This is a clip that should be seen by more and taken more seriously. She was so horribly abused, they say. It was a difficult but amazing learning experience, she says.
She did that crying with baseball bat scene so many times that the number of takes is in triple digits. Poor woman. All this for the sake of perfection. Some people would have broken down or would have quit by 50 re-takes.
Nicholson had to have a bat swung at him that many times. Crew had to lug heavy equipment up and down the stairs. It's part of the process and people who worked with Kubrick knew that. The result was worth the effort.
Tarantino was trying to recommend Au Revoir Les Enfants to a customer while working at a video store, but his French pronunciation wasn't great. The guy walked out while saying "yeah buddy I'm not gonna watch a movie called Reservoir Dogs." Tarantino decided that was the best movie title he'd ever heard.
Shelley was soo beautiful! in The Shining but more than anything she plaid the mother in Suburban Commando with Christopher Lloyd, she was absolutely sexy!
A movie is not worth torturing someone. I’m all for the art, but if you want to sacrifice, sacrifice yourself. Don’t expect other people to ruin themselves for the sake of your film
Crying like that every day must have been miserable. I know whenever I have a good cry, I get what I call "cry hangovers" - I get a horrible headache and just feel sick like the flu. Poor gal.
Grew up in a different country and was not exposed to Hollywood movies growing up so I had no idea about this masterpiece. I recently saw The Shining and I couldn't believe Ms. Duvall didn't win an Oscar for her performance. Sometimes we don't know the greatness until after its gone. R.I.P. Shelley.
A devastating line that really encapsulates the character’s sadness and desperation.. Beautiful. A great talent that Hollywood never really appreciated. RIP Rutger Hauer.
"should we play mood music?" such a brilliant jab, gonna have to use that one. She was being hunted by a psychopath with an axe, he needed her to break, beyond what an actor is capable of to make it work.
Shelley is BEAUTIFUL, LOVELY, and so poised. She deserved an Oscar for t hat performance, certianly, without question. NO ONE could have played that part- NO ONE. She is really pretty in a classical way- lovely skin. I htink the 'author' saying all she did was scream and look like an idiot was CRUEL. SHE WAS STELLAR. Kimberly
