Don't get me wrong here, These were my teen years and best years to collect cards but value wise unless the emotional one there is not much. These are beyond easy to find. Very often these as mint as you can find them sets will cost you 60-150$ a set. In Canada and specially in Hockey town Montreal where even the birds,,were collecting back then. Hockey was a religion there. Rookies like Bourque,Messier as to be at least graded 7 to be worthy. Again its an hobby and always will be an hobby. Last season Howe card and Dryden(Gretzky rookie year)-graded 8(maximum grade you will get for cards of that years)will sell for like 100$. For the value unless you find gold in garage sales and markets from ignorants sellers at dirt cheap prices you will just end out paying what a card worth. Again fantastic years. But ain't the 50s-60s-early 70s.
Just came across your channel. Enjoyed the video, rather informative. I’ve been looking into some of the cards you showed. I will have to watch again to see if I missed anything. I think hockey cards are a bit underrated, especially in the states.
As Ovechkin inches closer to Gretzkys goal record there’s a chance he could pass it but I worry about the biggest threat to Ovechkin now, the random chance circumstance of life’s karma. There’s a million difference ways Ovechkin could reach it, however there are also a million different ways he could not. he could get a career threatening injury, get Covid which damages his lungs, get an illness, something happen outside hockey forces retirement. Many different things could happen and it’s these risks of life that prevented Lemieux or even Orr from obtaining more points. Let’s see how it progresses. The biggest question one must ask is does Ovechkin have the same LIFE LUCK Gretzky had? It would be a shame for Ovechkin to come this far just to have it all collapse by a setback but barring that he should break the record.
12 in his first 14 games so far this season. If he gets 50 this season it takes him to 780. He will then need 28.5 goals per season over the last 4 years of his contract to tie Gretzky at 894 goals.
I've got lots of these cards well 87 and to like 93 my dad got the box sets for me when I was a kid still got em so cheap back then I even got that kobe rookie
Great video and breakdown. I just picked up a SP FWA PSA 10 so I will be rooting hard for Ovi to break the record!! I plan on adding more Young Guns in various grade levels and I don't think you can go wrong long term with any of his rookie cards.
Nice to add those slabbed rookies to your collection! So many iconic HOF rookie cards from the early 90’s! Hope you pull the bloody face error card from the 1990 proset!
Great video and the collection of cards were great. I'm interested in speaking with you off line to see if you are interested in selling my cards on consignment. Send me a note if interested.
Love this collection. I have everything from 89-92. Would love to have some of these older rookies. Thanks for sharing. Might make it my mission to get a few of these.
I have a Parkhurst rookie of Ovie.. I bought it for around 70-80 dollars Canadian... I strongly believe that in time that card will hold significant value like any rookie of him,
Love the break down. As an Ovie rookie collector since 2005, I think your analysis is spot on. I took a more conservative "Even if" approach. Even if his production drops by another 20% under your numbers and he has to play for another year, he still gets the record. The bottom line, as long as he stays healthy, the record is his for the taking. Here are my top recommended "Rookie" card count down, that every Ovechkin collector/investor must have.
