I love watching ink swatches, thank you ! The square block is actually nice for that purpose… not everything has to be in circles all the time. 😊 I don’t use the card system myself, I have a collections binder in personal size with 3 sections: pen collection sorted by brand, pen collection sorted by current ink color and ink swatches sorted by color. But since it’s also a ring system, it gives me the same flexibility… 😊 BTW, Pilot offers the Iroshizuku inks in 15ml bottles as well… don‘t know if you can get them in the US, but here in Europe you can buy them at Stilo&Stile. I always go for the 50ml bottles though… the smaller ones are almost half the price of the big ones and contain less than a third of the ink… Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis not so good… 😂 Plus they are my favorite inks, so I use them a lot.
I like the tag idea. Easier to move stuff around. I recently bought a set of swatch cards by Wearingeul that have the Cheshire Cat’s face as a resist so when you ink the card you reveal his grin. Maybe I’ll punch those and put them on a ring. I definitely would write all the ink names in black, but I’d also write some short phrase in the ink itself on each one. The inks can look so different in a big swatch than they do in writing. I am so interested to hear what you think of the Sailor pens. That sale has me extra wanting one - I played with one at the Yoseka Stationery Fest and loved it.
I just swatched all my inks on a variety of those Wearinguel cards (Cheshire Cat, drop, duck, and ink bottle) and put them in the binder they sell by ink color. I wrote the company name and color name with a dip pin for this reason, since the written swatch looks different than the larger swatch.

I decided not to get anything super duper big this year - I just got the Spy x Family cover with the pencil boards and envelopes. Went minimal as I am going with a different planner system for 2025 :) But...my gosh, I love all the neutral cream colors on the inside of the elephan cover. Very lovely! Thanks for sharing!
The five year cover does settle on eventually. I put a Kaweco sport fountain pen with clip in the loop, and keep it all closed with a rivet band. It's perfect sized for the A6. Fabulous haul by the way!
I love the elephant cover! I have never seen this one before! Maybe it’s a Hobonichi website exclusive? I used the Hobonichi Cousin for the first time this year and there were a lot of things I liked about the Techo layout. However, there are things that I don’t, so I went with Sterling Ink this year for an A6 EDC and an A5 desktop (undated daily pages.) What it doesn’t have is changing grid colors/monthly colors, the red/dark grey for Sat/Sun, the quote at the bottom of the page, and generally much less visually “busy.” For my needs, I need it to have the reduced visual distractions (and I just don’t care about random quotes…they just took up real estate, were visually distracting (I had a TBI so visual distractions on a page make it harder to read) and I like my own quotes that I find and put in where I feel like it (former Bujo person, also. It worked wonderfully for years, but I needed some more structure already done for me, so I have the Hobonichi a try.) P.S. I love your glasses those are so fun! I think the stamps you got look like about the right size to fill up an “hour” of time in the weekly…they’re cute, regardless!

Oh my we are kindred spirits! I started out with card making, found fountain pens and have just recently fell down the Hobonichi Coffee Monster Co rabbit hole. I started playing around with various Hobonichi planners mid-way through the year and was hooked. Just received my new goodies to plan for 2025. I see others have posted about the loops on the planner covers. I learned this as well, some are for the full pen while others just the clip. The hobonichi website recommends to not use a cover on cover with this cover because it is thicker than their usual covers. I have seen comments about using a hairdyer on the COC to make it fit, not sure about that though.
The plastic cover on covers are made for the pen tabbed cover like you got this year. The previous botanical Tomitaro Makino covers are smaller and the cover on cover do not fit. Silly because it’s such a pretty cover and would want it to get dirty. The pen loops on the 5 year cover make no sense to me. But the clip on my TWSBI fits and pen rests nicely inside the cover. I also use a rivet band around it for extra pop of color and keeps pen secure.
RU-vid won’t let me upload a photo of it. But it’s just a little elastic band you can put around the planner. It’s on the Hobonichi site. Yoseka and jetpens have them too.
The pen loops on the 5 year cover are just to hold the clip, not the body of the pen (others have said this upthread, but I wasn't sure if you would see it since they commented after you).
Waffle Flower has a stamp line specifically for swatches. Maybe dies too, but I can’t remember. Swatch organization products would help tidy up your swatches. There’s also Jennifer McGuire’s system using square pieces of paper and coin pockets. I think ultimately you would want a system that is more flexible than a journal. A journal with swatches makes it harder to compare colors or match colors to paper. Tim Holtz uses tags and a cable ring for seemingly everything. I swatch on tags too, but I use Jane Davenport’s mermaid tail tag die because it has a die that cuts an opening in the tag that makes it easier to compare the colors in a way that helps me figure out the portions of color. Miraculously I liked the green ink best. I’m so much more into reds and pinks. I liked the clarity of the green one though and felt like the red and pink inks felt murky.

Man do I feel your pain on the August thing! I live at 8,000' in the Colorado mountains and every year at this time I ask myself if I can do winter one. more. year.!
