hello, where in Canada? love your french accent🙂(I could be wrong 😅) do you think I can leave it outside (Montreal) until the first snow, or do I have to transfer it to a warmer location (like indoors on a shelf near a window) ? thanks for the video👍
How yo care it?... My northiana stopped making pitchers 😥

@@namdiep3982 typical lowland conditions, not too much light (otherwise some dots appear on the leaves), and stable conditions. Make sure the conditions are quite stable; some have reported this species is quite sensitive to changes. Also, I would make sure the media is still OK. Maybe it needs a repot?
just got my first tent with almost the exact same temperatures (although im using freedom units *CAW*), do you think something like sphathulata x hamata would adapt?
2 месяца назад
@@meep8212 Yes, for sure. My spathulata × hamata is doing fine! I even made a cutting recently.
Perfect! It was a gift and I wanted to be sure it wouldn’t die even in lowland conditions, thank you!

Oh, my apologies, I thought you left this comment on one of my highland tent video. I don’t know if N. spathulata × hamata would adapt to LL conditions. My guess is it will stunt its growth after a while.
This is beautiful. Unfortunately, Northiana is very expenssive I my country, but I will aquire one for myself one day, when I feel confident enough of my Nepenthes care habilities.
Salut!

To be honest, these days they haven’t been growing as fast as they should have. I believe I’m giving them too much light. Normally their growth rate is average, with hybrids growing faster than pure species, just like Nepenthes.
I'm interested in learning more about dormancy in a garage. I live in zone 6. Temperatures can drop to -10F/-23C. Do you add mulch as well to protect the plants?
5 месяцев назад
I live close to Toronto, Ontario, but my garage is attached to my house, thus it stays close to freezing temperature in the winter, even if it’s -20°C outside. I do not add mulch, but larger pots may help protect the roots from the cold.
Awesome collection. I have just gotten my first Nepenthes I have three of them. N St Gaya, N ampullaria "Black Miracle" and N Red. Right now I have them on a sunpad for heat and in a vented humidity dome for humidity seems to work great for now, until I can get my tent or mini greenhouse set up undecided on what I want. Thanks for the video

Thank you! Good luck with setting up your new tent or mini greenhouse! These plants can outgrow a humidity dome pretty quickly if they’re happy! 😉
I just brought my plant down from the loft / attic. Most of the plant was black apart from one or two green traps and some green stems coming up out of the soil. Unfortunately the green traps don’t respond anymore when I try to feed them (I only brought them out a couple days ago) so those traps are obviously dead (yet still green and actually look healthy, mouths open, a fairly strong red colour inside the traps etc, but stiff and unresponsive). Is this normal behaviour immediately out of dormancy? If those green traps are indeed dead, would it help / make any difference if I just cut the whole thing back down to just above the soil to free up space and allow light to get in? Like just straight up buzz-cut the whole thing or…? As you may have noticed… plants *in general* are a new thing for me…

I wouldn’t worry about the old traps not reacting/closing on a dormant plant. Even when they do close, they are generally very slow on dormant plants. I wouldn’t consider the trap as “dead” though. If they’re green, they can be useful for photosynthesis. Cutting them could make it worse. Instead, make sure to trim any dead ones (the black leaves and traps).
Really love the ampullaria.... but, don't know if they will thrive in my windowsill. What is the most "easyist" by your experience?
7 месяцев назад
I would target hybrids first. If you browse the channel @WindowsillNepenthes you should find a video there where Rémy talks about which Nepenthes are best for windowsills. That being said, if you love N. ampullaria, you could give it a try. It is not too picky with light (low light is fine), but it does need high humidity and warm to hot temperatures.
17:00 Maybe set a T5 light tube on the top can do something
7 месяцев назад
Yes, that would probably help. I would just need to monitor the additional heat, and may want to go with an LED T5 just for that reason. I have a 4ft one in my highland tent that I really like.
I came here again in 2024 to listen your beautiful melody playing. I have a question. I am very much fascinated with this combi. Is it possible to do the same settings with Triton Le? I have Le and Korg Foot Controller XVP-10. Please suggest a solution.

Unfortunately, I’ve never used the Triton Le, so I really couldn’t say.
Love the LL updates! I'm growing lowlanders with intermediates... Do you use a different potting mix for your lowlanders and highlanders or all the same?
7 месяцев назад
Most of them are in the same mix of LFS/perlite, but I make some exceptions sometimes. For example, I added some peat for my bical, as it is one of the rare Nepenthes that sometimes grows in bogs. I didn’t add too much, as I didn’t want to choke the roots though.
yr northiana looks killer! could you do a video on it with some advice to keep it happy? maybe explain how you repot as well, I have a few sg northiana red from dean cook and they're real divas. especially after a repot.

Thank you! Ok I will move that one up in my list. 🙂
I love the setup! I only have a TINY 2x2x3 highland grow tent that I already filled up 😢. I need to get a way bigger tent soon for once they start to vine. I also need to find a way to heat a lowland setup because of how cold my winter temps are. Maybe just an outdoors greenhouse with humidifier and a space heater in a shaded spot with grow lights? Not sure but I’ll figure something out. Anyway love the bicalcarata!

It really depends where you live. I’m in Ontario, Canada, so outdoor is not an option for lowlanders. 🥶 If you can get something set up inside a house in a room that gets about 20°C (68°F), you should be fine with the LEDs alone for heating.
First off this video is horrible. This guy all he wants to do is talk about his plant where if I were to start making content I would start off with letting you know is this plant suit suitable for your house conditions beside needed conditions, I would explain what med mixes I use, which ones are suitable for it. In my experience with the plant this guy failed to do all of that. These guys are all over the place when you look at their videos, instead of telling them about the simplicity and beauty of it, at a later video, these guys make these damn videos and they failed to tell what needs to be told
I thought he did a good job on this. He discussed the potting mix, lighting, and the characteristics of this species. I found it to be interesting and informative.

Nepenthes attenboroughii grows exceptionally well in pure mineral substrate like (Akadama-)Kanuma-Perlite
9 месяцев назад
Thank you! I checked that again after posting the video and realized I already bought a bag of akadama just for it! I just forgot about it when I was recording. From what I understand, ultramafic species will do well in akadama, and N. attenboroughii is one of those. However I am wondering how to keep the cost low for larger pots that I don’t want to fill with akadama (I’m thinking about my N. rajah x burbidgeae). I don’t have kanuma; I could do 50/50 akadama/perlite, but even that will be a lot of akadama, if I start doing that for many of my plants.
9 месяцев назад
I also want to try Fluval, this media used in aquascaping. Have you tried that?
I have not yet tried fluval stratum, but I know several people had great experiences with it. Yes, I cultivate some species exclusively in mineral substrate, namely N. attenboroughii, N. palawanensis, N. villosa, N. burbidgeae, N. rajah, N. argentii. Some previously thought to be difficult species start to be very handleable with the proper substrate. Kanuma is fairly low cost here, so I mix it 50/50 with Perlite and come down to about 60 cent per litre. Maybe comparing vendors in your area might be the solution! You'll definitely never go back once you switch!

@@acousticanimal5514 Thanks for the advice. This is great! If you have photos of your plants (Instagram account or something like that), don’t hesitate to share. I’d love to see them.
great nep collection, probably the best one i’ve seen yet when it comes to variety. you have everything from my favorite species list except for argentii :)

Thank you very much! It’s true, I don’t have N. argentii… yet! 😉
