Now that these cars have been moved to India for the complete manufacturing, they are owned by Tata of India. India will now take the blame for any issues and the businesses will suffer to the point of insolvency. I owned the L405 I learned from snooping yhe famous meridian stereo was nothing more that" FoMoCo" stamped all over the eqiptment. FORD makes most of the parts. Ala Navigator.
Wouldn’t surprise me that the manufacturer’s are doin this on purpose, making as much as possible in spares and sales before all they,ll sell you is an ev , fords wet belt another genius idea ! They just want your money, customer service is out the window , manufacturers and dealers are lower than whale shit
It's absolutely crazy how people are being conned into the perception that new or cleaner I better. The world is moving towards a new period of producing goods that need to be replaced. Just think about that. If we wanted to save the planet, then goods would be made to last with minimal repairs. I am taking any goods purchased. Wake up the world evolves around you continually spending money any spin around this is bullshit !!
the only thing that works with Land Rover is the marketing ,,,, the car its self is pure junk , but I think land rover could build a decent product but like many others they are trying to meet near impossible emission regulations , long gone are the days of 300k on a tdi 200 with little bother.
Rather than use a duplex type timing chain JLR opted to use a single link variant up until 2019 model year on the ingenious… engine. Now JLR recommends two years or 21k miles between services 😳. So the combination of totality degraded oil and an elastic timing chain combined with a plastic tensioner are a disaster in the making. If you have one of these do more regular oil changes and listen out for a momentary rattle on startup unfortunately most JLR customers appear oblivious and keep on driving with the inevitable occurrence.
The ever present nationalistic pride (common amongst all nations people) makes folks inclined to buy locally manufactured/sounding products. Land Rover product is renown for its quality and reliability issues all around the world, yet due to its effective marketing/styling they continue to sell.
JLR deserve to fail. My wife had a 2015 Discovery Sport, didn’t have any engine issues ( she had the 2.2 Diesel engine which I think is a better engine) but had lots of other annoying faults including a head unit issue which nobody could fix . One JLR specialist reckons that JLR place a 10 year/100,000 miles life expectancy on their engines. Thats pretty grim given how much they cost. My guess is that people will get wise to the issues and stop buying them. We took a £10,000 hit to get rid of her Discovery Sport as we just had no confidence whatsoever in the car. They’re shite as they say up here in Yorkshire 😂
I watch another RU-vid channel in the UK where they only do engine rebuilds. That particular engine keeps their shop busy and prosperous. What a piece of crap 💩!
I think it was the same gearbox I had in a 2015 Leon FR 1.8 tsi. The gearbox was causing warnings to appear on the dashboard you wouldn’t associate with gearbox issues. It was fixed around 50k mark & carried on carefree until it left me around the 90k mark. I can’t remember what it was but the gearbox had to come out & needed something doing to it.
Land Rover have form for this. Remember the disastrous K-Series engine in the Freelander 1? They fitted it for 7 years despite knowing it had serious head gasket issues. The Chinese who bought the tooling to make that engine had the problem fixed in a breath. You can get the upgraded parts now. If you really want a Land Rover product then find an older one with the 2.2 diesel in it.
Land Rover are not the manufacturer that they once were. I have also heard many stories where they have not supported their customer base after purchasing one of their vehicles. Also, I just want to add as a sidenote, Jaguar are not the manufacturer that they once were either. I have to say, Both these manufacturers are a big insult to what they used to be.
I know some one with Land Rover Evoque petrol no bother with it and yet I do believe the diesel unit is a poor engine and suffers a lot of big failures and at big costs, good tip on the Land Rover diesel engine, don't buy one, take care
Its been like this for years. Its not just the Ingenium engines. The Disco 3, Disco 4, Disco 5, RR sport and the FF Range Rover all suffered Engine Failures due to Crank shafts snapping on the 2.7 and 3.0 tdv6/sdv6 engines.
Does anyone know of the actual failure rate of the Ingenium engines? Not disputing that there is an issue, just keen to see the actual metric to separate satisfaction surveys (where JLR always seems to perform poorly vs competitors) from actual reliability. It's a shame, as the new 3.0 inline sixes appear to be performing well in the RRS/RR.
