Thanks Vihanga for raising this incident up again. It was one of the most memorable events in my life. We batted 1st in this Big match and we were playing the 3rd inning in the 2day evening towards the end of the day. When I was in the dressing room watching the match two or three gentlemen from Dharmaraja came to me (I can’t remember exactly whom but I remember late Mr. Lalith Kapugedara, Kapu's father, was there) and requested to give Kapu a chance to hit 1000 runs. I had no hesitation and I conveyed the massage to the team mates. They had no doubt of giving him that chance. Then I went to get the approval from our Principal Mr. Ranjith Chandrasekara along with the MIC Mr. Padmasiri and they said that it was my choice and gave their blessing. Then we declared the innings soon after, but when it all happened there was only one over left for the close of play. So, as a team we decided to give him the 12 runs he needed, so put 8 slips and mid off and for the first time in the match I bowled that over. The 1st ball beat the bat and I bowled the next ball as a friendly full toss and he smashed that for four. The 3rd ball was a catch to the wicket keeper Minimuthu. He took it and slowly put the ball on the ground and said අයියෝ....😁😁... Then Kapu scored another 8 runs in the 4th and 5th balls and completed the 1000 runs for the season. However, I went to Kapu and said, malli please play the last ball to me and he played a defensive stroke for me to collect the ball myself and I still have that ball with me.
Represented the First Set.Team specially in 1966/1967, with the captaincy of Tissa Jayathilake . As you say I can still remember how Tissa managed us on the Ground as well as outside , specially encouraging me at ball by ball ,resulting me to Achieve the Bowling Record of Taking 8 wkts for 39 at the Battle of the Maroons of 1967. I have no hesitation to say that " Tissa " was the " Best Captain " of ours during our Cricket Career ,hoping All my brother players would stand with me . Finally I take this an opportunity to remember Fondly , the Best Coach of our era ,Mr.Winston Hoole, May him RIP 🙏 !!! KFE 💕💖 !!!
Vihanga aiya, correct me if I'm wrong but I think even on the rehearsals we do not announce the exact winners of these 3 shields right? Just to keep the enthusiasm for the day of the prize giving. By the way, awesome job with the channel. Learning a lot about Kingswood and great to see you sharing the knowledge you have on Kingswood like this. Kushan.
I am only familiar with academic books on Sri Lankan Lit. There are several books - search for authors like DCRA Goonetileke, Wilfred Jayasuriya, Maryse Jayasuriya. Also search for individual articles -- You may find more by searching for articles than books.
Books ON Sri Lankan writing (as in critical literature) --- Search for these names: DCRA Goonetilleke, Maryse Jayasuriya, SW (Walter) Perera, Ruvani Ranasinha, Minoli Salgado. To begin with.
I have nearly all the novels and biographies mentioned here except Wijesinghe's and Perera's. Shavindra Fernando's book covers my four years at Pera. He was a year senior to me. However, I couldn't continue to read it after a few chapters. Miniwan Thilakaratne has written a novel about Kelaniya titled කන්දෙන් ලන්දට and it's full of sarcasm about the university system. You missed it probably because there isn't an English translation. There's also මගේ නඩුව ඉවරයි by Sarath Wijesuriya of Colombo University.
