I have three roosters right now, all separate from the hens currently. My oldest boy (Eclipse) is a mix of Faverolle and Jersey Giant so he's pretty big. After only having him with the hens for two weeks he tears their backs up.. does your rooster tear his hens backs up too? I don't know how to prevent it and if its just because hes too big for our hens? We have lots of different breeds but some of them are Amarucanas. Too small?
@pretendfarm
@pretendfarm 7 дней назад
@@bloodshotrose3374 he has a few favorites that sometimes get raw on their back. You can always put saddles on the hens that are taking most of the damage. That was what I did!
@bloodshotrose3374
@bloodshotrose3374 7 дней назад
@@pretendfarm Yes, I do put saddles on them but, 12 of the 14 hens have bald backs from Him. (That is why I have him separate right now, to give the girls a chance to grow them back a bit, and I have two molting.) Should I just limit the time he's out with them? I do give the chickens plenty of protein and they have a lot of space so there shouldn't be any bordem picking.

I heard you say turn lights off around run at night to detour predators? I have solar lights around coop and run which usually go out by 1-2am. But I like to see the area from my window . I really appreciate this video. And the fact that you also did a 1 week a 2 week and a 3 week update on her recovery. That helps a lot other people just upload the video. What they did for the sprain or the injured leg but never do an update so we could see if what they did work. I have a precious little silky. We don't know what's wrong with our leg, but we splintered it. Which is a very young chicken. We're not had to put her in a cradle because she couldn't stand on the leg at all and she was just laying down and she was having trouble eating and drinking because she couldn't get to the food

I've used ivermectin and safeguard for years both work wonderful and you're right the dosing on the bag when they tell you to use a scoop that doesn't exist is pretty frustrating. Awww, I love how you and Pearl have porch time! I don’t think she’ll make it to the table any time soon. 😉I predict she’ll stay as the resident pet turkey. I have a question about baby chicks. How long have your past baby chicks slept in the nest boxes? I have 7 eight week old babies that are on their own, but still sleep in the nesting boxes. I’ve tried putting them on the roosts, but my teenage pullets peck at them, so I haven’t tried to train them any further. Do you think they’ll go up on their own when they’re big enough to defend themselves?