I hate this throwaway society and it's all geared to buying new rather than making old last. I've got a 20yo Volvo and will keep that going as long as I can. This vile attitude of not caring is not only car manufacturers but also any service or brand it seems too. And the planned obsolescence is a fact - a pergect example are all these ridiculous 3 cylinder turbo engines that even Ford has admitted are only designed to last 100k. It's pathetic. Great video
Ok,I’ve owned 5 Range Rovers, still driving two, over the last 10 years and I’ve not had a single engine problem.Im in the US and maybe I got the only five decent ones but what the hell is happening? No manufacturer would be dumb enough to purposely build crap but it’s possible
All new cars must legally have lane assist which corrects your line on the road. Seeing as most EVs are new, they all have to have this flawed technology. My car doesn't seem to understand UK line markings which change so often, and gets confused on unmarked roads. I think this must be contributing to some of the discrepancy.
I'm a bit confused and I'm certainly not defending poor design, manufacture or support. Can you comment on the stories on JLR Forums that an upgraded chain/tensioner/guide was introduced in late 2019? And I think this is the 'preventative' item which you briefly mentioned. Obviously this will be standard issue since that date (2019??). So, are the late 2019 and onwards Ingeniums better? Forum complaints suggest so but you still condemn them all unconditionally. And there are many reports on various JLR Forums, usually 2018 and older, though this may be a mileage thing. And some reports look a little odd and it's impossible to know if they are genuine or fabricated. Other than saying "DPF" you don't stress the problems are diesel which is the biggest seller. You don't mention that, based on Forum reports, faults with the petrol Ingeniums seem rare. And, another preventative measure is ignoring stupid JLR oil service intervals and get it done early. This may also help DPF, EGR etc. and the Evoque, I hear, is worst for this. You mention that the timing chain guide is plastic on metal. Can you show me a modern car which isn't? I've seen some other brands which use plastic/composite. What do Toyota use? Umm, didn't they fairly recently recall 100,000 cars for engine work? A bit more fact-checked research is required but I'm certainly not claiming there aren't faults that shouldn't have happened. You give the impression that ALL Ingeniums will blow up 5 miles after you buy one. I'm not a JLR Fan-Boy (I'm a Mazda fan-boy) but please include some realistic provable statistics into this speech.
Why oh why don't these bloggers ever differentiate between the d250 and p300 in their title?. There are 2 different fuel types of Ingenium engine with vastly different reliability profiles
For the average person stay away from them they will fail . Having said that I buy them from auction salvage auction but and it’s a big but , I’ll tell you what goes wrong with them . First it all these dpf’s they inject diesel on the exhaust stroke and that then run into the oil , increasing the oil and removing its lubrication properties causing either the big end bearings to start eating into the crank or any other critical points. It can also cause the turbo seal to fail and start running on its own oil. Also the timing chains are only one link thick like a bike chain when the used to be 2 links wide only older cars example td5 discovery , any way the chain was not made correctly ones I have seen some links the pin ain’t ain’t rolled over and will just basically come apart when they feel like it . The only reason I have one is the wife wanted one and I have been fixing car since a teenager and well our has now been heavily modified . Dpf removed , that’s what kills the lubrication egr removed chocked the engine up breathing its own fumes. Balance shafts removed another failure point and just pointless add blue removed. Another complete nonsense, an injector on the exhaust spraying basically water. . The full ecu been reprogrammed removing all the government/ globalists devices. Will it run for a while should do since all the failure point been removed. What I have do for myself it’s just time to pay a garage to do that would be fortunes and Some modifications are illegal if used for road use and not many garages would do them as it could get them shut down. It’s all this globalist bullshit co2 lies . If your a guy/or girl that can do what I listed go for it but one from salvage but if your just Joe block and can’t do anything mechanical please do buy one to pay up it will FAIL and your left with a lump of metal that your still have to pay , please don’t buy one. Look at Toyota. It angers me they do this to people . I ain’t rich just know my way round cars. Landrover are living off the reputation of the series Landrovers and the 200tdi and 300 tdis. Not bling but true work horses and noisy that was where they made their name. This stuff look nice but don’t buy unless your a millionaire and buy new and change every 3 years everyone else stay away god even the new defender got this engine in. That’s the truth
I saw on one of the Audi channels the manufacturers are reducing some engine oil pressures to help with emissions ie less internal engine drag, Could this in part be the problem with a lot of engines lately? To meet emissions they do stuff not to the benefit of the customer long term.
You mention consumer rights act as if this is blanket solution to getting your money back. Ironically, a judge *may* well accept that with so much information available on the Internet about their reliability, a consumer *should* be prepared for this type of failure. Also, mileage covered since ownership is significant. Depends on the judge, on the day, however. Precisely the same reason a 3rd party warranty won't cover those mentioned faults.
