Elliott always gives of that vibe like he’s somewhere completely else thinking about making more amazing music … what a magically gifted , sweet and humble person he was. We love you man
Elliot was not pop. Pop isn't a sound. It means popular music. He plays in a "folk" style when just by himself playing acoustic. These labels of types of music...Not a fan. I get it, if it refers to an era, bu I justI find them useless. What does it matter what genre? Folk just means people and never a piece of music has or will appeal to every person or relate to them. It's music. It's emotion expressed in a way that sometimes can't be explain in just words. Lyrics, melody, dynamics... It creates its own feeling in you. A feeling something non-musical couldn't copy or have a totally different way of relating to someone and their songs. Grew up listening to guys like Norman Blake and Tony Rice because my dad had a little band of bluegrass players that I would watch play as a kid. He was the guitar/flatpicker. He also plays classic rock. Jim Croce. James Tayler. After I showed him Radiohead he covered songs of theirs on just his old Martin guitar, haha. Almost 40 year old guitar that sounds amazing. He loves Elliott Smith and we're putting together a cover. He is in his 70s. I just don't know what song to try to cover. With two acoustics and two singers, harmonies. I personally am leaning towards St. Ides Heaven because I think it would be more challenging than his more well known ones. Also think Somebody That I Used to know. Slowed down a little. Also really love Pictures of Me. Since it isn't just an acoustic song, that could be fun to work with. I dunno, what would you guys enjoy to hear covered? And for context, hear is a recent video of my dad and his two friends covering some older 70 era songs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x1E0lsl1XYw.html I also was trained in classical violin since I was 3. What do they all have in common? Transcendence from just talking. A different way of communicating besides with words or pen. This is classical choral, almost 400 years old, but saying it's the most beautiful piece of music ever, still doesn't do it justice. Religion aside. This piece lifts your soul up to a higher plane. It's one of the performances where you don't clap at the end and just sit there returning to the place it took you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IX1zicNRLmY.html And on a side note, the architecture in this video...Just wow.
"Yeah ADHD can be a crippling disorder for many children and adults because it often interferes with one’s ability to fit into society’s structural expectations, like Ferdinand, and people with ADHD are twice as likely to develop drug dependencies and five times more likely to attempt suicide." ..."That's awesome!"
Elliott was so much more than a musician. He was an angel on earth. An angel who took on sadness to make others feel better. And i dont even believe in that stuff. Elliott if you can hear me thankyou. Sometimes you made us feel better, and sometimes you even made us feel better about being sad. Your words narrated the story of the battle between my heart and mind. (If you love him you know what i mean.) And also thankyou for composing some of the most interesting chord progressions ive ever heard and giving me a thirst for unconventional music at a young age and inspiring me to play the guitar. There are so many things i could say...😢❤
Elliot Smith prophesied my daughter clementine the last thing we did b4 they took her away was make snow angels... me getting sober fond farewell. He even ended the worst relationship I was ever in when a wannabe Elliot Smith who I used to freak out on 4 constantly butchering his songs knocked up my girl.. 😅 I owe him so much God bless you Elliot
Miss misery had already been written before Elliott even knew about Good Will Hunting, but of course he couldnt reveal that because it's supposed to be made for the movie, otherwise it can't be nominated for an Oscar.
I love that story of the bull. The bull ends up being forced to go fight even though he doesn't want to. I think of Elliott Smith very similarly to that of the bull. They are both very tender souls... maybe that's why he got the tattoo?
