stundenlang ein stabiles Bild ohne Probleme. Und ich habe meistens auch so einen billigen Framegrabber dran, um das Bild neben dem Service Manual auf dem Rechner zu haben.

@@MichaelKukat Das ist interessant, denn Ich habe meine DEC 3000 auch verkauft ^^ damit war meine Reise mit UNIX beendet. Ich hatte auch eine SGI Octane und habe 3D Animation mit Maya gelernt. Aber irgendwann hatte Ich genug davon - ein Amiga und ein C64 reichen mir jetzt. Mit den Kameras habe Ich vor 3 Jahren angefangen, wie auch mit dem drehen von Videos, was Ich vorher nie gemacht habe. Durch die RU-vid Videos von Cathode Ray Dude bin Ich dann auf die Broadcast Kameras und Röhrensensoren gekommen. Ja, wahrscheinlich muss Ich alle 47µf Elkos ersetzen. Ich habe schon 3 ersetzt die frisch ausgelaufen waren. Ausserdem habe Ich noch eine andere KY-1900 die überall Elkos mit grünen Füssen hatte, sogar auf der Bodenplatine, an der man nur herankommt wenn die Kamera in alle Einzelteile zerlegt, was Ich auch gemacht habe. Ich habe noch 3 Consumerkameras mit Röhrensensoren, die auch ausgelaufene Elkos hatten. Scheint eine Plage zu sein :( Wahrscheinlich sind meine Sorgen wegen der Justage der Farben etwas übertrieben. Die KY-1900 die in Betrieb ist, hat noch eine gute Farbwiedergabe. Da muss erstmal nicht gemacht werden. Eine Sony DXC M3 habe Ich auch ^^ das Bild ist tatsächlich besser, das kann Ich bestätigen. Aber sie scheint mehr Strom zu ziehen. Der Lithium Akku der an der KY-1900 ganze 2 Stunden hält, hält an der DXC-M3 nur eine viertel Stunde. Vielleicht hat der Akku zuwenig Ampere.

