I am gradually uploading copies of video taken on the railways of the united kingdom and abroad from 1987 up to the current time. this will take some time to complete as there are many hours to upload. I will put them up in a more random order as some are easier to upload than others but when they are all on I will number them so they can be viewed in sequence. Where I know the identity of locos and units I will put notes on screen in time as well
Great video. Need a job done? You need a 33. They were the best. 5:14 that wee boy. The wonder and joy. I suppose train enthusiasts are still about but there isn’t the variety of traction or any grisly old locos like this lot anymore. Kids love the dust and dirt and noise. I never saw a peak I don’t think, such beasts, although I went to York on a 125 in 1982 so I likely did see a Peak there. Those 2-car metrobus things looked godawful 😂 a ride like.. well… a bus.
The drain really was horrible 0:05 1:05 is that unusual? I don’t remember seeing such a mix. Stock movement just? 6:20 is wonderfully atmospheric!! BR in the rain. It’s how its meant to be remembered 😂 10:27 there’s a great heritage shot. Wow. Never did see a 26 in operation Being a southern region person Dorking/Waterloo/Victoria mostly I never saw the 8x class locos working (except my Lima OO gauge 87 😂). Or if we travelled up north alongside the M1 if I was lucky. I had no idea they were so noisy!! My goodness look at those carriages rock 17:56 (almost oscillating!) that’s some old track there!!! It’s hard to watch this wonderful video and not yearn for those days. Just so busy and varied and wonderfully grubby and noisy. It’s the reason we all loved trains.
A fair old drop in the variations of rolling stock in particular at London Bridge (though plenty of different livery!). Homogenisation was well under way by now. SUCH a difference from your 1987 films!
0:28 where are you for this? Flagrantly breaking any number of H&s rules 😂 4:10 the beginning of the end. Almost all trains seem to look like these now 😞 Is that 71 still running?
1:15 there’s a lucky catch!!! I grew up in Dorking and at this time was travelling through Clapham Jn a lot to visit London. Mainly for HMV! There was a bell like that at Redhill for the Redhill-Tonbridge line. Utterly infuriating!! 😅 someone filming back then would’ve been the exception not the rule, and you wouldn’t have been able to be covert with one of those VHS things on your shoulder (unless you had the mini-tape? That had a converter I seem to remember!) 5:41 these felt SO modern. I remember their predecessors arriving in about 1981 and the smell of rubber from the doors. They didn’t age well! The nighttime stuff is wonderful. Would that brake van/guards van 22:15 have still been in actual use or was it just sort of there for the sake? Thanks for posting.
very rare spot @0:25 - a XC (used to be called NE-SW) HST set being loco-hauled with a b/g Mk2 BSO as the front match coach. then TF, TRSB, 4xTS, TGS with ADB975325 (HST Generator Van) at the back. Never realised the Genny Van got Inter-City livery.
Class 37 was my favourite locomotive when I was a fireman out of eastfield traction depot Glasgow 1974 if I was on shift with my uncle Jim Matthew he used to let me drive part of the west highland line from queen street station to Oban
Oh my days. Thanks for up loading this. Happy memories for me especially when I saw loco 47 406 Rail Riders!!! My dear, late father always got me membership to that club. These were the days when he and I were serious train spotters!!!
I can't believe this video neglected to show us that DMU that came into Chester, made up pf several different classes. I was gutted about that but otherwise a great video.
Great capture. I rekon this could be around July 1989 judging by the liveries of stuff. Nice to see the oil empties from Langley to Robeston at start, the 6B08 12.15 saturday only i think. Quite sure the loco's are 37294 and 37078 (not long been repainted at CF into another blue, previously had TE white and orange cantrail strips, then painted into Rf petroleum 12.89 during overhaul) on the front. Then @2:37 37235 on the HEA wagons returning empty to Didcot from either Bow or West Drayton. Looks like 47814 @19:00 also, the early period of 47/4 renumberings to 478XX.
