Here, we have a Grand Guignol and a bloodbath--and a pickup truck--and still can't produce a hundredth of haunting and surreal effect Callas could produce in a simple white gown with a spotlight, while barely moving on stage.
*Look at all the blood that Nadine Sierra has I thought for a second she fell off stage and broke her leg but it’s part of the act of Lucia De Lammore it’s fake blood 😂🩸*
She's my favorite contemporary coloratura soprano. Take a listen to Luisa Tetrazzini and Lilli Lehemann. Don't think Luisa Tetrazzini recorded this but Lehemann did at the age of 59. She was a great Wagnerian soprano as well
Nadine Sierra’s is one of this generation’s finest young sopranos and seems to light up the stage whenever she is singing. Sierra’s coloratura is effortless and her voice has a lovely fluidity. Opera Magazine Readers’ 2023 Award was presented to American soprano Nadine Sierra, in the only award of the evening voted for by the public. American soprano @nadine.sierra becomes the new ambassador of the brand for the Opera and classical music industry.

Lei è brava ma la sceneggiatura è orribile. Sembra reduce da un massacro con tutto quel sangue inutile. Provoca ribrezzo e fastidio nello spettatore che è disturbato anche nell' ascolto.
Thank you for this post. I am no fan of the production, so why bemoan it? I will say that Ms. Sierra's performance is well-acted, well-sung, and beautifully intoned. So many contemporary opera singers seem to sing roles prematurely. She sang her first Lucia around the same age as Dame Sutherland, so in that way, they are aligned. Although Ms. Sutherland is incomparable vocally, I think Ms. Sierra holds her own very well and manages to avoid the collapsed voice and tonal issues so many of her contemporaries have. Brava!
Of the Lucias live and on video within the past 10 years, I'd say that Nadine Sierra's warmer, plush sound is my favorite. I was listening intently for the technical precision coupled with expressiveness that reminded me of the Sutherland and Callas recordings I grew up listening to. Nadine did not disappoint. Roulades, spot on. Real trills and not just bubbling on one note, spot on. Expressive execution of the coloratura phrases, spot on. Facility in the upper register with a dependable result each time the music took her above the staff, spot on. Dramatic involvement and meaningful communication, spot on. The only drawback was the horrid production. I particularly enjoyed having the two verses of the cabaletta. We are witnessing a fine lyric-coloratura at the top of her game. I hope that someday Maria Stuarda, Elisabetta I (Roberto Devereux), Imogene, Beatrice di Tenda and in time, Norma will make it into her rep. It'll be great to hear these works performed by a soprano with all of the necessary skills. Thanks for posting!
As always, Nadine sang magnnificently, but I wasn't thrilled with the production; it was set in modern times, and there was an unnecessary amount of fake blood, especially on Nadine's costume.
