Welcome to our Channel. We are Patrick and Eileen. In 2018 we decided to quit the rat race by giving up our jobs and selling our home to continuously cruise the inland waterways of the UK in a 57 foot narrowboat called DunWorkin.
This is a record of our journey, Our Narrowboat Quest to explore the navigable waterways of England and Wales, to continuously cruise throughout the year. Join us as we experience all seasons, the wonders of our beautiful countryside, towns, villages and cities and even our industrial heritage, nowadays an ironic contrast to its raison d'être.
We love creating our videos and sharing them on RU-vid, please feel free to share with your friends and family if you think they may be interested in our journey.

Great video thanks. Love learning about the history and seeing where the canals used to run. Thankyou and all the best. Kerry and Colin NB Time to Pootle x
So sad to see disused canals sadly can see even more with crt not spending and just wanting other charitys to fund and maintain for them great idea for mr parry ceo of crt whom paid him self nearly 300k last year a total crook
Hello from the USA. Another great video showing little known UK history. I'm sure you have heard about the attempt on former president, Donald Trump's life. In the video there is a man, wearing a black T shirt and a floppy green hat, sitting directly behind Trump.. That man surprisingly looks a lot like Pat. When at first glance I thought for a second, what's Pat doing in Pennsylvania? It is said that everyone has a look-a-like somewhere in the world. For Pat it sure could be this man. He came to no harm, and Trump wants to meet him.
For damp areas you can get tubular heaters that start from (1 ft long to 8ft long) with the wattage being 60watts per foot), you wouldn't need a large heater for under your bed for instance as you only need warm air spread out.
@@whiskymacable We do have an inverter but any type of heater will put a drain on the batteries and as the dampness under the bed isn’t too bad as we already have several condensation absorbers insitu it probably isn’t worth the extra power, as we are off grid all year round. We were considering small computer fans which will circulate the air and have less consumption.
You sound just like Colin re labelling everything!! We seem to be breading boxes with labels lol😂 lots of love to you both. Kerry and Colun. NB Time to Pootle x
Webasto and Eberspacher really need to be run for an hour every month to keep them running. As for condensation moisture traps and leaving cupboards open and the bed lifted when leaving the boat Blisworth tunnel was used as a trail for the channel tunnel. That’s what the concrete rings in the middle are.
Hi Colin, when we were control board we didn’t have any problems with the Webasto, it wasn’t till we left it that problems occurred so i totally get that! Yep, we do all that to combat condensation, on the whole it appears under control. With regards to Blisworth that’s great information, thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Hi guys, great vlog. Re condensation-we’ve put vents in all our cupboard doors and any storage areas which helps a lot plus the moisture traps around the boat. That seems to do it for us! Pat- I feel your pain and frustration with finding things. You’d think it was easier with a smaller area but no. Considering were not live aboards we have so much toot on the boat, this weekend I’ve had a clear out and yes, I’ve found things I couldn’t before so end up buying again! Now I have more storage containers. All labelled up on what’s in them and a written plans of what’s where! Maintenance! Yep… frustrated cos we’re not there long enough to do anything… and where we do have a week off work you want to enjoy the boat and not be working on it! lol.
Hi Caz, we have done the same re venting in cupboards and storage areas. With regards to finding things you’ve forgotten you had ( always happening to us! ) we need another clear out soon! Still working our way through the maintenance list!🤣🤣. Know what you mean about enjoying the boat while you’re there rather than do jobs. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I think the boat builders incorrectly push the flexi solar panels onto unsuspecting new owners due to ease of fitting and cosmetic look. Traditional are always best. Run the Webasto on full blast at least once every month.
We went for the flexible ones initially because you can walk on them and thought it would be easier to navigate the roof when required. However in reality as there is two of us we don’t actually use the roof to walk on so now it’s not such an issue! With regards to the Webasto as live aboard it was used fairly regularly, it went wrong when we stopped using it! So agree with that! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Lovely video. We love that area - it is very special to us. Stoke Bruerne was the FIRST place my husband took me when I first came to the UK - right off the plane! Since then we get back even if just to walk the locks just about every time we come to the UK. It was amazing when we actually did the tunnel and the locks in a boat! Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks JC, glad you enjoyed it. We loved Stoke Bruerne too, it’s such a special place. It’s a shame we didn’t get the chance to meet up while you were here. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Its so lovely to see you both again and you have made us laugh with regard to where things are, I know we have our BBQ tools but we have still got to find them.
