i feel like they put too many restrictions on post magicians souls cards bc they felt dumb when all the spyral gamers were tier 0 with it for a little while
I feel that isnt the case yet, since only 1 major wave of support came out after it (the rest are kinda sprinkled here and there), so we dont really have much to go off for now. For timaeus, it is restricted more from archaic design than pulling the brakes on DM support since it is technically usable in decks that have a mix of dragons and spellcasters like in branded, but held back by hinging on setting up spells in the gy because DM cant make up their mind on wanting spell/traps in gy or not. Illusion of chaos was designed to fill the monster searcher spot which was much needed. The rest are nostalgia bait references that for some reason still have battle phase centric effects (magikuriboh & knight of dragon magic) or haha-hehe-blow-up-effect-too-difficult-to-pull-off (master of chaos) Honestly would need to see more incoming support to see if this is true, but you never know if [Toy box + white woods] could one day make DM relevant again cos it needs to send a billion spells too.
Thank god we dont live in a timeline where something like DM is meta relevant lol. Duel Links made me despise DM and Blue Eyes so now I just laugh whenever the pilots of those decks complain about them being mad. Like I realistically should feel bad, but I am too petty and biased against those 2 decks to care lol
I swear the Battle Chronicle skill was a giant mistake for the game Only behind Eternal Bond that literally makes players play 3x Yubel, 3x Neos and a million staples to boot
When it comes to the big 3 original monsters blue-eyes is the favorite child dark magician is the 2nd and konami forgot they have a 3rd kid with red-eyes
I’ve been playing ONLY DM since 2016 so I’m glad to see someone covering the deck and you did a great job Despite having “multiple searches” the deck lacks….searches lol The back row can definitely feel cluttered Even if you full combo your end board is basically nothing And your entire game plan is basically just to summon Dragoon and hope it’s one negate is magically enough …well that or playing a stun variant (which in my opinion is the best way to play DM by far. The deck is so bad I don’t care if other variants are able to consistently poop out 2 dragoons in one turn, that just isn’t enough. Especially when 1 flood gate has a lot more stopping power)
Thanks for commenting about your perspective on the deck! I've always heard that the deck was bad in some way, shape, or form, but never got a solid concrete explanation of it besides vanilla = bad, or it just sucks in general. Glad you found my points valid to the discussion. Regarding the searchers part though, it was something I never really heard people talk about alot, and only found out about it from the video I shared near the end. During playtests I would just play with what I had and just hoped for the best. Maybe I've been too conditioned by bad ritual decks to just vomit out my hand and pray.
@@ASalomon69 DM players also don’t use a lot of cards that are considered good in the deck. Circle, Eternal Soul, Navigation, etc We literally only play Souls, Rod, the blue man, shitty dragons eyes but now as a monster, Servant, and of course dm and dms questionably aged girlfriend The only combo worth going for is Souls summon DM Blue man group to search the worst fusion effect in all of history dragon And then use the dragon and your dm to summon Dragoon Anything else on your deck usually just revolves around making this as consistent as possible Its also a little funny that Dragoon isn’t a hard once per turn so having a board of 2 dragoons is actually full combo Altho good luck having two cards in hand for that That’s also another thing you touch up on in your video and that’s how despite dragoon being a pretty good card. A lot of the time, on your path to summon it you end up with zero cards in hand making the entire point of summoning dragoon pointless
techincally, the rules in the very first incarnation of Yugioh in the OCG, there were no tribute rules, which means you could at the earliest point of yougainah; Summon Dark Magician and slap your opponent silly with it.
At this point I'd assume DM is purposefully designed to be perpetually a low casual tier deck. Bait nostalgic players back into the modern game with continuous new DM support, force them to play something else (and therefore buy a new deck) to actually win games in a competitive setting
Back when I still played I was playing with Speedroid, Dinomist and Gladiator Beasts. Got to Plat 3 I think. Tried to make a B.E.S. deck work but I am not a good deck builder. Stopped playing around the time Floowandereeze was making waves. Funnily enough I had idea in my head for a video like this but I would’ve used Gradius Gaiden music and effects instead of V.

I didnt know about that honestly and it would be nice to find out how the hell did that happen. Point taken though, but I try to consider more modern formats in my videos since they are more closer to the present and more relevant to the general player. End result, though, is me not talking about the colourful and impactful history of flips (such as not going to talk all about magician of faith looping spells or gravekeepers stalling with flip monsters for tribute setup).

I think if you add floodgates to any deck or archetype, it becomes good if not somewhat playable or decent. No matter the playability level of that archetype, Flip monsters are no exceptions, can we truly say that the Flip monsters were the reason that the deck did well? . On their own Flip monsters cannot do much, it doesn't matter if they have insane effects or mediacore ones. The time investment is just not worth it, and if you are gonna attach a floodgating effect to a Flip monster, does that even hold true to the legacy of Flip monsters? Or is it just summon limit on legs? It's like Equip cards in Yu-Gi-Oh, they could get the most game breaking effects with insane consistency from Konami in or outside of an archetype but still being brushed off due to how modern Yu-Gi-Oh can deal with Equip cards. Funny that you mentioned about the "legacy of Flip monsters" because my original scripting wanted to cover that lightly but scrapped it since it should not hold any bearing when designing them in the future, baring some retrains such as magician of sanctifaith to magician of faith where the theme is kept constant as to the past. I also chose to focus on the mechanic itself instead since that was the main issue holding back flip monsters like ritual monsters, whereas spirit monsters are the ones affected by their legacy the most IMO.
Ah one year old comments saying how broken drytron is, but today is not even rogue tier and us hard to even get diamond with it, im still playing it, got a godly hand even with ben10 at 1 made a herald with 7 negates, but still lost agaisnt tearlament, tear easily wasted my 7 negates and still made an insane board, holy jesus.
Man, great edition right there. This deserves a lot more views. I'd love to see you talk about Flip monsters, i mean, they have "Prediction Princess" so you can keep slaping Ritual summoning in the dark abyss of mediocrity from which will (sadly) never return
I think you're slightly off, it's not just dementia and masochism. It's because there's also a very small non 0% chance that when you play spirits you can cause your opponent immeasurable suffering. For example with shinobirds, non targeting bouncing their entire field to hand and then leaving Dwayne "Amano-Iwato" Johnson to hold the line. The 5 second pause after their draw step where you KNOW they're clicking on cards that can't be activated into surrender is all I need. I live for that pause.
Edit: Konami just announced a new Spirit monster that says fuck your board during the end phase. We can now normal summon Nikitama, tribute it for Sword Emperor, CL1 Emperor CL2 Nikitama (both mandatory) and nearly guarantee a ticking timebomb for your opponent. Further explanation for Spirit monsters that I did not include in exchange for the funnies: A lot of Spirit monsters are not useful at all. You should not consider using them at all. Aratama is not a combo starter by any means since you are severely limited with what you can summon in a dedicated Spirit deck. Nikitama + Aratama is basically your rank 4 combo from 2011 and is not powerful at all in 2022. However, you take what you given after all. Tribute summon ritual monsters are heavily cost inefficient for their effects. Their effects are good on paper, but are definitely too slow or take too much effort to pull off in 2022. The only notable Spirit monsters in 2022 are the pendulum monsters (as scales and are not even used for their effects) and the Shinobaron pair & Amano (for casual / rogue use) Spells/Traps that support Spirit monsters are not searchable by any Spirit monster. This makes them heavily unreliable and are also not worth using due to their lackluster effects.
