Ah! I have two MTP-AV's the newer one also incorporates USB. The newer one has 6 screws like the one shown here. The older (no USB) has the two side screws as was expected by VeganSynths
at 3:29 be careful dropping anything conductive inside an open circuit board. That metal port can short a component and wreck your device. And yes even if it’s not plugged in.
My JD all of a sudden has certain keys that don’t sound. There’s a pattern of six good then two won’t play. This repeats all the way up. Is this the kind of keybed failure you experienced with this ribbon connection problem?
I don’t remember it being that consistent. I just had a majority of the keys that wouldn’t play. That said, if you see in the video the terrible flaw in the connecting ribbon, it wouldn’t surprise me if it were the case.
Nice overview. I have six boutiques and totally agree that the SH-01A is the best one. The emulation is nearly flawless. Purists will always claim every digital emulation sounds "nothing like the original", which is almost always a wild exaggeration, but there usually are differences, especially at extreme settings. However, in this case they really did nail it. It's amazingly close, and just like the original, it sounds incredible no matter what you do with it. This is one of the most useful pieces of gear in my studio. It finds a place in every track.
cool! Also rubbing alcohol on a q-tip is a great way to clean these - alcohol evaporates and won't damage your unit.. Another way is a brand new #2 pencil with a unused eraser...because the eraser is gritty it takes off the carbon (if you can get it in there) ...then canned air. But of course you got it done.
I got mine from Roland directly. I called them and they still had some. This was a few years back now and also, it was Roland US that I called. Not sure if they still carry it.
Whatever happened to VeganSynths? Is he still out there ineficiantly repairing old synths? Did he make it through 2020 intact? His voice and content are oddly soothing like a David Sedaris audiobook. Some say he was an uncelebrated peak in RU-vid between May - July 2018. Some say he'll return one day with another video. Maybe bumble around a bit, maybe do another comparison video. Nobody can say for sure.
Sh-01A is better deal than sh-101, but sound is not there original got something different in filter going on. So I suggest to get SH-01a then original even if sound is a bit to sharp I would say, but main thing is that you can clock it with other gear and thats big +
Ótimo trabalho meu caro amigo, estou com um jd aqui no Brasil é preciso trocar a régua de contato. Mas é difícil encontrar uma. Neste caso você usou a régua de contato do u20?
norman bates yes! Check the back of your Yamaha Keyboard for a MIDI output. Acquire a midi cable and connect the output of your Yamaha to the midi IN of your SH01a. Hope that helps!
How in the actual HECK do you only have 90 subscribers?!?! 🤦♂️ Fantastic job on this comparison. Seriously. My favorite channel to watch synth reviews, tutorials, and 'tips & tricks' is loopop. But I'll tell you what; half way through this video I subbed with all notifications, about to checkout part 2 from you, and I'll be checking out your other uploads promptly. Really great info you choose to use in the video and especially the ending explanation. 👍 Thank you for the video. Cheers! -H.B.
How can we really know our synths are vegan though? I have got rid of all my animal based instruments (except one drum no one will take but I have someone interested).
mick singh I got it from Roland directly. Call the corporate offices and ask for parts and repair. I think I’ve put the part number in the comments below. If not I can find them again
Hi I've tried ringing that number.. No one answering... I have a proposition for you... If I could get the money to you for that part would it be possible to arrange purchase and postage to the UK... My jd had been with me for a long time... Needs to be saved... Cheers
Just bought a sh01A , and I’m very impressed with this synth it will be even better when my km25 comes .ive owned jp08 sold it to fiddly, ju06 not to keen on the sequencer but sounded great still sold it , I’ve kept tr08 and 09 they sound great and look great. Not overly fussed about 03 as it’s not quite there with sounding like the 303 it’s not got the liquidy acid fizz looseness that the 303 had, not fussed about d05 or jp03 .but sh01A is a beast it’s the only one the I look forward to using, as a previous RU-vid subscriber said “it’s hard to make the sh101 sound bad” true true.... it always sounds good
The only issue I have with these boutiques is the noise you get when using usb so if you are using more than one then that noise can build up and its quite irritating. Its great that you can record via usb but when using live its surely an issue if you have several of these making that much background interference?
@@maccagrabme For whatever reason, I don't have that problem. I've heard lots of people complain about it, so I'm sure it's real, but in my case I have six boutiques and a System-8, all using USB audio, and they all have literally zero noise. They're all connected to powered hubs, but it could be down to the design of your computer itself. I'm using a late 2015 iMac. A few suggestions: Try a powered hub; if you already have one, try a different one. Don't bother with ferrite clamps on USB cables - it won't help (they filter out frequencies that are way beyond the audible spectrum). Finally, you have the option of using battery power even when connected by USB, which some people say eliminates the problem. In the case of the SH-01A, hold down the 7 button while turning on the power to force battery power mode.
I called the Roland Parts and Service department at (323) 890-3771. Parts and Service is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm Pacific Time. The Part Number is 22935230. Best of luck!
Thanks for the extra info. Great video, too. I tried repairing a few different ways, tried another green strip, tried 3D printing a part I found on GS and soldering wires, tried some expensive conductive adhesive... nothing has worked right to fix or bypass the connection between that blue ribbon and the green strip. I had called Roland before all of this and they were having none of that. Told me to contact a local certified repair shop. The shop told me their guy had just quit so I gave up on that route. Prob time to try again. In the meantime, I'll just watch your vids.
