On this channel you will find info about specific live sound setups, audio engineering techniques for FOH, monitor mixing, IEMs and live broadcast.
I will also be outlining my use of Allen & Heath consoles, running through specifics to the SQ and D-Live platforms.
I will talk about audio transport protocols such as Dante, and how they can be used to implement the use of Universal Audio UAD, Neural DSP, Soundtoys, McDSP and Waves plugins - using the software-based plugin host LiveProfessor.
I'll also delve into the uses of snapshots and cues - including MIDI control, and show automation including the use of the SMPTE and MTC timecode formats.

I love chatting about this stuff, so please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Sorry if this is a boring question: When you recall the scene to flip your soft keys from Mons to FX, is it only the soft key changes that get recalled on that scene? everything else stays as is?
I would assume it's not necessarily a scene change that's happening on the console, but rather a programmed action through the dlive's midi-functionality. In that case that midi change could be "safed" and would therefore not be impacted by regular dlive scene changes :)
Dylan have you ever tried Keyboard Maestro? I use it heavily to automate a ton of repetitive tasks with minimal to zero user interaction. Cool software. Also I didn’t realize Better Touch Tool had come so far. I’ll have to look at it again.
So many nuggets of into missing from this video… that app is called Synergy. It’s installed on both machines and connects over the network. The mouse swipes between the two computers, and the keyboard is active on whichever the mouse cursor is currently on 🤓
thank you for the video. Great content...keep them coming....i am getting ready to upgrade to dLive....How many inputs are you bringing into the console? I'm very interesteed in your streamdeck setup to the dLive......mainly, for starters, how you setup and programmed the the soft keys to make more. That is very useful.
Depends on the artist… usually somewhere between 30-60 input channels (including talk mics and utility channels) I’m using the Streamdeck to fire a scene which will recall a different set of soft keys. I also use it with the IP8 fader wing to recall different bands etc - same process. The command fires a scene in the D-Live to recall ‘something’
I don’t know the band for which you’re mixing, and that’s not really my thing, but it obviously allows for a lot of creativity. It can’t be that easy to make a coherent mix with the clips I heard, but you are doing it well. I love watching people do great work regardless of the style.
Hello everyone, I use the Focusrite RedNet PCIeNX card and a Mac Mini to use audio plugins with LiveProfessor in my Dante network. I also use an Allen & Heath Avantis with a Dante card. Sending audio from the Mac Mini (RedNet PCIeNX card) to the console is no problem. But when I send the signal from the console to the Mac Mini and back to the console I always get feedback on the audio. I suspect that the audio settings on the Mac Mini are not correct. Everything works fine with Windows. Can anyone help me here? Thank you very much. Best regards Adrian
Well... I tried to make it work this morning. DAW via Dante, no problem. MIDI... no joy. I can see the AH MIDI receiving midi data (if I move a fader), but not transmitting.
first of all thank you for such a deep dive into this, was absolutely insightful! I just wonder if it's possible to send>Rtrn via USB slot (instead of dante) and use logic X as processor host? Cheer's dylan, definitely subscribing to you!
Looks nice, but what’s your total round trip routing and are you sending every channel into the love profession, as there’s no delay automatic delay compensation on the inserts at the sq series. As far as I know ✌🏼
@@dylanmaudioexactly! Your mind is the limit with Reaper. I've been having so much fun with the CSI 3.0 extension and customizing how my X Touch integrates with custom actions
Absolutely love this kind of content - I just play drums but have always been very fascinated with the stuff you guys do and the way you all implement tech, which I why I break Danny Olesh' balls so much haha - Great stuff mate
Can I ask you a question that I don't understand? In the video you show us the structure of subgroups and masters, do you have the console configured as groups to groups? When you tell us that you have a Band Master, one for vocals and one for tracks, what do you mean? Greetings and thanks for these videos!
Hello, Dylan! I'm trying to do the same with Reaper and an A&H Avantis, could you share your Reaper project or make a specific video? Thank you so much!
@@dressink you just have to think outside of the box a little bit - or even like an analog signal flow mentality! Plug the output of a group into an input channel, then route that input channel into a group again :) Be aware though, this will add a small amount of latency (as it does for other consoles that DO allow bus-to-bus routing such as Digico)
@@phantomkik yeah cool! Maybe I can do a video to explain the methods I ended up with. I’m still learning but Reaper is very useful given all the custom commands you can make.
