In Galiza, the ancient celtic and suevi nation of the Iberic Peninsule there are some Sword Dances too. One of the best known is from Carril. Each year is danced in July, 25 in the party of St. James, the Galician National Day. Regards! Baile Das Espadas, Carril 2011

Haha I wish I was Chantal Watt (red in the middle)... I'm the fairly unimpressive boy on the right with the aqua kilt. On the far side is Dan Carr. Both Chantal and Dan are top placers at the World Championships.

I live in Florida too! I'm a male Highland Dancer and I feel like it gives me the upper hand in competition being a guy. I was put next to two championship dancers from Canada who had to start from Beginner (Which I am) at my first games, and I got 3rd in Sword over the both of them, whom got last places! I was sincerely shocked, considering they creamed us all in everything else. This weekend is the Zephyrhills Highland Games and I'm supposed to be against two other guys!

@MsTwinkletoes769 That's so kind of you! Thanks--although I'm much better than this now. I did pop a toe-stand in the set. Boys never used to, but within the last three or so years, they've started. Not to the extent that the girls do, but one here and there is starting to be common practice.

@4096quagmire Yeh massive quantities of toe stands do tend to be a girl thing. They're slowly creeping into boy choreography too though. In one competition at Worlds in Glasgow this year, I saw five lads do toe stands in their heavy rounds.
