I used to be a die-hard tucker 😜 but I have relaxed now! I feel like you mean the cute denim jacket? It's from Levi's - the prairie trucker (I will link it in my shopmy in the description) It is soooo cute, I'm not sure if they do this colour any more but they do have a lighter wash and they pop up secondhand as well 🥰
I love how calm your voice and pace is in this video ❤ so many decluttering videos feel so hectic! I'm a fellow minimalist and love the calm of a capsule wardrobe
I think you hit the nail on the head - it can be hectic because too much stuff is generally overwhelming 🫠 I can't even watch marie kondo because I genuinely get overwhelmed by even other people's stuff 😅 haha
So cool… I can sit here and watch you instead of decluttering and organizing! Just when I thought spring was here it’s started raining! I don’t have enough room! I’ve yet to find the answer to organizing… to hang or not to hang that is the question. Love the music 💞
@@marionannmacredie omg 🤣🤣 I relate too much!! Procrastinating but it is SO satisfying to watch someone else do the work 😅 I am actually loving the rain here rn, so cosy and in my opinion very typical of changeable spring weather 🥰 I know what you mean about organising, I try to keep it to what feels natural and easiest for me in that moment... you can always change your mind later if it's not working out 😆😚 Me too - the one from the start and little snippets are by my partner Radram (his musical name at least) and the other longer one is from RU-vid music (linked in my description) 🥰😇 Thanks for being here to keep me company!
@@AlannaLightheart I find here in NZ the weather is so changeable that I base clothes around layers for all seasons. The problem then becomes fitting it all in my space. I need to cull my wardrobe 😃
I’m not a capsule wardrobe or minimalist, but have not much clothes. I swear by doing seasonal swaps. I always get so excited at the end of the season cause it’s like shopping and re discovered cloths you forgot.
Still at the beginning of the video, but I have what I would consider “3” capsules if you will. One is summer, one is winter, and one is transitional. The transitional stays in my closet year round and the other two rotate in. There are roughly 75 pieces total including coats and accessories.
Yeah that is perfection right there 😆 it's pretty much how mine is too on a slightly smaller scale - transitional seasons you for sure need a bit of warm a bit of cooler weather gear out all at the same time 🥰
@@AlannaLightheart yeah my weather is way harsher than yours (there can be as much as 150 degree difference between my high in summer versus my low in winter in Fahrenheit) so I need more layers and distinct winter verses summer clothes. Where we use to live I could get by on way fewer clothes, but I need minimum of 5 coats where I only had 2 prior.
@@angelamelum4304 oh my gosh yes - it's so important to have what you need and only you can really know what that will be for you 💗 winter sounds chilly where you are!!
I'm the same, get quite overwhelmed with too much stuff, too many choices etc. I'm working on my nervous system as well to be more calm even with more things around BUT I doubt I will ever have a giant wardrobe 😆🥰
When I see you pulling the waistline up, I can tell you bought the wrong size. Buying things because you saw on someone else or on some 'fashion/style' channel seems silly to begin with. IF you liked them, then go try them on. When you look in the mirror you will either say ' I like this' or 'Ew.' or be undecided. If it is either of the last two, you don't buy the item. I know right off I would have never even considered buying any of the things you have now rejected. I know they are not me. I do not buy 'outfits'. I buy things I know I like and will wear. One of the reasons I prefer skirts over dresses is just that - I can mix and match skirts and tops. Trends and designer labels are for fools. They exist to part you with your money. You dress for YOURSELF, not for anyone else.
You made some interesting points. Making decisions is made more simple when you have clarity of thought and purpose and it seems like you have a process that works for you and your values.
I love all your videos Alanna, you have such a calming voice and the content is great ❤ would you share your Pinterest? Just if you're comfortable with that of course, I'm just curious to see what inspires you. I don't do capsule wardrobe but I like to put away the things that are not in season like you did
Ooh, yes of course I can link my pinterest in the description now 🥰 rotating out of season items makes sense for so many, even just from a practical storage point of view. I love the feeling of having new options to wear for the new season without having to shop 😚
That was a very enjoyable video :) I'm also from New Zealand (Nelson) and it's nice to see some videos from people who are also going into spring/summer. What part of NZ are you in?
Welcome! I love finding others based in New Zealand, it feels like a ghost town on RU-vid finding anyone in the southern hemisphere at times 😆 I'm based up North! Love Nelson, I lived there as well 🥰
@@AlannaLightheart Yes I know what you mean! Everyone's gearing up to get all cosy and it's starting to get quite warm here. I've never lived up north but visited a few times, it's quite different from the south but lovely all the same :)
I tried a capsule wardrobe but got bored. It was useful though as it made me realise that I didn't have enough basics. It also made getting dressed much easier as there was less choice. Now I do a kind of capsule wardrobe. I put out of season pieces away. I choose a colour palette for the season and put other colours away. They're not too far away, though, and I can always get things back out if I am bored.
