This project has been in progress for over 20 years, from concept to commissioning, leading to the retirement of most officials involved since its inception. However, the project remains incomplete to this day. The airport currently handles 290 weekly flights, with Delhi being the most connected city. Despite being designed to accommodate 200 flights and 15,000 passengers daily, it has not yet reached this capacity. It is uncertain how the airport will recover the ₹32.01 billion investment and when it will break even. Operating flights and generating revenue from liquor sales, parking fees, and advertising alone will not be sufficient. Even the airlines using the airport may not benefit significantly. There are few hangars and little space for MRO services. Additionally, it is not as environmentally friendly as the Kochi airport, having already destroyed a significant green cover without compensating for it. This situation creates a paradox in the dynamics of the aviation business. The primary beneficiaries are likely to be the real estate investors who have invested in the 200 acres of land around the airport. This may be the only positive outcome after the 40-year concession period, of which two years have passed. This raises the question of whether the project is worth it.
