nice work on the tank. i wound up buying the lowbrow wx tanks because i cannot weld thin material to save my life. love the tanks, but wow, a bit spendy.
Only way to figure it out is to do it. I had originally looked at the lowbrow tanks and then saw the price. I have $160 in these and then my time. All part of the journey.
hey, i admire your work. i have three shovels and an 86 sporty that are being built. not rich or anything, just scatterbrained. took apart two bikes that didnt need taking apart aaaaaannnnddd, you know how that goes... i think i'm going to steal this idea for 1...or two of my builds. looks very distinctive. i'm thinking of splitting rocker covers too. because i can. mill and lathe, you can do anything, am i right?
I bought my 81 Wide Glide new in 82, I still have it and will never part with it! It’s still all stock except for pipes and air cleaner bars , only problems it’s ever had is of course the transmission seal and a voltage regulator! And you’d have to see for yourself….’No Leaks!!! ‘ no bullshit! I also bought my 92 Softail Custom new and still have and a 03 Buell XB9R ! Love them all but if it came down to it The old Shovel is the keeper! Shovelhead till I’m dead!! Bye the way , that’s a tuff looking ride you have there! Really what it’s about!!
@@zippyindustries The rubbercoated washer goes in first, so that the valve is sealed at the back of the cylinder. You can also leave it out, but it defintely does not belong on top of the piston. Also I had the same issue with the copper washer... it is to big... Best Sven
Yup sprocket reverse, always change spacer with seal. Goop the splines with permatex gear rtv behind sprocket, and the spacer with the id o ring is a good idea...change the small seal also
Choppers are a lot of work aren’t they? Looks like you’re doing a beautiful job and I appreciate you sharing the information. I had my hubs done by star hub pros about 15 years ago and I think they’re due for a regreasing and end play check I wish you were a little bit more detailed on that but I’ll take what I can get 😊. I guess I’m looking for .002 end play…right? Thanks
.002 for new and .004 for used. .006 is the max. This is according to the Harley specs. I setup the axle in a vise and put it all together and then put a dial indicator on top and moved the wheel up and down. That's how another guy did his and it worked pretty well.
Unfortunately not currently. I did start fitting the eBay headers to the Hemi but sadly the shoe is my lowest priority. Any updates I post on my instagram page @zippyindustries
Awesome work man! Curious to why you did the 41mm conversion when you have a full 39mm front end though? Any benefit or do you just prefer the look of the 41mm forks?
Appreciate it. No real benefit that I know of. . Just thought the thicker lowers would suit the front end of the bike better with how wide the tanks are.
Thanks for the video. That bike appears to have a drum brake and you should need the drum specific rebuild kit with the hat piece behind the spring. Tatro Machine has a great video showing the difference. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cc5u5fDVU5M.htmlsi=CHaEvR1aBf0dlmKU
@@zippyindustriesthanks, do you have an email where I can message you directly? I'll be in touch once I have sourced out a triple tree for my front end conversion.
Thanks ,Ray(saddlebagrail) I actually have 5 different spacers to choose from to cover all 4 speed transmission era...41-E77, L77-79, 80-81, 82-85 rear chain and finally 82-85 rear belt spacer
Ride, work on it, repeat. Custom 83 low rider from frame up. Still has issues. I have never truly Hated something that I Love soooo much! A dying breed.
Undecided currently. The left filler is more or less useless so I thought about eliminating it but making it the key switch is a good idea. Maybe keep the cap and take it off and the key is underneath. 🤔
You're obviously on a learning journey here, and stay the course as we all had to start somewhere. For your tranny, you can put a long shaft in your current tranny. Harley had four tranny main shaft lengths through the four speeds. You can long shaft a pan/knuckle tranny if that's what you need to get your drive train alignment correct for your motor sprocket shaft and not have to mess with the tranny plate. Best of luck.
@@zippyindustries Gotcha, thought I heard you in the video discussing trading trannies with a friend to get the right shaft length to line up the drive train. Regardless, if you haven't already, Lowbrow has a video where the late Frank Kaisler from four aces cycles walks through tearing down and rebuilding the four speed. It was invaluable to me for learning how to maintain these, fix seal leaks, etc. Cheers on your journey.