@@cathmackenzie74 there are so many lessons to be learned from the capsule wardrobe for sure - everything is a learning opportunity and information that you can take with you going forward! I love storing some things away as well - the transitional seasons end up with most stuff out because I need a little bot of warm and a little bit of cool weather pieces all at once 😆
Very inspiring video, thank you for that❤ I have more clothes but I try to really think which pieces I really love and need and what is only difficult for me to let go. Videos like yours help me to do that mindfully😊
@@hanab2450 you're so welcome! I love watching videos like this too to help keep my mind straight at times 😊 Usually I end up being pretty ruthless with my decluttering, probably because I'm still growing into my style and really learning what I ACTUALLY love 🥰
I have a very large wardrobe, but I do declutter often! I keep trying to downsize but It's not been successful as of yet. I am on a low buy this year which is helping at least! I do live in a 4 season location.
I wonder if wardrobes are kind of like hair length - there's like this perfect size that it's always trying to get back to? I hope this makes sense from my weird brain 😆 my hair is constantly trying to be long and grows quickly - my wardrobe is always shrinking and likes to stay small. Perhaps the homeostasis and baseline size of a wardrobe is different for everyone 🤔😅
I think you are absolutely right😊 I try to downsize for a long time but I just need more clothes than typical capsule wardrobe does because I need for example loungewear typical for each season (central Europe) to feel comfortable and I need enough while handling my job and kids and not thinking if my only jeans are dirty or not😊 Sorry for my english, I hope it is not too confusing😂
You are so, so welcome here! That is alwayysss the vibes that I'm going for. We have so many beautiful souls in this little growing community and it warms my heart every day 🥰🤗
I consider myself a capsule wardrobe person but not aesthetically, just practically I love storing away out of season pieces because then they feel new again next season! I did my switch over last weekend but Auckland is looking chilly this next week lol so i too have kept a couple knits and merinos out 😊. Really enjoying your channel 🎉
Yes, same here the weather is closing in for a bit! Which actually I don't mind a bit, makes it feel more like Spring than a premature Summer! 🌻 I know exactly what you mean about capsule wardrobe but not aesthetically 😆 I feel like we are all bored by the capsule wardrobe aesthetic at this point 🫠
I love that pink sweater on you! My wardrobe is also on the smaller size. I find it easier to get dressed when I don't have too many options. Really enjoyed this video.
It definitely stops me feeling too overwhelmed by choice and decisions. Especially for busy seasons of life it can be so helpful 🥰 thanks for stopping by!
You're lovely! I'm not sure I'm your target audience 😂 but I love your calm demeanor and voice, your easy sense of practical style and your ability to convey everything in a simple yet organized fashion.
@@AlannaLightheart I find if items are not practical, I just don't wear them. Even if I love them. Living in the UK, I have to be practical due to the weather. I'm originally from California, and this shift has been a tough one. I didn't have to consider inclement weather before, and I could wear any fabric without thought. Now everything has to be very considered or I'll pay the price by being cold, wet and uncomfortable.
@@alamedadanceparty the 2 climates are so, so different - practicality is the number one thing that will make you comfortable or miserable in your clothes!! I remember a lot of rainy Irish days 🥲🫶
Great video! Points 1 and 2 where true for me as well (luckily I didn't buy the items, but I really wanted to!) The thing is the white button shirt although it was pushed so hard, does not look good on everyone... and for the shorts I think it doesn't work because I consider them more casual so dressing them up doesn't make sense imo. For me the game changer was to understand my kibbe body type and colour season. Different people look good in different things and there isn't one fit-them-all item, it needs to be personalised.
@@mamis843 i really enjoyed learning about the kibbe system and also colour seasons, it was a new perspective for me to see it from almost a mathematical perspective or some sort of logic at least! Finding harmony with your features and then breaking the rules whenever you feel called to do so 🤗
Just subscribed today and It been binge watching your shows absolutely so over the moon that I found you what a breath of fresh air you are exa what I needed do thankful for you🥰
@@user-yd4yr5hr3s you're sooo sweet 🥰 everything i do on here is to foster community and help everyone feel uplifted even for a moment in their day. It means so much to hear you enjoy it, truly 💖
One practical aspect of living in rural Scotland is peat in the water. Like washing your clothes in a strong cup of tea 😅 no white clothes for me while I life here!
