What an absolute load of codswallop. That “racist/banta” comment you refer to is clearly regarding Brexit and the likely hood of all those who are against moving forward (those who are against the road closure) having voted for Brexit. I honestly hope you have passed this though your lawyer/solicitor prior to publishing as defamation can carry some heavy penalties.
Clive was a lovely guy... played at my wedding in the Sea Cadets Hall Cambridge in 1976... remember him from the good old ALMA Days when Jack McGuigan had it... happy days indeed. Sad loss ....
Looking forward to seeing this.. From a time I only knew Hammer horror and worzel gummidge.. This looks a very different strawberry fayre experience.. It was tiny. Bet the never had glossy brochures for sale. I had a strawberry fayre guide from 91.cost a pound. Think ozrics may been there.. Strange to think what it would evolve into by 90s then de-evolve into late 2018s.
Hi Mick, my parents bought Elsworth from your parents and were both still living there until October 2020 when my father died. My mother however is still there and will end her days there. I have enjoyed your reminescences and images and while the village has changed much over the past 60 years, the best bits like the Plantation, the Drift and the permanent meadows remain relatively unspoiled
benelyn and buttercup syrup shots. Plus an M.Brown, from the kitchen Special brew circa 1985. Then you have to draw Simon Sedgwick-Jell eating a falafel under the bridge of sighs. Hope you're well Mick.
Dont know how I missed this one! So sad to see how many of us playing in the reunion gigs are no longer around. Gone but not forgotten! Quick update: I forgot to say that several of us ARE still gigging in 2022. It`s addictive. 😁
Was 'Gentry Burlingtons' a national chain or just the one shop in Cambridge; it was a clothes shop if I'm not mistaken. I'd love to hear more about that stuff, old shops of Cambridge etc?
It was a local enterprise, a boutique. The owners started several businesses in Cambridge. I co-produced a booklet about 1960s Cambridge and you can download it free from I-spysydincambridge.com and hopefully find interesting. Thanks for your comments.
Mill Road is a High Street, the second one in Cambridge. Divided by people. Normal people living in unfit slums, and upper/middle class cargo bike riding snobs, living in working class themed terraced palaces.
Brilliant video mate. The boxer you referred to and if I remember correctly was Len Harvey, thus the name change of the pub to the Champion in the seventies. The couple that took it over and named it the Champion were a lovely couple called Peter & Linda. Linda was a page three model in the Sun. What great times I had in there.
