Hi Kenneth! I'd love to help, but the cutter's lifespan is dependent on various factors. Replacing the cutter is extremely simple and can be done yourself in a matter of seconds. Yes the ABIS 3.0 tools will work on steel as well. To be honest I believe 95% of all applications are done on steel instead of on aluminum. We believe companies who are working with aluminum still have to discover the advantages of the ABIS solutions in combination with our specific 'ALU' cutters. These are 'ALU' cutters have more space between the cutting edges and a specific coating to get the optimal result on aluminum sheets and bars
