I began videotaping trains on Colorado's Denver-Pueblo Joint Line in December 1985, with an RCA VHS camcorder. Since then I have filmed trains throughout Colorado, throughout much of the United States, and briefly in England. For many years I used a Panasonic AG-450 Super-VHS “Reporter” camcorder. For the last twenty years, I have been filming using a Canon GL-2. Why have I not upgraded to something more contemporary? The primary reason is that I like filming in the standard definition (4:3) aspect ratio, as opposed to high definition (6:9). Folks think that high def makes the screen larger by expanding the left and right sides. Instead, I think high def cuts off the top and bottom of the screen. Go to any IMAX theatre. Look at the dimensions of the screen. It’s 4:3! I also really like Canon’s GL-2. My passion is for Colorado and Southwest railroads, for the beautiful scenery that they traverse. Much of my latest work has concentrated there.
As a native of Colorado Springs where I grew up and lived for 43 years it was great to see these videos from places i know so well and took thousands of photographs over the years. Now retired living in Spain so the memories are fond and I'm thankful to those who took the videos and for them being compiled and posted. Many thanks for the memories.
7:15 very rare to see a former Metro North GE B23-7 in its latter years. 803 was originally Conrail 1905 in 1978, and then Metro North 803. It was sold in 1993 and became BNSF 4202 C.1999, and now runs as Northern Illinois and Wisconsin 4202
Tell that to RU-vid. Lol! Their algorithm doesn't like that these videos are in SD (standard vs. High def.). I'm glad you found what you're looking for.
Santa Fe and rio grande were my favorites, Burlington northern had a reason to make a merger, but southern pacific made those rio grandes dissapear. Southern pacific merged for no reason. (I think)
@@WaltLoevyActionTrainVideos so what was they reason of why SP merged with rio grande? Were they having the same problem with Santa Fe? Were they going bankrupt?
before big boy was finished, all i could find on you tube was the challengers,,, now , hardly nothing on the challengers. why? I'm so f'n tired of 'what's in" crap. granted, I'm glad big boy was done, but....... i guess 'we' all have to 'fit in' with everyone else. I'm so tired of this lack of mentality
I hauled them out of Amtrak Rennsaeleer Ny to deliver to New England for Triple Crown almost all were Anderson Windows from Wisc. I think the problem was Amtrak wanted updated high speed bogies and nobody wanted to pay for them. Another problem was not all repair crews knew how to fix them so if a problem in transit you had to wait until they found someone who knew what to do.
Man what a peice of history seeing the Atlantic city express and njt. I live along this line and seeing the landscape be different and the old cars make me yearn for that time.
All I got to say is that I really like the MAC style cab on EMD Locomotives. What I would really love to see is an EMD MAC Cowl Unit. If EMD can make a modern Cowl unit (that Adheres to Tier 4 or Zero Emissions) it could be the EMD SDF70MAc-T4/BD (the BD stands for Bio-Diesel)
Museum railroads may or may not have a unit or two in operating condition. I don't think there are any in revenue commuter service since 1992 when Chicago Metra retired theirs. Union Pacific has nos. 949 and 951 for executive business train use.
