The acting here is absolutely spectacular from all 3 of them. It’s so natural that it feels like we the audience are spying on a fight between 3 real people.
Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are two of the best actors of this century. They both are so natural and realistic in all their performances; you always believe them in every role they play, be it galactic rebels, werewolves, spirits, or just regular guys. The power they have is insane - just look at how Star Wars and Marvel were both falling apart before they each did a show that was one of the greatest of either of those franchises. I dare say the entertainment industry as a whole would be a lot worse off if it weren’t for these two.
I was 12 when this movie passed on the Tv one Saturday, It really got me hooked, after it was over I was singing and humming all over the house and the melody of the song stuck with me for several days. That was the only time I saw the movie. I’m 22 now and listening to this song today I relived that rush of joy and euphoria I felt back then, it’s crazy how I haven’t seen or thought about it once in 10 years and now my memory just got unlocked to the point where I almost could see every detail of the room I was in, the clothes I wore and that it was that one Saturday I skipped going to a french lesson at the Alliance Française. Just a story I share. My day is made!
I think this conversation encapsulates the film’s ideas about “sex vs love” in a nutshell. The boys just want to know about her sex life. They don’t ask “who was your first love?” Sex is all they think about. But through the details, Luisa winds up revealing a much deeper love story. Sex was just one part of her relationship with that guy; they did more than that. They also spent a lot of quality time on dates, had shared dreams, etc. It was about love, not just sex. The boys still don’t fully grasp this, assuming Jano “stole her away” by being better at sex, until she drops the bomb that she lost her love in a tragedy. It’s an eye-opening moment for them, though a subtle one. There is an echo of this later on in the script - after spending most of the movie focusing on nothing deeper than sex, the famous kiss between Tenoch and Julio is described as “a kiss of love, the only one in the entire film.”
1 year ago i watched the whole movie and my dad got home and i was crying He asked me: honey why are u crying had something bad happened I answered him: Pepinot got adopted by his teacher cuz his mum and dad died during the ww2
if there’s one thing we poor people can’t afford to have its an addiction. stay the fuck away from drugs. you want a momentary relief from all your problems talk to a friend, go for a walk, go to a nice restaurant and get yourself some food that 20 dollars for a plate and drink is cheaper than a vice i promise you that
"You like the water? I'm going to introduce you to this fire" -Kevin to Chrion This quote serves as a double entendre While Kevin was supposedly talking about the weed in the blunt, let' remember how much water helps to represent Chiron. Kevin saying he was going to introduce "fire" to water was a comment on Kevin introducing himself to Chiron & also introducing Chiron to himself. The dialogue on this movie is perfect. Furthermore, water & fire are perfect opposites & you know what they say about opposites attracting...
Kevin getting Chiron to talk is a call back to Theresa also coaxing Chiron to speak... beautiful. This movie has so many different emotions all at once