@@megaflops3860 Interessant, wir haben da wohl ähnliche Hobbyverläufe, ich bin gerade auch dabei, die Reste meiner Retro-Unix-Sammlung abzustoßen, vor 20 Jahren waren das auch insgesamt über 100 Rechner. Von den nicht-Unix-Kisten stehen aber immer noch ausreichend rum. SGI stosse ich gerade ab, 2 Indigo2 waren jahrelang meine daily driver. die letzte davon steht noch hier, kommt aber auch demnächst weg. Ich hatte früher auch nix mit Video am Hut, wobei ich einiges bei RU-vid gemacht hatte, bevor ich meine Faszination für professionelle Videotechnik gefunden habe :) So eine KY-210 wie CRD hat, steht auch noch auf meiner Wunschliste, die ist ein absoluter Hingucker in dem knalligen Orange aber dem kantigen Broadcast-Look der späten 80er. Ach, Du hast erst 3 getauscht? Dann bin ich beeindruckt, wie gut das Bild von Deiner KY-1900 ist. Ich hab die letzte Aktion noch nit in meinem Lagerverwaltungs-git, aber insgesamt dürften das an ca. 40 von den 47µF gewesen sein, dazu einige 100µF/10V in der Kamera und auch die 4 im Sucher. Elkos sind die Pest. Und das 80er Zeug ist dabei noch heilig, schlimmer waren die frühen 90er (genauer etwa 1989-1995) mit den vermutlich falsch verarbeiteten SMD-Elkos. 150 Stück in der KY-27, 300 Stück im Sony BVW-50P, etwa 90 in der BVW-300P, Amiga 1200/600/CD32 hatte ich vor vielen Jahren auch schon recapped und Consumer Video8-Camcorder kommnen gleich in den Schrott, wenns irgendwo auf der Platine feucht aussieht oder nach Fisch riecht. Ich denke, ich tausche pro Jahr mehrere 100 Elkos in allerlei Zeug aus. Drum fahre ich langsam das Sammeln von Altelektronik auch deutlich runter, das Zeug frisst einfach zuviel Pflegeaufwand. Aber ja, leider wird die Initialzündung meiner Sammlung wohl wegen auslaufenden Elkos auch über kurz oder lang im Schrott landen, eine Olympus VX-301 oder so, rebranded Panasonic PK-957 war das, wenn ich mich recht erinnere, gibt auch kein Service Manual zu. Seit den Dickschiffen ist das Interesse an den Consumer-Kameras eher weg, ich hebe nur die SABA-Geräte auf, sind alles JVC, aber SABA hatte in meiner Jugend eine große Bedeutung für mich. Einer davon ist der umgelabelte GR-C1, der Camcorder aus Zurück in die Zukunft. Funktioniert auch, nur etwas grünstichig, den will ich mal noch überarbeiten. Aber der bleibt auch Deko, hin und wieder mal mit rumspielen, sinnvoll einsetzen werde ich wohl nur die 3 "modernen" 16:9-fähigen Camcorder der Sammlung. Ich hätte eher erwartet, die DXC-M3A ist sparsamer. Hast Du sie mal an ein Labornetzgerät gehängt? Vielleicht ist auch einfach nur die Low-Bat-Schwelle höher eingestellt und Dein Akku war gar nicht wirklich leer. Wie viele Zellen hast Du in Reihe? Die alten Kisten sind leider noch auf 10 NiCd Zellen ausgelegt, da kommt man ohne DC-DC-Wandler mit LiIon nicht so richtig klar, die späteren Kameras sind glaub für 10,5-17V ausgelegt, als die auf LiIon gegangen sind, 4 Zellen in Reihe, ich habe einige V-Mount-Kameras/Akkus, das funktioniert richtig prima. Für die alten Kameras habe ich mir 2 NP-1B mit neuen NiCd Zellen beglückt, bei meiner BVW-300P waren 7 tote Akkupacks dabei. Das erste Experiment, da AA Eneloops rein zu stecken, scheiterte kläglich, die Kameras ziehen doch einiges an Strom und brauchen entsprechende Akkus. In den LiIon-Akkus sind gerne mal 3 oder 4 Zellen parallel, mein "Kleinster" hat 2P4S, da ich da drin die LiPo-Zellen durch 18650 ersetzen musste. Hat aber mit den Hochstrom-Zellen, die ich verbaut habe, auch 98Wh und ist sogar etwas leichter als vorher.

@@MichaelKukat Ja, vielleicht liegt es an der Low-Bat-Schwelle. Die DXC-M3 verbaucht mit 42 Watt nur 6 Watt mehr als die KY-1900, ausserdem schaltet sie sich schon bei 12,0 V ab. Hab die Kameras mal an so einen Verbrauchsanzeiger gesteckt. Diesen Lithium Akku hab Ich komplett gekauft, von Eremit. Ich traue mich noch nicht die Zellen selbst zusammen zu löten mit den ganzen Schutzmechanismen ^^ Neuerdings habe Ich eine KY-320B (meine dritte Kamera), die funktioniert wiederum sehr gut mit diesem Lithium Akku. Eine ähnliche Kamera wie sie der Cathode Ray Dude hat. Die ist zwar leider nicht so schön orange, aber hat ein ähnliches Design und Plumbicon Röhren. Ja, wahrscheinlich werde Ich auch bald viele Elkos in der KY-1900 tauschen müssen. Ich habe Mich schon darauf vorbereitet. So viele Elkos wie du habe Ich in meinem Leben noch nicht getauscht, aber meine Sammlungen sind auch viel kleiner (Platzmangel ist einer der Gründe) und meine Fähigkeiten sind ziemlich begrenzt. 300 Elkos in einer Sony BVW zu tauschen ist schon der Wahnsinn, aber Ich würde das mit sicherheit auch tun, wenn Ich diese Kamera hätte ^^ Ein paar Elkos im Amiga 2000 mussten getauscht werden und es gab auch den berüchtigten Akku-Schaden den Ich beheben konnte. In der DXC-M3 flackert der Sucher immernoch, darum muss Ich mich auch noch kümmern. Einerseits ist das mit den Elkos ziemlich lästig, aber andererseits bin Ich froh dass es nur die Elkos sind und nicht noch andere Dinge, mal abgesehen von Gummie-Riemen.

