@eo1scwmwf I've never used total boat. I've seen quite a few people use it. How does it last long term with the epoxy turning yellow? I make a lot of custom flags with epoxy. That's always a concern.
Everyone I’ve ever heard said that total boat is top quality. It is actual nautical finish and can handle the direct sun. I use the instant UV cure epoxy for smaller items. I have made one project with total boat deep pour, but I unfortunately had a heavy hand and destroyed it. So I don’t have a personal experience to speak of for the regular epoxy.
@JoshD4PREZ thank you. I appreciate that. Wood Turning can get a little saturated at times. I want to try out different ideas in the future. Thanks again for the comment.
Not a fan of the color choices but that is purely preference based. I'm sure it works well for your taste or as a piece among others. I do like the shape you gave it. Either way, it is well done. Good work.
Use orange striper which smells like oranges. Put Saran Wrap over it Let it sit for an hour check and see if the finish is lifting and most of it will come off with the saran wrap. Clean up the remainder the same way.
@Coolll_Personnn to be honest, I'm not sure. It was a Table built by my wife's father that passed away several years ago. He had it several years before giving it to my wife. I know it's got some age to it.
@@redtimberstudios I had a bunch of fairly plain poplar at one time that really didn’t have much going for it as far as unique grain pattern or color. I bought some wood dye packs and made some fairy cool (my opinion lol) tigers eye bowls with it. I add color quite a bit. Even if it’s a bronze or gold band. Keep doing what you’re doing man. You can’t be wrong when you’re expressing your love into your art.
I can go somewhat fast with anything 1 1/2 or less. It's a struggle with larger bits. I think I need to stair step them up about 1/4 in size for a smoother result. Unfortunately I need to buy more. 😩
I think they sell wood bluing agents which would look more natural or something similar. It should cling here but I'm thinking of longevity and keeping it food safe for other crafts. Keep building! 🎉
Nice work man. I like the color add. I made a few of these at one time. I made them a little taller to be utensile holders. On the raised bands, I used a piece of pine to burn them a little to look like metal. Your idea has given me a few new ideas!
Looks great! I've found on burned bowls that putting down a couple of layers of hardwood floor sanding sealer (sand to 320 between coats) really evens out the shine on semi-gloss and gloss finishes. OB Shine Juice is too thin so I go with sanding sealer meant for floors. Just be careful no to coat too many times, it'll turn into this translucent milky color.
@ImaWanaBeGnsTa I've had to learn some hard lessons in my journey. I've definitely split projects in half. My newer projects I've been shaping the outside 1st. Seems to work out better that way.
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. 🙏. I'll look up a few different towers for inspiration to see what I can come up with. Thanks again. Have a great day.
@@michiganconstructiongroup6379 I'm sorry. You can go to my channel and find the longer video. This is just a short of that original video. The video is a little over 7 minutes long.
I could. I haven't had this lathe a year. I don't want to keep putting money into something that can't handle the workload. I'd rather buy something with a little more power.
Aw man, that sucks. I don't have a lathe yet, but I've been considering the HFT bench top. It's in the same realm of budget and power, with solid reviews. Seems like the price to performance is good.
@@redtimberstudios HFT = Harbor Freight. They also have their newer Bauer variable speed 1hp midi lathe for $599. If you're familiar with Harbor Freight, you'll always be able to find a solid coupon, too. Good luck with whatever you choose!
How do you keep the wood from cracking while drying? Every time i try to dry limbs this small, they always develop cracks. I have painted, wood sealed, resin coated and even wax coated the ends and still get cracks.
It's definitely hard to avoid cracks. Here lately, I just use wood glue to fill the cracks and sand it back. If I have a lot of time in a project, I'd rather patch it up versus throw it away as long as it looks good. Realistically, I should turn each project 2x. Do a rough turn. Give it a day or two to let the moisture come out and then finish turn the rest. I'm super impatient and rush through them.
Also I didn't turn this in one setting. I rounded it off. Spent about 5 days, putting it in the microwave for a couple minutes each day to get the moisture out. I use a moisture tester to test the moisture so I know when it's dry.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. They aren't too complicated to make. There's multiple different ways to turn them based on the different style of chucks. With these turns I just make sure my chisels are sharp and I take my time sanding and water pop. You can make this same glass fairly quick. Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll help you out as much as possible. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated 🙏.
I'm working on a website to sell products on. It's almost ready to go. I wasn't sure if I was going to list these types of items. I mainly focus on custom flags and furniture, but it's all about what people want. I can start listing these types of products. I'll let everyone know when the site is up and running. Thanks for the support. Much appreciated 🙏
