My father was on the band member committee that gave the UT band its name! I guess that would have been in the late 40s or early 50s! He played trombone, and later went into radio!

The year before I donned the uniform and stepped onto Shields-Watkins Field. I knew plenty of good people who told me that was a challenging show, very cold time of year.
I marched in this show! That was a notable year, what with the opening ceremony of the Thompson-Boling Arena (I played in that ceremony as well) and the updates to Neyland Stadium.

Going back and looking at this, it's kind of stunning how much has changed in Pregame since then. Onto the field, Rocky Top, and the T are still largely the same, but the 'B' and 'D' pages are completely different now. I was in the POTSMB from 1988 to 91, and this is basically the pregame I marched.
Yeah. I marched 2015-2018 and probably less than 1/2 of it is the same or really close. To me, the core, essential stuff is still there. Spirals is the same. Chart 2 is the same. Interlocking T for Rocky Top with the half time step is the same. So that is cool. For A-D page, they added Tennessee River and Mountain Music. Then pretty sure E page for us was Vol flash step to make the Power T and then Mountain Music again, F page is Stars and Stripes Forever then Fight Vols Fight, DTF to open the T. We didn’t play the Tennessee Waltz March, that’s after we make that interlocking T at the end of halftime.
As a 15 year old I was at this game and with my younger brother - so many memories of Big Orange Football - now as a 50 year old father my daughter will be attending there this fall - I hope she has as many great games to witness as I did - I saw so many great players there - Hershel Walker/Bo Jackson/Marcus Allen/Peyton Manning/Reggie White are some of the Greats but so many others - here is hoping that the Vols will rise again to national prominence
I marched that day in the FREEZING cold! So glad to salute the President and Vice President back in 1997. I feel sorry for anyone who had to march in a parade for the current, gutless, filth at 1600 Pennsylvania. Donnie is not a President, he is a tyrant. May God have mercy on him for what he’s done to this Nation.