@@IkarusKommt Not at all, Windows 3x was a toy compared to almost any other graphical operating system/window manager at the time, Windows users didn't get to experience anything like it until Windows 98 and 2000 (95 was a mess), and even then, there are many features that were established in UNIX environments and Amiga that were only implemented in Windows in the mid-2010s, (and even so, these were implemented in a mediocre way too, such as virtual desktops). Windows 11 had to copy a lot of stuff from the *NIX desktops because Windows were just falling behind, to the point that the only real "innovation" of the OS is the built-in spyware and the planned obsolescence of mobile phones brought to the PC market.

@@Sumire973 What features? Unix had no features, being a timesharing system for universities. MS DOS and Windows were groundbreaking in the new ways to interact with computers and cornucopia of productivity applications. BTW, 'virtual desktops' is not the feature of Unix, it's not even a feature of the X server. It is just cosmetic detail some window managers support. Then again, the virtual desktops were available for Windows since the version 3.0.

HAHAHAHA, if the first thing Bill Gates did when he wanted to get into the operating systems market was buy an OS from a third party, which was a clone of another OS from a friend of his, and he took out the copying machine along with the hardware manufacturers (because IBM made the mistake of opening its platform) in order to boost the Wintel monopoly (and even so it took time because the IBM PC Compatibles were technically very inferior platforms to the competition until the early 90s). The only thing that Bill Gates (and Microsoft by extension) knew how to do and what he really innovated in was being a thief, stealing other people's ideas and passing them off as his own. That was literally Microsoft modus operandi during the 90s, and is still true today (to a lesser extent to avoid attracting the attention of regulators, obviously).

If you mean QDOS (a loose CP/M port), MS-DOS is a complete reimagining of it, adding a robust and extensible FAT filesystem, installable device drivers and handle-based IO, the support for keyboards, screens, and printers, etc.

I got them from ebay, but i dont know the seller anymore. Often you can find belt kits there, also for VCRs, when you just type in the name of the product. The belts in this video are 1mm thick and have a diameter of 10mm. There is also a big flat belt under the cassette mechanism, which I did not replace because it was still OK.

Windows had virtual desktops since 1990. Nobody used them because that concept is stupid.

@@IkarusKommt I'm pretty sure they weren't implemented by the windows shell (Program Manager/Explorer) though. I think you had some alternate shells like Window Blinds that allowed you to use virtual desktops though. (I didn't look up the year.) In Linux I can't think of any window managers that don't allow you to use multiple desktops even going back to TWM in the base X11 install. I always liked being able to easily break down work, play, communications, etc. Microsoft always preferred to keep their interface uncomplicated. I think the reason they started using multiple desktops in the last several years is they actually need to compete with Linux desktops now. Unfortunately for them, Windows 11 is a mess. Routinely, new windows decide it's okay to open in the background or minimized and modal dialog boxes open up behind other windows, it is a real PITA.

@HoboWild Unix wasn't trying to win. They had the professionals, who wanted functionality, and that was enough. In fact, my problem is that Linux is trying to win casual users. Because these users then come and demand x, y or z, stuff which will make it easier for THEM, but harder for ME.

For me, literally everything the Linux crowd created in Desktop-land just gets into the way. Yeah, it may be nice for casual users, but I'm not a casual user and there never will be an ample amount of casual users. I want my "hard to use" 90s Unix desktop, so I can get my work done.

90 % of the people are better off with Windows or Mac OS. I never doubted that, and I don't want to fight that.