Chic for me is much more how but what. In the other hemisphere winter is coming so I can give an example with my very practical coat - middle gray nothing special wool coat what becomes really special when I match by color my tote bag with the scarf or put my butterfly brooch on my scarf (it's very practical also when it's windy). It makes me fill chic and I get a lot of compliments ☺. Sometimes chic is to put the cherry on top 😄
@@eliali6484 yes! How you style something can make it chic even when it is a practical piece! If you're getting compliments and feeling great then you know you've nailed it 🥰
I bought a wrap dress because I was influenced by some RU-vidrs that made them look incredibly comfy and chic. Unfortunately on me it just didn't hang correctly, and having had a mastectomy, I was afraid of being exposed (as a cancer survivor I am proud of my irradiated area, I just don't wish to display it). I am now far more aware of the dress shapes and necklines that make me feel confident.
I so often do the same thing! Especially as we all have beautiful and unique bodies and how they interact with clothes really needs to be experienced 🙂↕️ finding a neckline that works for you is a game changer 🥰
I can tell you different styles of wrap dress fit differently. You may want to try one with a different cut if you initially liked the idea of it. Try it on in the shop - if you look in the mirror and can't decide if you like it or not - it's a 'no'. Your first instincts are always the best. Don't ask a friend. Unless you have friend like me, friends will try and be polite and tell you what they think you want to hear. (I am that friend who will say 'Nope. doesn't look good on you.')
Hi Alanna, Just came across your channel in my feed and I love your content. I see you're based in NZ but weirdly I detect an Irish accent in your well paced delivery. Is it my imagination? Keep going with the channel btw. Excellent content so far.
Thank so much 🥰 I am Irish! Grew up in Australia for some of my childhood as well so it's a pretty soft accent (most people in my real life think I'm canadian or american at first 😆🫣)
Are the images you included from your own pinterest board, or did you search em out for this video? If they're from your own, could you link it! I saw so many cute outfits I'd love to draw inspiration from. Loved the video, always always do!
It's a mix of both! I linked my Soft Spring pinterest board which has a lot of them and similar saved onto there 💛 It's in the description box under the timestamps!
So much wisdom 👏 Funny, I recently reprocessed my style words and Practicality came first (then current & elegant) And it felt so good to allow me to put that first. I’m not settling for less but on the contrary I’m being more intentional, choosing rooming clothes (I left the corporate world a while ago), easy to wash, etc. I’m very content and I feel good, not bold nor smashing, but good 🤗
I just love it 🥰 and exactly -- you have current and elegant to also play with practicality! They make a beautiful mix and practicality is so grounding. Feeling content is one of the best feelings in my opinion , like you've 'arrived' 🤗
Hi Alanna, I love your channel and the messages you are sharing. I’ve have comfort in my wardrobe but have been working on my style to fill in some gaps. I know you don’t tend to share share where your pieces are from because it’s not the purpose of your videos but I spotted the black pumps you’re wearing at time stamp 5:05 is the style I’ve been looking for (higher vamp?) please would you mind sharing if it’s not from a local brand where you are. Many thanks!
Yes! These are the Everlane Day Glove! I have wanted them for years and just found them second hand recently! The sizing can be a bit tricky and they have just updated it as well to have 2 options for a narrow or wider foot (I sized up a whole size however the seller couldnt tell me if it was the narrow/wide/old/new version so that's probably not super helpful) -- hopefully you can try on and exchange if needs be, if you choose to buy them! 🥰 and thank you for being here! 💗
Thank you for mentioning rural, and in my case coastal, versus urban. I only really dress up for church choir or going into town, because most of my clothes need to withstand mud, sand, cat and dog hair and claws… But I still like working with my favourite colours for basics and for scarves.
Thank you! I know, I totally catch myself.bwing influenced by even jist scrolling on a certain brands website imagining myself in a different lifestyle 😆 I am establishing a daily gratitude practice to combat it 🥰
I think chíc and comfort/practicallity can go hand in hand. Maybe the dress has a really loose and light fabric and cut, but it's made from silk or in some really lush jewel tone.
Hi Alanna, lovely to see you in this natural look instead of the strong orange red lip you had in some of the previous videos. I'm only mentioning it because it fits so well within the theme of your channel - I think this subtle natural look makes you look so beautifully rosy and brings out the colour of your eyes! I felt like the strong lip must have been out of your colour season because it just brought out a lot of redness and didn't look harmonious. What do you think? I absolutely don't mean to be harsh here, just very interested in the topic of finding the colours and clothes that bring out our essence and beauty :)
Hi, thank you! I definitely feel more like myself in a softer lip but I love to push my comfort zone these days 🤗 sometimes being on camera can wash me out so I'm still just playing and having fun. Colour theory is SO fascinating, I feel like I fall somewhere between a soft summer and a soft autumn
I'm wanting to find "basics" that are slightly different than the norm. Like instead of a plain tshirt for everyday, a ribbed tshirt. The in between basic and exaggerated can be really hard to find. I've been looking for embroidered cardigans (sweet but not gramma style). Can't find many!
