what is the answer to situations like these? Somebody is up, somebody is down. Happiness and pleasure in one place, and then misery and tragedy in the other. Why? How? And how do you establish a meeting place between the two? You can't, obviously. But what do you do for the one that's down when you are the one who is up? No easy answer. Maybe no answer.
I like this eye opening video.. birth of a child means 1) pressure on the child 2) pressure on the parents 3) pressure on the environment 4) pressure on the country. WOLVES ARE WORRIED WHY THE SHEEPS ARE BREEDING LESS.
Terrible. The story is poorly represented. The contrast between the good manners and the insensitivity is poorly represented because the manners are really not that good. Also the changes in the tone of the of the story as it moves to the end is not there at all. The political message is punched up to the sacrifice of everything else. An effort to update things to the US in fairly modern times makes it seem like a political message, when it is much more. Read the story. It will take about the same amount of time and the story is a work af genius this is a pale attempt at using that work of genius to make something mediocre.
I still dont quit understand that last part... ok she saw the dead guy, but what? she understand that there are bad things that can happen in life or? Never got that part, maybe because its the psychopath in me that dont feel it?
Wow, this adaptation is significantly different from the original short story. A lot of the themes and ideas are either barely explored or are non-existent. “Little things” such as the linguistics of the Sheridans in contrast to the working class’ are actually significant- yet is completely cut out. And obviously many more such as... where’s Jose?! Perhaps the director or even scholars at the time didn’t recognize the significance of the things they left out, but what’s left is terribly uninteresting. For anyone who chooses to watch this adaptation in place of the short story (especially for academic reasons), I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with the original work. Much of the discussions regarding the story’s themes are prevalent with the written work. You’ll notice distinct differences between the social class’ dialect, the significance of Laura’s acquired hat, Laura aestheticizing reality, and whatever else you’ll hopefully discover for yourself. Despite my opinion on this adaptation, I’m really glad I was able to watch it. Thank you for those who restored this!
Thanks for watching. I wanted to make this film because I was moved by the story. As an American I decided to "adapt" it for America while still keeping what was true and beautiful about Mansfield's story. I moved the setting from England to New England and the time from after WW I to after WW II. Film is a different medium than prose; it works as much by what you see as what is spoken. As the great director Elia Kazan said, "We feel for the skeleton under the skin of the words." So some of the dialogue from the story was abridged or removed. If this is for school, you MUST read the story which is a small masterpiece. It was my hope to capture the story's essence. It is for you to decide to what degree I succeeded.
Could you please tell me where I can found the original story....because me too I noticed that most of themes are missing.....and I really need it because I have exam .....

He stepped out of the shadow. "Is that you, Laura?" "Yes." "Mother was getting anxious. Was it all right?" "Yes, quite. Oh, Laurie!" She took his arm, she pressed up against him. "I say, you're not crying now, are you? asked her brother. Laura shook her head. She was. "You're worthless and weak! You do nothing! You are nothing! You sit in here all day and play that sick, repulsive electric twanger! I carried an M-16 and you! You carry that... that... that... guitar! Who are you! Where do you come from? Are you listening to me!? What do you want to do with your life!?" But what life was she couldn't explain. No matter. He quite understood.
