Earlier in the season, Buffy said she wanted her moment as the top girl of high school. But all her slayer duties almost made it look like won't happen. HERE, she's getting her moment to shine as BOTH. Amazing, chef's kiss.

When this episode came out in 99, I was living in the 4th most dangerous city in California. I'm from the County that birthed Snoop, N.W.A., Nipsey Hussle, Kendrick Lamar, Dawg Pound Ganxta Crip, Westside Connection, Death Row, all the Bloods Crips Vatos and Asian Gangs, etc etc... ...and this episode quieted the toughest bruthas on our block. I oughtta know, my 14 black belts and single handed demolition of some of the rowdier ganxta and corrupt cop elements in our area made me one of those toughest bruthas. I was chillin with 6 other elite trained most dangerous of dangerous bruthas in my crew when this episode came on. We almost turned the channel at the start of this episode, but my gf wasn't having any. And if you value your peace and your life? You don't cross a Black woman in her house. Especially about anything she calls:"...one of my shows!" Glad she stopped us. When this part...this speech...happened, we bruthas looked at each other. Silent communication of something significant was happening. Real recognize real. Respect.
I love that Giles lets Buffy, someone with limited official employment experience and less familiarity with the offical terms, to make sure he gets retroactive pay for all the time he's worked with her. xD SO GOOD.
And to think, if Joss and the writers hadn't screwed up her storyline so badly, Faith could've not been used as a one-off "fallen good guy" and actually been there to help. The Chosen Two.
I Think is scene is connected to the season 3 finale at graduation day. Here she finds out her whole class noticed her heroics and are grateful to her for them. Then 2 episodes later she turns her graduation class into an army to fight the mayor. Without this ‘class protector’ moment during the prom then the army scene wouldn’t make sense, and wouldn’t be believable. Because of the class protector thing we know that her class will trust her about the danger they’re in and follow her instructions.
Buffy wanted 1 thing and that was to be remembered at the school. Even though Cordelia forgot to tell her about class pictures(don't get me started on how there would have been posters in the halls and mentioned MANY time on morning announcements). In the end they know her and will always remember her.
It is impossible to explain to someone that has not watched all of the Episodes of BTVS how touching and beautiful this scene is. No way to tell a non fan how thinking about a simple multi colored umbrella awarded at a high school prom can make a grown man or woman stop…. Pause and think… cast their eyes upwards in memory… and then smile. One of the most heartwarming and wonderfully sentimental moments in entertainment history. Could watch this daily and not grow tired.
I just realized Willow was offended by “witch stuff” because she thought Buffy meant magic + dating Tara or associated both under taboo 🤣💀 otherwise she would’ve said witchcraft or so hahaha
This was one of Dawn's best moments. She gets so much hate for her character being annoying. But that was the point - shes the teen little sister. Most of us were in Buffys shoes as the older sibling, or the opposite and always felt left out as the younger one. I being the latter. But in this moment Dawn had to be the big sister and save Buffy. If Dawn hadn't decided to end the spell when she did and Joyce had actually coke back home - it wouldn't have been Joyce and Buffy would have had to kill a zombie version of their mother. From which idk if she could recover. Idk how she did after Angel. But this would have absolutely killed her if she had had to kill an undead Joyce. And we know she would have done it. She would never let anything happen to Dawn - even if it meant slaying an undead version of her mother. But it would have killed her inside. I truly don't think she woukd have recovered of that had been how this played out and Dawn didn't tear the photo up. Dawn saved them all. And yes I know this was her doing in the first place but she did the right thing which was the hardest. I'd give anything to bring my dad back, but he wouldn't be the same and I grew so much as a result of losing him. Everything happens for a reason

What makes this even cooler is that what Quentin was trying to pull is *exactly* what a certain kind of mean-spirited upper-class Brit does… very ‘politely’ but awfully and manipulatively try to ‘put someone in their place’ via disapproval and well-rehearsed scorn. It’s great the moment that Buffy sees right through it. 👍
I will never forgive them how they trivialized Jonathans death. And how they punished Faith relentlessly for every misbehavior and let Andrew from the hook for unspeakable crimes.
