I traveled back to the 70s... It reminds me why I was broken into so many pieces.

Miles ahead of their time. This is like a hybrid of the best of Bowie, The Cure and Kraftwerk with superbly evocative, otherworldly truly poetic lyrics and an interesting structure built over an equally as appealing melody. Despite it being presented here in the context of its time, it somehow transcends categorisation within any specific genre and instead stands timeless, which is what great examples of the best art will always do and as yet another example of the sad fact that the best of all art is sometimes entriely overlooked by the mainstream. No wonder the powerful and exciting energy of the period inspired Richard Lowenstein to attempt to recreate it within his film 'Dogs in Space' in which Michael Hutchence plays the lead character, Sam, who is based upon the lead singer and chief songwriter of this very group, The Ears. (and recreate the mayhem, mystery and mystique of it, Lowestein did very well too!) If you haven't read Sam Sejavka's dairy entries from the period in which the film occurs, you can find them kindly shared on his blog where they make for that part of the movie that, without them as a narration, it seems somehow lacking. I'd love to see a contemporary digital revision of the film (like the director's narrated version of DVD's which were popularly common when they dominated the market) wherein Sejavka might be permitted to personally narrate these diary entries over the action, which would make for an Australian cultural filmic gem be be enhanced like it was placed in direct sunlight. sailsofoblivion.blogspot.com/2008/01/25-march-1981-thurs-230pm.html

Split Enz has that brilliant instrumental at 2:45 which Kennedy's version lacks. Enz wins.

The Angels are one of my favourite bands of the 80s. Bands in the 70s & 80s were the best bands of all time in Australia. Genuine rock songs were written by the band members except for a couple of covers. Bands in pubs, free, loud, fights, crowds, no cover charge just live raw Aussie music. It was the time to be young. Bands like the Angels the Oils Chisel, they made the scene wild and alive on Friday and Saturday nights. Miss those days. Now music is weak, pathetic, whiny and soulless. Thank God for CDs and Spotify.

This contest is not fair, because you posted both songs in different sound-quality. The version of the Mixtures here is louder, with more bass and hd. Please load up the version of Mungo Jerry in better quality and with more bass! For my taste both recordings are great. To be fair, the Mixtures are the original artists of the song. But they were heavily influenced here by the typical Mungo Jerry-style, which was outstanding in 1970. Most people were thinking it was the new single of Mungo, hearing it the first time in the radio. For my taste the sound in the original recording would be only "round" with the voice of Mr. Mungo Jerry Ray Dorset: A mix of both recordings!
