We must get back to the sea.

Trying to find a way to find our way on a small 70's sailboat.

Why are we choosing a life on the sea? The first and logical answer is because we love the sea. We have no ambitions to look for adventures, set up goals, make sailing deadlines or find ourselves. What we long for is being with ourselves and finding our way by allowing as much freedom as possible, as well as embracing the limitations of the sea and wind. Welcome to share this existence with us.

I dont think the whole rockwool needs to be removed, just the "burned" or charred bit just under the wire mesh. That burned bit is preventing a good evaporation of the ethanol...changing that little bit out for fresh causes the evaporation to occure faster fascilitating a better burning stove... BTW: this burning is caused by running the canisters down to empty. If you fill the canisters up in time they can not burn the rockwool just under the wire mesh...

You hit the jackpot being able to use it in the boat. Origos are great pieces of kit. Never sell them, never get rid of them... They last a lifetime and since they are no longer manufactured (there are knock-offs I have read) they should hold their value... And yes, cooking with ethanol which is available form most shops (the ussual 96%) is normal to be slow and rather difficult to get very hot. Backing and boiling is great, deep frying not so much...Unless you want to insulate the pot with those special white fiber glass blanket material. Yopu can get higher proof ethanols at premium prices or use so called molecular seives (3 Angstrom) to remove the water from the ethanol store bought. The seives are small (2-3mm) clay granules which can absorbe small (3 Angstrom) molecules like water but the larger ethanol molecules can not enter inside them. After a couple of hours and some gentle swirling you can cant off the almost pure ethanol. The molecular seives need to be dried (can be done in a solar oven setup) for the next use. Molecular seives are able to remove 20% of their dried weight of water so 1 kg is able to remove the 4% water from of about 4 L of ethanol.

Smart to refurbish your canister. They are next to impossible to find now since Origo discontinued the product. And no one is picking it up to produce.

Hello how did the rock wool turn out after using it for 10 months? The reason I ask is I just found 2 Origo 1500 with pot holders for 60 dollars each. I have not tried them yet. The wool inside looks a little burnt on top. I am not sure if that is normal?? Thank you again.

Hi Hindukush! That's a great deal on the Origos! It's normal that it's a little burnt, but if it gets moist with water it's really hard to dry out and the effect of the stove drops radically. Our stove works great so far!

@@larsberner3186 Hi Lars watch this guy's video to get the idea of using fiberglass insulation to replace the fiberglass in the Origo canisters. Very cheap and easy to do. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wTbAVPdwzqQ.html

Great video. I was looking for an alcohol stove test video. Only remark on the video is to keep an eye on the sound levels. They go from very low volume to very high and all in between. That is not so great when you watch while others sleep. It is pretty easy to adjust in the video procesing software when editing the video.
