I'm interested in starting to reload .308, I thank you for this video. It gives me a good idea of the prosses, I've never reloaded, this will be my initiation. I'm a bit ocd and I have an Idea to make sure we don't double powder. It's an extra step, but checking on the scale before seating bullet may be an Idea ?

I perform visual check of powder now but having an extra step wouldn’t hurt.

What decocker? You mentioned the safety is a combination safety/decocker, so if you charge the slide.... the firing pin slide red is showing.... can you decock and release the firing pin with the safety / decocker?? Or is it like the other taurus guns that is only good to fire on a round that failed to fire with no way todecock on a round already in the chamber?

I’ve seen a guy shoot a mile with a plain old simple factory build Savage arms A1 tactical rifle chambered in 308 a lot of people think you need all of this and that but men were making long shots like that in Vietnam with stuff that is way less tactical and basic shitty scopes yeah depends on Atmospherics, wind, climate, heat, altitude, and cross winds, also need basic trig on the fly for sone shots like That. But people tend to make it a lot harder then it is. Sometimes it’s just about trying it until you make it. Of course it depends on what your rifle is chambered in but a 308 win definitely can shoot and hit a target a mile away.

For me as a beginner in reloading .308win it's just the right way of explaining, thanks! One question: Which OAL did you choose for the used A-MAX bullet? For a Nosler bullet (168gn, HP) I use 71mm. When using the A-MAX-bullet (which is about 2mm longer) I wonder if I should keep the OAL of 71mm (and therefor set the bullet deeper), or keep the setting-depth (and thereby exceed the OAL)?
@McLarenDriver
@McLarenDriver 2 года назад
I have changed my approach when developing loads and now start with copying the most accurate load my loading manual suggests with the powder available to me and go from there.
@ecleveland1
@ecleveland1 Год назад
Measure your max magazine length. Measure the headspace in your rifle. You can start with the recommended OAL in the loading books. I modified my magazine length to accommodate the OAL of my most accurate round. For me, it's the measurement to the ogive that I'm concerned with. My OAL is much longer than the published specs. I always make sure my pressure is good when I'm developing a round. After I decide on the powder I adjust the seating depth off the lands until I get my best consistent groups. Trying to handload using an OAL from the tip of the bullet is way too inconsistent. Measuing to the ogive will give you much more consistent high-quality ammo.

Question here please. I m looking to do reloads for my .308 caliber. Your videos looks very great tutorial but I'm still co fused abit. Is that exactly everything I need to make my. 308 , and what are the names of all the products you using here and last can you do reloads on another cali er or is this just for 308, forgot to ask how much space do you actually need and does the press machine needs to be level or is it mobile that you can put away
@McLarenDriver
@McLarenDriver 2 года назад
When it comes to equipment: those are basic tools you need. Stores sell kits that will give you everything you need to start but I would recommend buying pieces yourself. Good press is a must, don’t go cheap there. Press can be mobile but the table it is mounted on must be sturdy, no flexing. To reload different calibers you would need die sets and different powder, bullet choice.
@SuAmigoElilegal
@SuAmigoElilegal 2 года назад
@@McLarenDriver is it really that cheap to make ur own ammo. I meant i have to spend all this good product prob about 700 tops for good kit I belive . Pls buying ammunition supplies. I only my 308 some days. I'm not a hunter I just take it to the range for fun day Sunday so 20 round on my bolt action. Is enough for a day. But I'm thinking about building an ar10 so that was my concert on buying this kit
@McLarenDriver
@McLarenDriver 2 года назад
@@SuAmigoElilegal it takes a lot of shooting to make it worth the money. Reloading multiple calibers, pistol ammo and hunting make it a good deal in the long run. Ammo is so expensive today that it’s easier to justify the reloading

This guy wants to shoot at 800 yards with an Accubond, and he thinks Nosler sucks? Hahahahaha, sorry pal, but you got no business hunting at 800 yards or beyond, because you're no where near proficient enough to be doing this.Accubonds and Partitions are designed to be hunting rounds, and no one should be hunting past 400 yards. If you don't know how to stalk and get closer to your game target, you got no business hunting.

The accubond LR bullets doesn't make any sense to me. Its a "bonded long range bullet" in which bonded works great for high impact velocities, but at long range... impact velocities drop dramatically in which bonded bullets don't expand very well. I'd rather use an eldx or vld for long range hunting.

@@McLarenDriver Thanks! I just picked up the Ridge in 300wm and didn't remember seeing the shims. It was a little tossed around in the box though, even the thread protector was off and jammed into the Styrofoam... I did put a break on it right away and discovered the threading was slightly smaller in diameter then 5/8. It had a very slight wobble on the break all the way to being seated. Not sure I was thrilled about that. It was a Surefire SOCOM break and I have used many in the past and never had a sizing issue. I used rocktite and shims to time it on and torqued it to 25-30 ft lbs. I assume it is fine but still, not what you would expect.
