Am slowly upgrading all my kit, new mat on the way, finally got some half decent tweezers, proper screwdrivers next 🙌 what’s your opinion on the ifixit kits? See a lot of RU-vidrs using them, but have also heard of Wera being a quality brand.
Bro broke every single rule I’ve learned about working with electronics and somehow he didn’t fuck up the psp. Makes me less nervous about starting to do something like this myself lmao
Hello my friend iam glad you took my advice and tidy-up your work desk looks much now do you do this full time or just part-time love watching your video's. Myself iam a mechanical engineer so i love the challenge of fixing things and solving problems good job on ds job lot and keep the video's coming they are very enjoyable to watch.
It’s sooooo much easier to work on being tidy 🙌🙌 New mat will appear in a few videos time, it’s arrived but I’m trying to build a little buffer of releases, should I have some weeks where I can’t do one. Nope, this is something I just enjoy doing. I’m a little too cavalier in my approach to do this on other peoples equipment 😂
I don’t understand how easily the top plate came off for you. I’ve been prying at it and pushing as hard as I can and it won’t come out. All of the screws are removed I don’t get it
I guess its time to buy a second Mega Drive 1 with problems haha I did the same with the 2x master system 2 systems the audio chip was defective on one
it was smooth sailing till the ribbon cable connector gray tab snapped off. I only moved the mother board a bit and it broke lol. It turned out to be the connector for the touch screen digitizer. I don't want to replace the entire mother board over this one connector. I wonder if there's any way to provide enough tension with the ribbon cable and connector to get it to work again. Like the ribbon cable just needs to make enough contact with connector without using the gray tab to push it down
The touch one IS replaceable, if you apply heat underneath, it's just about doable, the screen ones I've never had any luck with though as they double up one on each side, so I couldn't heat underneath :(
Thanks for making this video. It helped me when trying to fix my old gameboy. When I opened it up to check the button contacts, they were really grimy. More grimy than yours. That alcohol you recommended really did the job. Now my old gameboy works better. Thanks 👍👍
If you are brave enough to crack open the LCD itself, I thin you'll possibly find one of the backlights has failed. This is probably old enough to be using cold cathode tubes rather than LCDs. Might be fairly cheap to find a replacement one of those maybe?
@@thebaldconvict I’d had this one open many moons ago, before RU-vid. It certainly does have a fluorescent tube inside, unfortunately it goes round the entirety of the lcd and I could never find a replacement 😮💨
@@1up_Gaming Ah that's a shame, I hate it when things are pretty much for the tip just because of a part :( Anyway, nice video as always, thank you :)
I liked the circular circuit board, wasn't expecting that. Wow, the asking prices of these are crazy. I'll have to keep an eye on the local seller pages for one.
It's insane, hence why that faulty one has been sat in my drawer for a good 3/4 years, waiting for one like this to get it going or doing a mod like @MyMateVince did on the one I sent him a while back, turns out it helped my work buddy's brother out, so it's all good. Have picked up an off brand screen and PSOne that has no display, so that will be up eventually, trying to make sure there is at least one video per week now :)
thanks for this video! what screwdriver are you using to remove the black screws in the second backplate? (0:58) i'm having a lot of trouble with the screws :(
I just got a Pokemon fire red cartridge returned to me that didn't work. Looks like I'll have to do the same thing you did in this video. Now to go pick up a GBA to test it with.