In some respect, living on your boat is like living in a small cabin out in some wild place. You have to minimize what you have. One way to do this is to determine if an item(s) are essential or not. If not, can we do without it or do we actually use the thing more than ,say twice a year. One person has said, if it is not an essential item, then it should have more than one use, even more than three. Now I know that that is not easy, so to start, figure out some sort of storage system (I'm sure you have), but keep a record of where it's stored (IE wood screws stored in box A in storage space 3) Some time, on your travels, check out those who are vagabonds, (perpetual travelers) they always have very little less used stuff. Great video, as always.
Thanks Robert😊. We do try to do this but sometimes a little difficult if there is sentimental value there. 🤷♀️. Definitely agree about dual or more usage! Maybe we’ll get round to making that elusive list one day🤣. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
🤔 Condensation problems 🤔 Just off the top of my head..........Cat Litter! Maybe in a tray in damp storage spaces. Or put into small ventilated paper bags .
Thanks Patrick, we do use condensation absorption tablets which tend to help. We change them about 3 times a year. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Hello. I just started watching your vlogs after you were featured recently on Rhapsody in Blue and recommended. You must be very experienced by now, are you still enjoying it? Have a lovely coming weekend! Thank you. Howard
Welcome aboard Howard😊. Hope you enjoy catching up with our journey and notice the difference in quality as the videos progress. We have just returned to vlogging and cruising after an 18 month break and loving being back on our boat. Thank you for asking. Best wishes Eileen and Pat. 😊
What an interesting video thankyou. Brilliant to learn about Hillmorton, i wondered what the metal gates left in the grass was all about, what a shame some red tape has stopped this happening. Also didnt know re rhe orchids, willl have a look out for those when we go by soon. Thankyou as always. Kerry and Colin. NB Time to Pootle
Yes it was a great shame, the group responsible for the information board gave CRT everything they requested then at the last minute they came up with an excuse not to go ahead! The wild orchids were lovely, watch out for them!
Great video. We are still st Brinklow and its a fab marina, but a mare when its windy! Loved the tour of the old canal, we must go and moor in newbold instead of chuggjng onto Hillmorton! Will defo go and take a look sometime. Which map/app did you use that you could see the dotted line where it went along with your location please? Kerry and colin - NB time to pootle x
Hi Kerry, most marinas are a bit windy but Brinklow is particularly so! Definitely worth a stop at Newbold, if you look closely there are a couple of nice walks. We used Open Canal Map to see where the loops are. Hope you manage to get out cruising soon, course you can go the other way now!! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
We are at Newbold! Did the wall through the church grounds and saw the tunnel etc.. thankyou so much, would not have done that without having seen your video. (Also had chips from Newbold chippy - yummy!), sat on the stern with the sun going down - perfect. Thanks again x
Me neither Kerry, I’m sure there must be a proper way to dispose of bulky items if you haven’t got transport. I believe the CRT have a bulky waste disposal service, not sure if EA have something similar! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
What a really interesting piece of info about the locks. Amazing how clever those men were long ago with their inventions and workmanship. Thank you for another lovely cruise and chat . Most enjoyable.
@@ournarrowboatquest4894 BTW I heard that they have applied for a grant to get one of the lock water switching gears back to working order. Apparently, the water storage tanks are sill underground.
Nice vlog and interesting story about the water transfer between parallel locks. Ingenious! Pat doesn't sound too happy about his cake deprivation ordeal. I know how he feels. We all reach that time of life when the knees buckle but the belt won't!
Haven’t been to Swarkestone Lock in years (my grandad founded the Swarkestone Boat Club and was a huge campaigner for the Derby canal being reopened) it was so lovely to see you go through and to recognise parts of the cut 😍
Thank you for continuing canal cruising this is what I like most and also to learn some history of the area. Very interesting, happy cruising. Peter Mac Donald, Penang, Malaysia
That was a bit of a fight at the beginning, Pat, well done, that man! Two lovely old pubs at the end, it is lovely to see a bit of old England via your vlogs!
